Russian political party Party of Growth has recently announced the launch of a new Blockchain-based system, called "People of Growth", and their own cryptocurrency, called “Upcoin”. For the first time, Blockchain technology becomes the organizational basis for a political party.

The Party of Growth is now preparing its candidates for the municipal elections in Moscow this year. Candidates from the party will also receive a loan in Upcoins that they can use for training on the specialized courses.

What do you think about using cryptocurrencies in politics?
Of course, they making cryptourrency to fund their political motives.

I don't think the currency can train politicians. That's who you're talking about, right? Candidates for elections would be politicians. But cryptocurrency can serve as a closed financial system to incentivize people for all sorts of reason. Currency, once it is trusted to have value, can motivate people to do all sorts of things. I like to see it being used.

Agree..unless this blockchain is purely for record keeping, and the tokens don't have value, this is a poor idea. These markets are too small, too easy to swing. That would be absolutely dangerous if it influenced the outcome of a vote..

Considering this is just for one party, I suppose it's really just for funding candidates and keeping track who gets how much funds. I don't think this will expand to the point where it will be usable outside party use nor do I think they would want that.

I don't know how to react to this news. For one thing having them all in a blockchain might make it easier to investigate them for stuff like illegal contribution. This could increase familiarity with bitcoin in Russia once they understand the concept from this but on the other this could lead to them probably just making their own coin.
