As I understand it, ecdsa.net also works to support UASF on Electrum (just in terms of selecting a server that is supporting BIP148).

The basis for this claim is a post from Electrum twitter at:

I'm not sure how easy it will be for your Electrum wallet to get connected to this so it may depend on the situation, traffic, etc.

How important is it for Electrum users to forcefully select a UASF or non-UASF server versus using a randomly selected server? I suppose this really only comes into play on August 1st depending on what happens, right?

nothing really. as an SPV wallet user you don't make any difference. if you choose a server that is supporting something you just decrease the traffic other servers get and increase the traffic on the new ones you chose.

specially when these servers don't usually announce what they are running or signalling or whatever, that can cause a larger pressure on the couple of servers that do announce it.

I dont get it,if i will hodl some bitcoins before everythins will start to happen about segwits and forks on my 2.8.3 Electrum,will I get somehow both new forks of BTC?

As long as you are holding your private keys, you have nothing to be worried about. I'm not entirely sure but I believe you should run a full node in order to have bitcoins in both chain (If there is a chain split) and that could be profitable If done right, wait someone to confirm this information though.

I don't think you need to run a full node to spend the same coins on twice on the two chains of a fork. Nevertheless, it appears you will have to jump through some hoops to do it using electrum. The dev wrote a guide explaining the procedure in electrum. The guide was for earlier worries about a different fork that never happened. However, it should also apply to any future fork.

Thx alot!Im planning to keep some BTC amount on electrum during the fork.
But does that mean electrum isnt the best choice for holding coins during UASF UAHF times?

Any wallet that gives you control of your private keys is a good choice during a fork. Electrum is as good as any other wallet, especially considering that tutorial the dev made. Just use that tutorial if there's a fork.

If you don't move your coins in your Electrum Wallet come August 1st they will be spendable on either chain (if there is a fork). However, Electrum won't split them automatically, you will have to follow the instructions on the page I linked to if you want to split them.

I state that I run BU on my server: icarus.tetradrachm.net. I would like to generalize on the question of the benefits of knowing which server you connect to. Originally, I switched. to Electrum when I read that Jaxx discouraged sending mining payments to their wallet addresses. This lead me to suspect that my Jaxx wallet would trust a central server.  Since I ran a full node in any case, I decided to run electrum-server beside it, so that I could connect to my trusted full node. However, it sounds as though since electrum uses SPV which eliminates the profitability of a sybil attack, I could use auto-connect with little risk.  Also, by using electrum in contrast to Jaxx, Mycelium, et. al.  I connect to a full node in a more decentralized manner.

Aren't they simulating hardfork detection though? and this feature should be available on 2.9.0 which should get released in the upcoming days.

I think that all we have to worry about right now is get our coins in a wallet that give us  the control over our private keys . When/If split happen I believe that  some good   step by step guides on how to handle the split will be posted all over the web .

The version 2.9 release notes say it will have automatic fork detection, but I don't know exactly when installers will be released. There's only two weeks to go before August 1, and unexpected bugs could delay the release schedule.
