it is best you ask in mining boards:
bitcoin (antminer related) https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=14.0
altcoins (GPU mining related) https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=160.0

first thing you need to calculate is your electricity cost. that will eat through your profit so fast. most of these videos that i have seen don't talk about it much specially about how you can calculate how much electricity will be used by a 6 GPU mining rig for example!

my plan is to buy a bunch of Graphic cards and build a rig with them (you can find more about it in the altcoin mining boards too). but am not yet sure about the electricity cost.

my preference is mining altcoins but there is also the issue with their highly volatile price which can mean a huge profit one day and lots of loss the other.

it's too long, and not profitable. i think you go buy a good miner like a baikal miner or i3 + ram 4 + mobo + rx 470 x 4 is profitable or you can find cloudmining legits.

Instead of buying a pc you could buy graphics cards and build a mining rig with it. You should have mentioned how much money you have so that we could have given you a better advice. Anyways, you could buy some graphics cards and build a rig with it. Select a profitable coin to mine by calculating the cost and profit. Set the target so that you could buy antminer s7 with it. Collect the money until you can buy antminer s7 and then sell the graphics card as your profit. Wink

what is your target actually ?
if you are trying to mine Bitcoin,i think it would be useless for you to do it.
before talk about the profit,do you ever make some calculation about your expenses when running it 24 hours/day ?
plus what will happen if your hardware destroyed in the process ?
other than that you should know right about the difficulty that will increase everyday or everytime ?
it's very easy in the theory but when you try to implement it,
you will understand that it will not bring you any profit but instead you will get rekt because of it.
a simple logic,
if we can mine Bitcoin using our PC,why would we need to buy that mining hardware ?
i believe most of them have a PC with that kind of spesification.

Math Calculation :
$50/Month,let says it'll be your netto.
and you need to buy it at $1000 which is :
$1000:$50 = 20 Months.
that was 2 years,right ?
and our difficulty right now is : 1,364,422,081,125
what will happen if the difficulty increasing 50% next year ?
do not you think your earning will be decreased too ?
in reality you will get nothing from it.

Seems fine plan buddy. Instead you have only one card in your computer you can buy the 6 cards and connected that with the PCI riser which can connects upto 6 cards. That will give the better income which is 5 times more than you expected. If you mine the altcoin with the 6 cards means you can able to yield the more money. Please check about it go with that.

Its quiet expensive but it might give you brighter idea, Antminer S9, Advertised capacity 13.5 Th/s. Power efficiency 0.1J/GH . Aproximately BTC earned per month 0.3603, Make a wiser decision:)

if you think that's good I support, just buy pc i7 if you already understand how to get $ 50 a month. pc i7 is very good for the bitcoin mined place because the speed is very fast.
Thinking off that I7 processor isn't really necessary for GPU mining which you would really only need powerful gpu that would really able to mine some alts. Turns out that profitability would really depend on the electricity cost on your country and if I were you I would go for altcoin mining since you can able to choose up altcoins which do have lower difficulty on mining so that you would able to see if it would profitable for you or not. There are lots of videos on how to set up your own gpu mining rig.

You'd need to first shell off over a thousand dollars already with your i7 and 1080, and that's assuming you'll get them secondhand. Also, mining other altcoins with 1080 is viable, though you need to take into consideration your operation costs than only thinking about profit. You're better off saving straight up for an S7 or S9 rather than buy a unit that costs almost the same but underperforms in terms of whatever you throw at it.

I think that mining in PC even with Graphic cards installed would not be a profitable one. When you calculate your profits against your electricity charges, you would be getting only peanuts. Also, mining in PC might damage your PC's motherboard.

It would be better for you to invest properly and buy an ASIC miner and start mining. But before that, check the electricity charges in your country.

That's right. Even a single GPU running for a whole month will cost you $10+. You'll buy a $1000 PC and have it running all day mining and buzzing. You won't be able to use it for much. After a month you'll get $40 back, great. Is it worth it? You could get more than that by using this PC to write articles, trade or something.

You're not quite right here. I'm writing this from my PC that's mining right now with 3 GPUs and CPU and has a shitton of other programs running. I guess games would run rather slow if I run them with my current setup (monitor is connected via onboard GPU) but then I'm not a gamer.

How can an asic miner cost $1000 and make over $2500 a month. Doesn't your logic realize something is wrong?

When you run a mining rig you don't just run one gpu, you run a few. So this reduced the price and total cost so you should factor that in. It is entirely liable. The oercent of return is really good and in just over a year you will be breaking even. Everything after that is plain profits and smooth sailing.
