Anyone care to tell me why feathercoins are so hot?  I don't get it, it's a week-old fork of Litecoin with two tweaks that I'm aware of (total number of coins and block time), what could be so great about it at this point?

Because it's new and easy to get into right now.  That's the easiest answer I can think of.   I'm going to hold a sizable position 'just in case'.
