Shapeshift.io possible Scam Alert! Read my story.

Hello guys,

I made 5 seperate transactions through Shapeshift.io last week (5 days ago) All transactions were for Bitcoin to Litecoin.
All my transactions were worth around $1600 combined.

I have checked on blockchain and they have received my Bitcoins with many confirmations. But they have not sent me my Litecoins.
I have contacted support and they said the Bitcoins took too long to confirm. And as such would refund me, which is unacceptable because they have my coins and i want Litecoins (which have increased in price since). On top of that, they have not replied to any of my emails/tickets in the last 3 days.

At the moment i am clearly being scammed.

A) I have no Bitcoins or Litecoins.
B) I am being ignored by their support staff.


I will continue to email their support team, but its clear Shapeshift.io are incapable of fulfilling orders! For God's sake it has nearly been a whole week.

Unless you traded thousands of dollars, I don't think they scammed honestly because they are reputable company but like every other company, they have their issues. I suggest continuing sending support tickets and posting here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=717973.560 . It's very likely that you will get an answer in the thread as OP look active there.

If this is unacceptable to you, you should have used a higher fee for a faster confirmation, or used their "Specific Amount" feature (I never tried it, but it's mentioned in their terms).

I wouldn't call this a scam, it's according to Shapeshift's Terms and Conditions:

...  your payment is typically considered “accepted” at one block confirmation.
[...]
Users who are sensitive to the exchange rate they receive should use ShapeShift’s “Specific Amount” feature, which guarantees an exchange rate for a specified period of time.

They even told you they'll refund you. Just make sure they have your return address.

On top of that, they have not replied to any of my emails/tickets in the last 3 days.

It's Easter weekend. I don't know if they normally have weekend staff working, but they might be off now.

I dont think that for scaming anyone need to do thousands of trade , even $1600 is also big amount for some of them, I think wating for 2 more days is not a problem if you dont get reply then you can contact DT members and get help from them

I once had an issue using Lisk (it was having issues at the time). It took me a couple of days to get it sorted, but they made it right. I can pretty much guarantee Shapeshift is not scamming you. Can you post the tx that took too long to confirm or tell us what fee you paid?

Shapeshift.io have replied.

Apparently they will refunding me back my Bitcoins (which is pointless as i desperatly needed Litecoins). I feel as though they just "borrowed" my Bitcoins for 5 days at 0% interest. And even worse, during this time Litecoin price has been bubbling upwards. But i will wait and see how this goes. I will update the bitcointalk community when they (Shapehift) refund me.

Im disappointed. To say the least. I could of just held my Bitcoins for the last 5 days on my Electrum wallet, i did not need shapeshift to "store" my coins for me.

Shapeshift doesn't gain anything from this.

Did you enter a Bitcoin Refund Address when you made the transactions? If you did enter one, 5 days is indeed quite long. But if you didn't enter one, and for example deposited from an exchange or casino, you don't want Shapeshift to just return the coins to the sending address.

All is resolved! They refunded me back my Bitcoins. But guess what?? I will have to now exchange to litecoins, but litecoin price has gone up.

Shapeshift are usually very fast.  That's why they are used by so many people.  It's inevitable that occasionally there will be an error that causes this, and even on Poloniex there are problems occasionally and could be with any exchange at any time.

It's nice to hear some negative experiences for once, but it doesn't mean that you should suggest avoiding them until you've considered all available information.  People who join Ponzi schemes and get payouts think it's going well, but it doesn't stop it being a scam, and in this case it's legit and you having a bad experience doesn't stop it being legit.

Read their ToS because I think I remember there being something where if it doesn't confirm in a certain amount of time your tx doesn't go through you just needed a bigger fee, they already offered your bitcoins back but you wanted to be able to spend them with low fees and now you just want to make profit. If they give you Litecoins it'll be the rate that you should actually receive not the rate when you sent the TX. This isn't a scam. They already offered your money back because of the mistake you made (low fee) but you're just being greedy. They don't owe you anything. You were cheap with the fee and in the end you didn't actually "pay" them until it was confirmed. That's the rate you should get.

Also, If you're so damn worried about your profit margins why are you using an exchange with such high fees??

What part of "they have ignored me for over a week and have not refunded my bitcoins" do you not understand? Bitcoin transactions are supposed to be an instant transaction.

OFC it is a fucking scam, he owed my a 60k usd annual salary job.

However, there was a confirmation after one hour, and until now there have been 23 confirmations.

Still the money is not in the ETH wallet. And no refund was made, even I providing an address to it.

I already submitted tickets but they dont answer. It's been four hours since I sent the BTC.

Are they really trustworthy?

It solved today. They sent me five messages, one for each of the five tickets I sent. But it took 28 hours for the refund, and I had to provide a address through email when I was sure there was one in the order. It was slow.

I have to say a big thank you to shapeshift, they are awesome. So easy to use, if you use exodus, you can simply click exchange and select the coins an bingo, have a quick cuppa and it there in no time. Also if you are waiting for cons to be added to exodus which is supported by shapeshift, you can even exchange your coins before the bitcoins are even confirmed in your wallet. Its that quick.

And for the guy who didn't get his job, you clearly don't deserve it after the way you rant on here. I wouldn't hire you to clean my shitter.

not sure if shapeshift a scam or not but i've contacted them thru website form about an issue i encountered but so far (2 days and 13 minutes) as of now i still haven't heard from them yet.....on a seperate issue bittrex is worse tried opening account since slightly over a month ago only receive automated like reply (asking not to flood them with further ticket) and account still not open yet.....very dissapointed

Shapeshift might take a wihle ot get back to you but they will eventually. Pretty sure that it should be clear to anyone using their service that they are definitely init for the long term and not just here to selectively scam some random guy for pennies.

Just wait for your response and you should be good.

The main problem that i have with them is actually the way they charge bitcoin fees, 0.003 BTC is ridiculous and they should really reduce it. Even in the high fee season like right now, it doesn't take me 0.003 BTC to send a transaction that has 3-4 inputs.
