I've used BTC Guild (https://www.btcguild.com/) for a little over a year now.  They have multiple servers (almost never any downtime), fast payouts, competitive fee rate (PPLNS), and an easier to use interface.  Their 'help' page was useful as a first time pool miner. If I wasn't for them - I might have given up!

As for the how, most pools have a website which tells you how, but in general you just follow these steps:
  • Register on the pool's website and get your username/password
  • Get the pools mining url (e.g. imaginaryminerpool.org:4321)
  • Configure your miner with those options. E.g. in pooler's cpu miner, run it with the command line arguments below
Code:
minerd --user=username --pass=password --url=imaginaryminerpool.org:4321

Hi there guys. You'll be much better off and get much better results at a different pool.
Take a look at the pool stats thread. Triplemining is nontrusted pool. The operator seems to be keeping mined blocks for himself!!!
Try eligius.st with 0% fees or bitminter (with merged mining). Then compare your mining results!

Mining for whom?
For yourself or for the pool operator?

Try another pool and compare!
