[Feature request] Chat box in bitcointalk

Not sure, chat-box has been already requested.

The script of simple machines forum is having chat facility by default. But, not sure why Satoshi or Theymos had disabled it.
I hope, many people here might have been aware of emoneyspace forum. They have chat.

For a community where everyone is valuing their anonymity the most, chat is not at all needed ?
I believe, we can stay anonymous even with chat box.

A chat box can be useful in many ways like how we have in gambling and exchange sites.  
I wish to have a chat box here, it may be helpful to have instant solutions/answers for some emergency situations.
For things which needed to be recorded for future references, we may direct for opening a new thread from chat box.

The same reason why "Marquee [move...]move[/...move]" is disabled, and with a large number of users and the absence of administrators, the server will collapse in moments.

I wish to have a chat box here, it may be helpful to have instant solutions/answers for some emergency situations.

Or it may be full of ref links, spam, and more work for managers.

That's for sure, that chatbox will just become another source of problem because of spams.

Anyway, having chatbox (which has been discussed before, even before I became inactive months ago) is not too necessary. The forum's purpose is to give people and crypto user a chance to discuss different kind of topics about cryptocurrencies which is already happening as we can see. We just can't prevent other people from abusing the forum. So, having a chatbox in my opinion is not too useful. No one will even get to read your message because there are hundreds or thousands of messages that will be sent in a second.

It was requested before and it has been denied for many reasons. If there is a chat-box here then the forum will become useless?  The forum is made for discussions and if there is a chat-box then this should'nt called FORUM. Just searc it on the search toolbar in the forum then you can find all feedbacks about the forum chat-box.

Guess it will be not coming !

Because ther are few things you have to take into consideration !

- You need a Moderator or more for the chatbox !
- Rules for the chatbox

And it will be maybe the best place for Spammers who advert there shit then in it , like pump groups! already doing that at other Chats !

Personal i would dont add an Chatbox .

If you want something from a other User you can Pm him or write on a thread to them .

I am a regular member here on the forum, and can not contrive any real need for a chat box here on the forum. I do not frequent the gambling board, so do not know how it can be applied there. This forum is for cryptocurrency discussions.
There would surely be groups on other platforms designed to fit your demand.
A chat box on the forum would come with a lot of demands and possibly problem with spam.

There are other ways to chit-chat with other members such as PMs, telegram, discord and other platform that provides direct communication.

The forum is not created to connect and make friends rather it is to learn about Bitcoin/cryptocurrency and exchange ideas about crypto, having friends around is just a consulation if you are doing well.

Isn't it great that the forum only provides 'topic and  post' that you can browse and read regardless of when it was posted. We are actually preparing a food full of information to new and future users of this forum.
If we have a forum chatbox there is a chance users just stick to it wasting their time chit-chatting, missing the chance to read some threads that is useful.

Didn't you notice the way those chat room are been abuse in those sites you saw them in? Introducing a chat room to the forum will just increase the rate of paid spam messages and discussions.
The forum is that active that if you got any issue and make a thread about it in less than 10mins you'll get a repond that's only if you post in the right board. so I don't see any reason a chatroom should been added to forum.

I don't know if it is much relevant to this case but at the moment some of us are conducting a tests of the new forum software.

Hope this will kick off the transition to Epochtalk. So I think those kind of request should be pointed to the new software.

I don't like the idea of having a chat box. This was discussed in the past as well and I think i wrote about it back then. Most people mentioned we shouldn't have a chat because it will give scammers/spammers more possibilities to carry out their dirty work. I agree with that. Also, if we were to implement a chat it would mean less activity and less quality content being posted on the forum since it is easier to write and discuss things over the chat. I think that those who wouldn't be interested in reading it would miss some important information being shared.

The community is waaaaaay to big for a chatbox.

It might be suitable when there are like 10-100 people online on it at the same time, but this number is over 10k, it would be totally unusable.

If I am not wrong the Jet Cash already proposed it log ago. Thing is - this is a forum not a social media. If you need chatbox then go to facebook, install whatsapp, use telegram, discord etc. You have options available for everything.

And still no chat box please. I do believe (without looking it up) theymos is against the idea aswell, but my personal viewpoint is that chatboxes rarely have any use other than very low quality content, and results in the page looking messy, and somewhat distracting from the main content of the forum. Its a gimmick more than anything functional for me.

That will mess things up, there are many scammers/spammers up here in forum, shout box will make things easier for them.

Oh wait, what if shoutbox get open (if ever) only for higher ranked/trusted members?

I couldnae imagine anything much more ghastly. It would be unreadable and unbearable. The requirement to compose and post at least adds a small amount of breath between your mind and your fingers. Take that away and the noise level would go up tenfold.

I'm a fan of categories, and the at the very least organized chaos (something which I'd describe this forum as at peak times), but introducing a chat box would completely ruin that, and it would just be completely off topic. If you want to chat with fellow Bitcoiners then you can dm them. A lot of the higher ranked users here actually have private live chat rooms for trusted members.
