I was wondering that are there any free/open-source trading tool and software to trade bitcoins and alt-coins like metatrader which is a tool used to trade Forex and normal stocks in the market. I have been trading on poloniex.com but I didn't find any software than we can install on windows and trade through it. Quatloo trader does that but are there some others too. Please enlighten me.

if you do a google search you can find a couple of them. Quatloo is one of them which i believe i read somewhere that QTL (the altcoin that you need to hold in order to be able to use the software) is being delisted! so better have that in mind.

you can also do a github search like this:
https://github.com/search?utf8=%E2%9C%93&q=poloniex+bot&type=
play around with the keyword and also use the sidebar to select the programming language that you understand.

sadly i have not checked any of these thoroughly to be able to assist you any further.
but also remember most of these are small projects with not much testing so you should expect some possible bugs.
also remember to either understand the code, check it first and then use it or use something that is released by someone you trust or can find some feedback of it developer. being open source doesn't mean they are safe.

Metatraders are free software and if crypto exchanges provide server links information by partnering with metatrader then that would be more useful to test different trading tools for developing trading strategies.

As far as I have experienced almost all the exchanges are just proving web based portals for their traders. I heard bitfinex offers meta trader platforms but I am not trading there. I am very much comfortable with web portals and mobile apps as they are enough handy and convenient for doing trading.

Bitcoin exchangers should adopt meta trade software to the platform as this will help make margin trade easy for traders. Simplefx broker who accept bitcoin deposit and withdraw and margin trade on bitcoin/usd is using metatrade4 and their services very fine.
