Both choices is the best day and long terms is the good choice. and choosing an altcoin in the top 20 is one of the good maybe less risk than choosing a new release or ICO's coins that most of them are scam..
Better to try and test in top 20 altcoin if you are not making any profit you should change your ways in trading to make a good profit.. it is always try and test before you can be successful.

Actually, when trading altcoin it is really much profitable to buy then hold it in a long term. Although short term also was good one to gain it but there is risk involved anyway.

I'd like to go with both, Actually, to long the altcoin need a lot of analyzation. I mean the project with a definite roadmap, Expert team, and big community can be determined as long altcoin, In this way, you can call them a long-term investment.
Too short altcoin is very risky, It can get dumped just in a second and you will get stuck on that price.
Too short altcoin will be worthed with a low amount.

i have bought bitcoin back in 2014ish when price was $400 and it fell down to $300 then $200 and i was still hodling and buying and then buying some more. then it started rising from $200 to $300 and so on and i was still buying and hodling and buying some more.
to this day i am still buying whenever i have money, it doesn't matter what the price is, tomorrow it will be higher and that's my moto. and for the past years i don't have a single regret and am a lot richer. and will continue to do the same to be even more richer lol.

and as for altcoin trading. it is all good and happy while the market is in full bull mode and all the alts are pumping. but when it stops being good it starts getting ugly and does it pretty fast.

For me, I prefer long-term trading because with bigger margin of profit. That will make a lot of profit for me. In addition I chose a long-term trading because I have busy, so can not always look at the market. Moreover, holding long-term bitcoins it will be very profitable. If altcoin, I only choose some altcoin that has good potential in the future so it can be profitable if in the long-term. I've also tried daily trading, but the profit I get is small and even has to take a loss. Maybe for me long-term trading is best practice.

i think it is not such an easy job to manage both short term as well as long term investment.because both short term and long term investment have different strategies. as some people have good experience on short term investment, while other people have long term investment. to me my personal experience is in long term investment as i most invest my money fro long term investment.

For me not a good choice to go in day trading is much risky for me base in my experience much better to get a desire set of margin  and try to make a 4 tier from 8% to 50% set of margin once the price was increase you can sell sample 15% of your bitcoin or altcoin and then if it will increase more you can sell the 30% and if the price will increase more the last tier can sell all of your bitcoin and gain the profit wait again to see the price will low.. buy again..

Yeah but it can also fluctuate in the wrong direction. Better to buy and hold reliable alts IMO!

It is because all is dependant on the type of the trader that is going into the market, some of those are playing on very short positions, and some are doing long-term investments.
Personally I like scalping, where i just set up the stop loss and take profit on 10 pips on forex, and on altcoin trading it is also easy to calculate it.
This technique is on 1minute time frame usually, you need to close your transaction as soon as possibile. I've been using it and as far, it works well for me.

In general, we can't state the proper thing to do especially when dealing in an altcoin trades. Most of the altcoins are experiencing an intentional price movement resulting for heavy fluctuations so even a trader go for long or short, it can wrecked and destroy their trading strategy. And pointing to the coin potential, we will never know until we will put some money there and learn to find the answer by ourselves.

For now, Bitcoin is the only appropriate currency to deal with long term goals as we all know the answer here. There may be some alts that can considered for long term too but I will not state some of them as I don't want to assume all things. We are playing games here in the first place so learn how to deal with all the risk we will encountered.

I prefer only short time investments, especially with alts, as the price of altcoins that do not have big markets get dumped very soon. Most of them don't even last for 6 months and the price reaches below 100 sats easily if people only keep dumping their coins. Long term or short term will depend on how do I look on a certain coin.

Those coins that will put on the idea of long term holding are those coins who have been in the crypto world for long period of time and already established a correction price after their big price increase due to some manipulations or any related thing to that. On the other hand, coins that will put in the idea of short term are those altcoins that extremely having a heavy price volume per day. Examples are those new coins that is now become available at the exchanges after their crowdfunding.

In the end, we are the one who can decide how we will treat a certain coin whether for long or short term.

I want to assume that the altcoins you're referring to are those shitcoins with no aim/product/service. It was during the early days of crypto that Bitcoin clones coins were dumped that way. For me, 3 years would be enough to wait and see where your investment goes. And 10 years is too long though to get back and profit. Well if you have extra money or if you are really rich, then investment in bitcoin for even 5 years would not be a problem. But for almost all of us who are middle income, 3 years would be suffice. Because we don't really know what the future brings, maybe down the line we have some kind of emergencies that we need to pull our investment because we need money.

I guess this is the common practice of almost all the crypto users. Interestingly in recent times the altcoins also is proving the benefits of its long term holding. I guess in the history of altcoins, only in recent times altcoins finding big surge only in recent times. For example, litecoins were finding only downfall even its halving it just got doubled but after some time again prices found downfall.

But now a days even altcoins are getting us significant profits in long term perspective, I guess it would be a new trend and I am not sure how many traders will change their trading portfolio according to this new change.

Short term if managed correctly can out profit the long term.  If the one doing short term keeps on taking advantage of fluctuation and is very successful with it, then he can multiply his holding, and will definitely beat the one who is holding his coin in long term.

Then you miss the whole point of investing and what you are doing is really gambling. How much Bitcoin are you effectively trading right now, if you are saying that "you do not have enough extra money to invest"? No. The Short-term and long-term are denoting seasons/trends/rally/sentiments. If you are entering into an altcoin and finishing of selling it within one "rally", you made a short term trade.

I divide into short trading and long term depend on what coin we're talking about.
We know there are some coins which has shown significant increase within months or years, has been around for years and still growing, then it could be hold for long term. And other coins, brand new and always fluctuate for short term obviously.

Personally I'm a lazy person and I don't really like to dig on things too much except for things that I do really like. Having an option on a trading is a good way to lessen the risk. If you ae going to choose between long term or short term trading, remeber that in trading it does not matter the specif term you will get into the trading what really matter the most is how you are going to manage you trading. If the coin does explode (better word would probably be "pump"), grab the opportunity to sell it and then long it on stabler and well traded coins. This is assuming you invest on those super volatile coins and wait till it does pump. In most cases, all coins will go up, it's just a matter of time. Though this is not always true in all coins, however I often see this in Poloniex since most coins there are all active.

Those are both really gives us really profit actually, I don't see any of them that are not good they're both profitable.
But if you really want to harvest a big profit, holding in a long term is the best choice to do it, than day trading although it is profitable and quick to earn but it has risk involved only, unlike in long term you just need to be patience only and nothings else to be follow.

Just follow the trend and you shall succeed, now that bitcoin is getting its good value most altcoins are currently on dump, you can buy now and expect to make profit again once bitcoin starts to neutralize, it's a hard job to do really if you are doing it for short term trades.

However, if you look for long term trade, technique that I used is I buy at dip and keep it longer, it gives me success doing it, just be patient to wait.
