Actually the one you told useless are the most commonly used and easiest way to promote. You just lack up of patience i guess and strategy you should learn where to go on social media and forum and wehn you already knows trust me it would be a success

If the website you after promoting has good SEO then social media and forums are the best way to promote products or links. I have personally promoted my blogs in many of the forums and it was a recognizable results at the end of my 2-3 months campaign.
