Zipiju,

Has the PCB run been fully funded?  If so how are things coming?  Hope all is well with you.

H@shKraker

Yep, but I haven't ordered the PCBs yet (because the BTC price plummeted recently).
I'm going to order them in a couple of days (one or two) from iteadstudio.com. They should be here in 10 working days.
I still want the design tested before the december the 24th.
Other components from Mouser should be here this week (hopefully). They are already on their way.

Hey Zipiju,

I would like to personally thank you for carrying on with the gen 2 Klondike and for helping out with the Gen1 Klondike firmware.

Sent you 0.1 btc

Also, Klondike Gen 2 still uses 16 ASICs?

Do you need more Gen2 Avalon Asics? Kuz there is a guy here on the forums https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=355616.0

selling some. Is that a good price? Do you need more chips? I could order some for myself and send some to you if you need them to do a full test run.

I would like to support the Gen2 effort.

I've received 20 samples from Avalon, so I have enough. And yes, the Gen2 is still using 16 chips, but since the IR3895 is still used as power reg, the best way would be probably to assemble less chips, so you would be able to overclock.
About the price, you can order directly from avalon - but the minimum is 500 chips for 6 BTC (current price).
And ty for donation.

Is there a pin/footprint compatible part for IR3895 that would allow overclocking on a fully populated 16 chip board?

H@shKraker

Edit:  Could we just substitute mouser.com part number 942-IR3847MTR1PBF for parts U18-19 to enable overclocking?

Edit again Undecided :  I just looked at the data sheet for the IR3895 as compared to the IR3847 and it looks like there will be significant parts  modifications to get the IR3847 to fit the bill.  The modifications are value related and parts count related (duh right??) and not size related so it looks like we'd need to update the BOM for the replacement/new part numbers *AND* update the PCB to add the additional parts (a PITA for sure).  If you want me to I'll track down the BOM updates and send them to you for a future PCB version.  I would say, however, that being able to push these boards to "Turbo" mode at 1.5Ghash per chip, or 24Ghash per board (with proper cooling of course) would be the tits  Roll Eyes .

I too have components ordered from klondikedesign.com that I never received...3 PCB's, PIC's, stencil, and some other misc items. I have still yet to receive them, or a refund despite contacting BkkCoins before and after his hiatus.

I would not mind the parts, or a refund. But I would like a response.

Same here, I have sent Chris multiple emails. I realize he was involved in an accident, and is recovering, but let's hope he eventually gets it sorted out.

Folks,

It might be time to go light on Chris for a little while and focus our attention, thanks and admiration to Zipiju.  Chris did sustain a closed head injury.  One does not too easily bounce back from those.  I for one say if Zipiju gets through a successful test of the Gen2 Avalon boards we have a fine example of a successful DIY ASIC project that was sound in its origin and then lived on (though I will be using a US domestic full assembly house for my production run).  Just my .02USD

About the same as for the first version. Just three components were changed (minus the Avalons ofc).
And btw, still waiting for PCBs, other components are already here.

@Zipiju : can these mods be "copied" to the USB version with a single chip?

Zipiju,

Would using a IR3847 as as opposed to an IR3895 make pushing fully populated with 16 Avalons K16s-55 boards to full "turbo" mode possible?

it's 25A ; putting two on the board makes 50A ; for 16 chips at 2000ma draw ; enough buffer to overclock ...

PCB will change .. but might be worth it... i'm happy to experiment with it though!

H@shKraker

Probably, but it would be a bigger modifiaction than just the one that I made. Thus it would be more prone to errors.

Zipiju,

Looking at the datasheets there are FOR SURE parts changes and a couple of additions.  This might be a worthy adventure for a second generation of these boards .... but NOT right now for *THIS* iteration.  What you think?  Heck, I'll even draw the part if you like  Grin

@Zipiju : i noticed you made changes to github repo ; and news about the progress ?  Are you still using the klondike board as it exists for the avalon gen 1?
