here are some thoughts i have had and i saw someone mention it somewhere so i made it into a topic for more discussion.

you know when you travel to another country you have to convert all your money to their local currency, all the fees for conversion, and all the headache.

here is a though: use bitcoin!

- you won't need to convert anything!
- you won't have to carry a big ass wallet containing a couple of 1000 dollars. it can be on a piece of paper looking like a poem (your seed). and you only need a phone to spend it!

now here is where Japan part comes in.

Japan had 24.03 million international tourists in 2016. The Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report 2017 ranks Japan 4th out of 141 countries overall.
and soon the Olympics are going to take place there.

Now if you have forgotten, recently Japan adopted bitcoin on a massive scale. starting April 2017 Japan is recognizing bitcoin as a legal method of payment.

seeing this mark everywhere is more than enough:

spread the word...  Cheesy

they will probably start introduce bitcoin as a payments in their future anime too, would be fun to see characters of some anime pay with bitcoin in the story

i always love japan they seems one step ahead of everyone else, and embrance always new technology without worrying much

i like also that they didn't try to make their own copy-paste bitcoin with private blockchain like other tried to do, and dismissing everything about bitcoin

I can`t agree totally with this.
1.You will have to convert btc into the Japanese currency to purchase goods and services.
2.People usually don`t carry "big ass wallets".A credit/debit card can do the work.
Anyway, there is huge potential for bitcoin adoption in Japan.

If your 1+1 is anything to go buy it could be a genius master stroke by Japan. They will have a huge reserves of Bitcoin in their vaults thanks to Bitcoins, plus when they convert them their economy will receive a solid push. This is some amazing calculations done by the Japanese, and honestly if I travel I do prefer to use my mobile as a payment mode, rather than that wallet I need to be worried for through out the journey. It will be interesting to see in coming times if they will install Bitcoin atms in stadiums for people to use and pay and that shall give Bitcoins a tremendous boost.

If Japan becomes the new Bitcoin tourist destination, I will most definitely add that to my bucket list. In some countries Bitcoin is banned, but people can still accumulate bitcoins and then take those bitcoins and go on a dream holiday in countries like Japan where bitcoin is accepted everywhere. ^smile^

If you can take that holiday during the Olympics, it would be even better. ^smile^

Japan represent a sort of a big new window opportunity for Bitcoin and when other countries can see the many advantages of recognizing Bitcoin to the local economy, many nations would be thinking of following the same. Japan then is to become one of the emerging leaders for Bitcoin and this something all Bitcoin holders have to thank for.

Right now, the raging surge in the Bitcoin value is mainly to the opening of the Japan market and soon they would be opening up their own 10 exchanges which can cement the demand for Bitcoin. This Japan saga is really now a big rose among the thorns (issues and challenges surrounding Bitcoin).

1. read the bold part again, you won't have to convert anything to anything. you pay directly with bitcoin when a shop, lets say your hotel, the restaurant, the gift shop,... are accepting bitcoin payments directly.

2. yeah but you carry some funds too and i don't have to say all the problems of a credit/debit card and all the theft that is happening. and if you love credit/debit cards so much you can still use a bitcoin version of it. Smiley

It's less likely that people will use it for direct spending and more likely that it can be used for transferring money from here to there.  Bitcoin has a lot of potential for overseas transfers since it's much more convenient to buy, sell and use than fiat currencies where you get terrible exchange rates and much higher fees.

Japans acceptance of bitcoin as form of payment in their political boundaries have caused a huge impact on bitcoin as a whole. Aside from the gigantic and fast increase of bitcoins value the number of users coming from Japan has rapidly increasing in population. Moreover this phenomenon in Japan also blows some air to other countries like a domino effect the number of bitcoin users have also increased.

transferring money from here to there is also called spending Wink
you transfer bitcoin from here (your bitcoin wallet) to there (the merchant's wallet) and receive a product in return. this can be done online while for example you are buying some stuff from the internet, like buying from Amazon. or it can be done offline and face to face for example when you travel to Japan and pay for your sushi with bitcoin Wink
