Hey folks,

I'm working on getting my first rig together and came across a couple "beginner" builds around the net..

http://www.coinminingrigs.com/how-to-build-a-6-gpu-mining-rig/
http://www.thecryptomining.info/2017/04/6-gpu-ethereum-mining-rig-guide.html

After looking into how important it is to save on electricity and increase hashrate I ended up grabbing 4 Sapphire Radeon Rx 580s and had a plan to buy 2 more today. After doing more research (of course after I purchase) on this site I noticed a LOT of people talking about potential issues with these cards :

1. TWO power connectors. An 8 pin main connector and a 6 pin
2. Modding BIOS to actually reach the 29-30mh/s and the potential for bricking, etc

I've never built a rig and while I've been a gamer and online guy for years, I've definitely never modded BIOS in my life.

Ultimately, for my first rig I just want it to be a smooth as possible and from the sounds of it this card is not as beginner friendly as I would have like. I expect some obstacles but if I could just eliminate some of the issues (multiple power connectors + BIO mod) and still get some good results that would be AWESOME..

QUESTIONS : Would it be best for me to just sell these 4 Sapphire Radeon Rx 580s and get the cards mentioned on the cryptomining.info site above, the XFX RX-480 AMD Radeon? What cards are more beginner friendly and offer good mh/s and wattage without the need of crazy BIOS that could brick my cards?

Thanks sooo much guys and sorry for such newbery, I gotta start somewhere.. I really can't thank you for the support enough!! (hope I get some lol)

Keep the cards. There is nothing "beginner friendly" about other cards. You still need to learn to configure your cards and miner to get the best results. A basic bios mod of the memory straps is a straightforward process if done correctly. While the chance of bricking the card is always there, IMO it's very low if it's not done over and over.

Research what works best for your particular card and memory type before you flash the card. I like to flash cards from a command prompt, less variables to get in the way. If you are really paranoid you can flash the cards from a USB DOS boot disk:

Don't sell , try to read and search here in the fourm before you bios mod your card ,580 will hold a good resell value even if you won't stop mining and will not sell it's good to have gpu with higher market value, i read about the power connectors and ppl were saying that the 6pin connector is optional don't know if this right or not but this cards will not need that much of power it's more power efficient than rx480 so seems to be right

DAMN! Thanks for the quick responses..

So I started doing some digging and came across this :

http://1stminingrig.com/are-the-rx570-and-rx580-profitable-mining-performance-review/

There's a video on there about modding BIOs on the 580rx and it says "SAMSUNG." Gonna check if that is the exact unit I got, the "Sapphire Radeon NITRO+ RX 580 8GB GDDR5 PCI-E Dual HDMI / DVI-D / Dual DP w/ bac"

I read another post that said "the most important when you are talking about modded bios is the bios version number. The same make/Model card can have different bios version"

It looks like with a bit of digging I can figure out the modded BIOs.. Now I need to check into the power connectors.

Thanks for the support guys and all the great posts/information. Makes me feel soo much better.  Anymore great reads, tips, or tricks, or videos on this will be consumed with the utmost appreciation Smiley

Also the BIOS version is moot if you modify the BIOS from the card. All you gotta really do is mod the straps (this is true for 480 OR 580)

I own 24 of the Sapphire Nitro+ RX 500's, yea you only need the 8 pin, yea they're more efficient (more stable at lower voltages), and yea they have better resell value.

Just make sure you make backups of all your original bioses (each card apart). Even if you buy them in batch they still can have different components, like a different voltage controler.

There's your problem, not the cards.
