For me it is key to figure if an ico is a scam or real.

For example, i believe giga watt is a scam, like exscudo is a scam.
I am undecided about embermine, tezos, sonm
I think BAT is not a scam (thats probably why it sold out so fast)

How do you guys figure of a coin is real vs a scam (and not talking about a bad coin that fails to deliver results, really talking about a hit&run scam where they run with the money from ico)

If the tezos ICO is as feverish as BAT was then it could end up selling insane amounts and leave no upside for anybody who invests.  Brace selling out its token in under a minute is insane when nobody is actually even using this browser.  Now people are expected to do what, go on a crypto exchange and send in bitcoin to buy tokens from whales just to browse the internet with an adBlocker?  This is beyond idiotic.

I was bullish on Tezos in the beginning but I'm thinking this uncapped ICO is a recipe for us to get bent over and screwed.

Same here, I thought it looked good at first. Maybe it will succeed, who knows? But an uncapped ICO in the current climate is irresponsible at best, and at worse utterly absurd. And when you take into account that the Brietmans are also getting fiat cash direct from the sale, well...

There's a fair amount to read, but this part stands out:

I agree, BAT ICO seems insane.  A few (preferenced? insiders?) buyers who got in for the 24 seconds that the ICO sale was reportedly open for seems to imply obvious whales who now will own this coin to the exclusion of the rest of us, unless we pay whatever pricelevel they now set in the regular aftermarket.  (How Whales Get Richer Off You.)

On the other hand, when a Monet or Van Gogh painting sells for $100M++, the price seems insane but it's arguably a good spillover influence on the rest of the art market:  it educates lazy outsiders/buyers as to what the value now is of an asset/market.  Musical chairs for a while, then  --> bag holders!

Part of me thinks:  let the ICO's of BAT, Tezos, and other new coins go crazy now, it can't help but create good press in Main Street where the mums and dads will hear of this and be forced to bestir themselves.

Wiser hands will wait for the current mania to quieten down in the next 3-6-12 months (risky assumption, I know, but manias and bubbles do tend to exhibit periodic surge behaviour), where we can then step in to buy the better coins during their dormancy, ready for the next breakout mania after that.

I see the SONM having a really great potential in ico, they having a really great success in the community and all of the bounty campaigns they making are great. And I will buy some token if i can.

BANCOR and SOMN look super promising, im worried they will sell out fast.
Im a little weary of SOMN, the seem to be promising the world.
DCORP ICO is still going on. I would look into it if you haven't already.

TEZOS is making too much noise. I read somewhere that TEZOS team is not setting a maximum amount of funds to be collected. For me that is somewhat disturbing. MobileGO didn't have max though and ended up as the highest crowdfunding in crypto history.

Uncapped ICO has both advantage and disadvantage.If it is a good project like TEZOS i would prefer it be an uncapped so that the small guys can get in, by the way ethereum was uncapped. the problem however with uncapped is that if the ICO is overpriced you might not make much good return on investment but its better in my opinion to get a 1 to 2x return in a uncapped ICO than to see a 10x return in a capped ICO that a whale swallows like the case of BAT.

I think at this stage a lot of investors do not care about crazy or morality...they just want to get in if they could evaluate that such ICO will give them a good return on investment. Right now BAT is sitting at almost 10X return on investment. I personally wish i was in...tried sending ether during the ICO but it was out within 20 seconds. right now am focusing on entering STATUS and TEZOS. i have found out that ICO with good publicity often gives atleast 1 to 2x return within a week. So crossing my finger and hope i would get in

If you go around dear thinking about SCAM or NO SCAM you wont make money in the crypto world. Rather do your due deligence. join the slack team and make your own judgement based on what you consider important to you. For me i look at the team and their previous track record. BAT sold out fast coz the founder is the founder of javascript and have a good track record. At least they have a working product which is the BRAVE browser. Personally, i would be investing in STATUS coz of their team and they already have released their Alpha product. Do your due deligence and remember the crypto world is a new world so tread carefully. It could be worth money for you. Like i invested 0.5 btc during stratis ICO and got 55,000 stratis. they did not have any product as at then and i only took a chance. Right now 1 stratis is up to 10USD. Although i sold at 0.3USD but that was a good profit for me more than 10x. Not complaining but only explaining to you the enourmous potential in this early market. do your due deligence, avoid greed, invest what you can afford to lose and you might just hit the next gold.

BAT for sure is interesting but I never invest in ICOs.
After ICO most investors dump because a lack of news (which is logical since they need to set things up).

Then it dips and if there is real potential i buy in.

It doesn't always happen like that. sometimes an ICO on listing can give you a 10X within a week for example LISK gave 7x on the first day of listing. Stratis gave about 5X within a week of listing. WeTrust gave about 4X within a week. Currently BAT is trading at 10X within a week of listing. there are various factors to consider. if after the coin is listed and it takes a bullish trend most people will hodl its common logic. And you may not be able to buy at a good dip if you waiting for the price to retrace. meanwhile i do get your point, most investors would dump if the ICO is bearish, but not always the case.

The fact is i was watching BAT and i was having my plans on investing in it,but when i blinked everything was over,i really thought something messed up and then i came to realization that i was duped and the ICO was over just like that,hope every ICO will be like that in the future.  
Look at Air platform signature i am wearing,i am looking to invest a bit in that.

It was insanity 

All of the chairs already filled by the whale, there is no a chance for the normal person to join on the BAT crowdsale. That crazy fees makes the network gets stuck for several times and make the gas will be so high.
at the BAT ico i can't send any ether or ERC 20 compliant to the another wallet or deposit on the exchange sites due to the out of gas.
The whale pay a lot for the fees but they get really a lot for flipping their money on BAT.
