I like the idea of investing bitcoin in order to earn interest on them. However I'm not really sure if its safe or worth it. Does anybody have any positive experiences of such bitcoin investing. Negative experiences welcome too.  Undecided

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

I assume you mean Investing in Funds such as ASICMiner on BTCT, Bitfunder, Havelock, etc?

I started investing some bitcoin almost 2 weeks ago and have a fairly positive experience so far. I got BTC1.02 from just investing BTC0.7, from the dividends and the rise in price of the shares.

I have also been day trading the today and made about BTC0.01 for 30 minutes of work, I might have got a little lucky on that one I don't know.

I have only been doing it 2 weeks and already making some profit and its pretty fun, which is the main thing at the moment to me as I dont have a huge amount invested. There is always going to be a risk involved with investing but ASICM seems fairly stable and will likely only rise in price (hopefully), so I see it as a fairly good investment.

I would say go for it, but only invest what you can afford to lose.

you really need to define investing

I slapped a 7970 card in an old pc I wasnt using and I just got paid .08 btc for a few days of electricity. At this rate the card will be paid for in about 40 days. So far its fun, 'investing' usually isnt much fun  Tongue

Based on JTM29's experience, I'm investing in ASICM.  Since I don't have any fiat dollars in the system anyway, I can't really lose.  Plus it's something new and interesting.

Check out this thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=99497.0) and have a read. There is a lot of discussion on the actual worth of these shares so do your research. In my opinion they are still very much worth buying at the current price.

I was going to order a unit from BFL, but noticed that preorders started as of July last year!
My order number will probably be ~60000!

JTM29 - I was interested in those shares but wouldn't it be hard to get hold of them given that they aren't sold on any exchanges? I'd have to buy them privately which involves more risk, and if the shares are good why would somebody sell them?

LTC is a good investment.  It's lower than usual and has great growth potential, as it isn't as prone to big money players (with ASICS) yet.  It also has faster confirms and better security that BTC.  I think it will increase in value significantly and potentially even outpace BTC in the long run.
