It's definitely problematic that the price increase in bitcoin places an opportunity cost on spending it. Meaning that less goods will be bought since they are bought at the opportunity cost of holding btc. Less spending = less economic activity.

Coming to terms with this economic reality is at the core of btc.
it does not means you lost all the opportunities you can earn through bitcoin enough so that you will not be afraid of that much loss. You will be able to buy some more and keep it save for days of need or you can hold it till its price will rise once more. bitcoin change its price every day

For me selling bitcoin is also opportunity to lose. But it is okau because your money is safe if bitcoin decrease your money will not decrease because you sell your bitcoin. What if bitcpin price increase high you lose your opportunity to earn a lot of profit. But it depends to you if you sell your bitcoin or not.

Profit is going to come out when you sell bitcoin, you are losing opportunity because you can't hold on anymore. But if you sold bitcoin at good price there's nothing to lose, profit is there so don't regret if you sold some. The only regret and opportunity lose that is possible to happen if you never knew bitcoin and don't have an idea what it is.

Right, many people are still neglecting bitcoin because they can’t believe that there are online currencies. They are so close-minded and because of this, their loss opportunity here is to experience how saving bitcoin have been profitable for many users. If ever became so much popular in the future and its price somehow doubled again, I am sure that many people are going to regret how they ignored the chance of earning more than they could imagine in months, weeks, or a day.

Bitcoin’s use is still limited but who knows what will happen in the future, what will happen if it became legal, to be optimistic, what more can bitcoin do if it became legal?

I agree. Bitcoin's adoption is still very limited and only a small amount of the population is as educated about bitcoin as us here on this forum. It's nothing but logical that bitcoin is still very undervalued.

i am agree with you, i think when the price is down, we can buy more bitcoin and keep it for a moment until the price is up and i think its still worth if we are holding our bitcoin because the price is always back into normal. the price is down is just for correction and it will going up if we are patience to waiting.

Even with the aid of modern technology, bitcoin is still unknown by many people. I have been encouraging my friends to try what I am already doing, which is earning bitcoin, but they seems so doubtful of this digital currency and would ask questions like, "Is that for real?" and "How are you going to used or spend that?".

They would not believe that online currencies exist and that they could be earned through joining and signing up for signature campaigns and altcoins. If only they would try and would see that with the recent rise in bitcoin’s price, they have already loss the chance to have an income of their own.

Ok, you can do that when in trend up of Bitcoin, but when have some news about SegWit2x in next time and maybe Bitcoin can split to 2 network, the price of Bitcoin can crash anytime and need 1-2 years for rehibilitate, can you waiting it and use your money for a place can't make profit in long-term? When you sell your bitcoins you buy on this money something else. It's getting to you purchase. The law of conservation of energy must apply to the money. So I never regret my trades.

Depends on what kind of situation you are currently in, because sometimes selling some of your coins for potentially better gains is the better idea compared to just holding it. You might need the money to buy something rare but you are hesitating to convert because of the fear of price rise. That's a dilemma, and the only thing that you can do is to weigh the potential value between the two then decide after.

yes but what would that do if the 90% of bitcoin holders are holding their bitcoins? But what if selling now and getting the money and then after the split the price falls so they buy it then and then, as it's for sure, the price rises. Depends on how you look at it.

Need some spare btc for a new PC that can at least run Adobe Dreamweaver.

It is very complicated and you are right that this is a dilemma. We must determine what is best and as much as possible to not lose money. It really depends on the situation of each person so we have to weigh the potential value and decide the best option. If there is any need that makes you have to sell, it is better to sell despite the loss. But if there is no urgent need or no matter what makes you have to sell, it's better to hold it until the price goes back up. It's all back to the intentions of each person. If I buy a bitcoin every time I use it for long-term investments, so I only sell when the price is really above. And if the price goes down I will buy some bitcoin to hold. So selling bitcoin is opportunity loss maybe for me yes.

Selling or buying bitcoin depends on one's strategy bro. These actions are mostly backed by some speculation or prediction they think will likely happen.
Selling does not necessarily mean opportunity lost. When one sells, normally it means he has already made a pretty profit. We suppose that when he bought the same amount of bitcoin it was cheaper. Now that he sells them that means the price is already high. Perhaps the same person will buy bitcoin again when the price drops. Selling does not really signify any lost at all.

You can only say opportunity loss when you sold your Bitcoin without gaining profit. There is always an opportunity when selling or buying Bitcoin, you only have to check the price by that you'll know when to buy and sell to gain profit.

It is all in the nature of every financial assets to not continue indefinitely in any one direction as a result of continual pressures being exerted by buyers and sellers. For a trader with knowledge and experience behind, such is always something to smile home about, because they're clear indications that an asset can be bought at low prices and sold at higher prices over and over again, stacking some profits as goes instead of surrendering to wait until whenever prices go lunar. It is however a better choice to simply Hodl, if the maneuveral skills aren't there.

Yes i agree with you. Some time it is much better to sell all bitcoin that you have, than to hold them. If we look in long terms, well for not bitcoin did not disappoint, but how long bitcoin price will go up till it reach the end? For professional traders it is easy to see that point, but commoner can not see that sometime. Because of higher gain, risk is also higher. So for people that are not so good in trading should better sell their bitcoin, and bee happy that they can earn something on the side.

Nope mate, I think you are wrong with this one. Losing money in Bitcoin will result into "Actual Loss" not "Opportunity Loss". Opportunity loss happens when you sold Bitcoin earlier in which the price of it still got a new high that signifies an opportunity loss because of you selling earlier at a cheaper price. Now from your own words and logic if you Gain profit from you selling Bitcoin will it signify an "Actual Gain" or an "Opportunity Gain" if you have a clear answer to that then we are on the same page now.

I agree with you, not having a profit from selling bitcoins is not an opportunity lost. For me, another opportunity lost is that when you have been introduced about bitcoin and told that you can earn it yet you disregard it. The opportunity earn through bitcoin and to be able to have your own money was thrown away. There are people who would let their negativity wins and are afraid to try things that they are not accustomed to.

We grew up knowing jobs or works like accounting, designer, teaching, and etc., and we grew up knowing the regular currencies. When something like digital currencies are introduced to them, most people would try to deny themselves that technology has been unpredictable and would rather be doubtful than to try and see for themselves how it can be true.

You can only say opportunity loss when you sold your Bitcoin without gaining profit. There is always an opportunity when selling or buying Bitcoin, you only have to check the price by that you'll know when to buy and sell to gain profit.
Yup, you say right! I not know why reason many people don't sell when highest price and after the price fall down, they sell it although not take loss, but they say that  is make they loss more Huh Just because of their greed, they blame market =))

All trading could be an opportunity lost or gained.

There's no point speculating about that.  You sell when you need the money.

I'd take advice from a financial specialist that knows about bitcoins before trying to sell or buy..

Bitcoin is unlike any other asset seen before. It's so volatile, goes up and down randomly, and is so easily affected by political and social factors that it's hard to predict, even for a "specialist". Bitcoin especially now is so unpredictable, the time it will take you to contact and ask a specialist for their opinion/research, it may be too late. The price may have already spiked or plummeted.
At the same time this makes it attractive because even experts on the field of finances cannot predict what it is going to happen so the average person can in fact compete with people like this and even beat them at their own game when it comes to bitcoin.
