i thought Ransomware already ended when wannacry be domesticated but apparently the hackers hasn't stop yet and again people in my country talking about the badly of bitcoin because these incident however fortunately i watching the news that none of people in my country has became the victims
Ordinary people often become victims of such viruses because they have almost no information on the computer which cannot be recovered. This virus is aimed at companies who have large databases and are difficult to restore.

It's almost as if companies would need to take cyber security more seriously.

It started in Ukraine. A new ransomware struck computers and soon spread internationally. It cripples computers and digital operating system by taking control of them and demanding digital ransom from their owners to regain access to it. Guess what the digital ransom is?

It is Bitcoin! These hackers are using Bitcoin pseudo-anonymity to terrorise households. This is an international phenomenon and many security agencies have their eyes on Bitcoin. I think that hacks that occur remotely in the cyber world and demands ransom, will continue to ask Bitcoin as the ransom. Bitcoin is the perfect tool for such crime. What do you guys think?

Indeed, Bitcoin is good tool for such crimes to ask for ransom. But is it true that such attacks are happening for first time? Or term 'ransomware' is originated after Bitcoin?
Why to specially mention Bitcoin as a highlighter to hide our deficiency on security front? Bitcoin can't be blamed for these attacks anyhow.

petya is not designed to make money according to reports. Apparently it was created to cause maximum damage under the guise of a ransomewre.

So far they have succeeded in collecting less than five btc. I don't stress over the negative publicity. No publicity at all would be worse. After all bitcoin gained value after the silk road's bust.

No ransomeware was there before bitcoin and I am also one of the victim of such malware that have asked me to buy a coupon code from ebay to get my file unlocked. But I have formatted my laptop rather than paying them anything.

You are probably talking about Petya ransomware, which is actually a cyber attack in disguise. It was mostly build for "targeted destruction" rather than making profit off it. The media always tries to  exaggerate things and jumps off when they hear bitcoins being related to criminal activities. Remember most of the  media are controlled by the government.

Petya is another similar attack in the row that we,are already seen. But it seems that these attacks happen more and more often. Besides the damage the bad thing is also bad reputation and negative promotion for Bitcoin since the ransome is demanded in Bitcoins so some people still think it's criminal currency.

How were ransoms made before bitcoins existed? They used bag of bills and different goods. Online ransoms were paid using different digital good. Does that make those digital goods, gift cards and traditional money a criminal money? No.

The conspiracy researcher in me also thinks perhaps it is another program to discredit bitcoin and crypto.  Sad

There are already a lot of hacker before bitcoin was created and they won't stop at any cost, it is just unfortunate that the hacker choose bitcoin as the ransom and this incident has caused more reason for people to stop using bitcoin and can become the reason the government to banned bitcoin, I hate to admit but bitcoin is a better currency to used in this kind of situation because it is harder to track

Indeed, Bitcoin is good tool for such crimes to ask for ransom. But is it true that such attacks are happening for first time? Or term 'ransomware' is originated after Bitcoin?
No ransomeware was there before bitcoin and I am also one of the victim of such malware that have asked me to buy a coupon code from ebay to get my file unlocked. But I have formatted my laptop rather than paying them anything.
Bitcoin is an anonymous (crypto currency).Which cannot be tracked therefore hackers are using bitcoin instead bank accounts or other address which can be traceable. If hackers use bank accounts instead bitcoin they can be trace easily. Therefore they are using Bitcoin or other altcoins. Because bitcoin is famous crypto currency therefore they are using. So it's not a fault of Bitcoin that Bitcoin allowed to them to use Bitcoin. They are using Bitcoin just because Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency. Which cannot be track.

Yes, I too do not think that bitcoin might been used such a large scale for bad purposes, as it s a new currency and most of the people still do not know about, and  I even such kind of people will never like to take the risk on such a currency about which they have no idea and secondly if they are using it so bitcoin is just a normal currency like other currency which can be use by good people as well as bad people also.

I don't think anyone has actually listed the source of the article so here it is: https://www.forbes.com/sites/thomasbrewster/2017/07/03/russia-suspect-in-ransomware-attacks-says-ukraine/#4254377b6b89

My opinion on this? Bitcoin is always going to used for illegal purposes, because it is anonymous and it is fungible. Irreversibility and fungibility are two of the most important traits of bitcoin, in my opinion what makes bitcoin so great. But obviously it has its downside, and a major one is usage as funding for ransomware software, such as the one here as well as the Wannacry ransomware.

This can definitely be easily mitigated by having up to date patches, active antivirus, and a generally clean environment.

Another case of Bitcoin being shown in a bad way, there are heaps of ways to make money go anonymous and guess what the most anonymous form of money is? It's cash, cash can hardly be tracked.

Bitcoin will always be used for illegal purposes, but that isn't a reason to stop using it. Cash and banks can be used to do illegal things but that doesn't stop them from being used. People who have no knowledge of Bitcoin will get influenced by this and have a bad opinion of Bitcoin, which really sucks.

So ramsomware to ask Bitcoin for their personal purposr is just predictable result because Bitcoin is basically annonymous so that everyone knows that Bitcoin can be easily used for criminals.
