whattomine.com uses 22.5 mh/s for ethash per card as default (most 3gb cards coming in now are Hynix which doesn't do more than 20 when pushed to the moon). When you use 24 hours calculation the top 5 coins are all equihash. Switch over to 7 days (more accurate) and ETH falls to 7th place.
Also there are coins not mentioned on whattomine.com which in itself is a rough estimate at best.
You have a point, Hynix is not good for ETH but I have only GPUs with Samsung memory. If I take an average on 7 days, ETH comes first and PIRL comes second so it's more or less the same as the daily estimate. It's been like this for months. Like you said, it's only an estimation but at the end of the day, what I get in my wallet is quite close and even higher sometimes.
There may be other coins that are not listed on whattomine but I don't know them so it's difficult to say which one is best.
Which other coin should be performing better on a GTX 1060 ? I could try it to see if it's better than ETH.
