Senate Banking Committee Hearing Offers Two Opposing Views on Crypto

https://dcebrief.com/senate-banking-committee-hearing-offers-two-opposing-views-on-crypto/

Actually, one view and one idiotic rant from someone who should not be speaking in public on ANY subject.

You're not wrong. As a rule, we should all be skeptical of anyone whose first response to technological innovation is to cast shade and call it a scam or a worthless idea with no real potential. I'm old enough to remember when people I knew and respected confidently predicted that personal computers would never catch on. Many of those same people later laughed at the idea that the internet would ever amount to anything more than a curiosity.

The more things change, the more some things - and people - remain the same.

In this instance it appears that both are somewhat correct, but Roubini - having a rather critical view and potential set of entrenched interests to pursue by keeping cryptocurrency at bay - is hammering home just what he sees before him, and focusing more on how people are using a new technology, rather than the technology itself. Sometimes, even though there is a ton of crap in our industry that needs to be resolved (like all new things), it takes a while until people really learn how technology will end up being used in a practical sense. This is one of the things that DNotes and DNotes Global Inc. has been intensely focusing on.

This is one of the things that DNotes and DNotes Global Inc. has been intensely focusing on.

Technologies always evolve and never started out perfect. Together, we make it near perfect over a long period of time. We have seen it in personal computers, wireless communication, the Internet, and more.

We are witnessing the greatest technology revolution since the internet.  But this is significantly bigger and more widespread allowing for true global participation of up to 90% of the global population by 2027 with full implementation of the next generation of cell phone – G5.

Since the wealthiest 3% own a larger amount than the remaining 97% global wealth, digital currency with its underpinning block technology has positive world-changing implications. Direct payment between two parties without the participation of a third party makes it possible for the first time in human history to have a technology that provides equal opportunity and participation globally in micro payment, micro investment and other funding programs.

I am concerned about the ruthless culture and rampant bad behavior in our industry. Light-touch regulations are highly appropriate. Our law makers should seek to encourage but not stifle innovations that can help change the world for the better.  Equal opportunity to participate irrespective of wealth, status, or locale is world-changing. Let’s work together to change the culture – fairer and more trustworthy.

Roubini's attitude is juvenile, offensive and combative. No different than the early Internet really. There will always be those who speak from a position of knowledge and those that speak from a position of fear and hatred of anything new that threatens their narrow, focused idea of what is good and what is bad. Roubini also speaks from a position of fear and an obvious bias against that which may threaten the only system he knows. He is not the "expert" everyone thinks he is. He got lucky in 2008 like many others that made the same prediction. He, however, stands out because he is an arrogant ass that shouts above the noise in his need to be recognised. I said he was an ass then and I will continue to support that position. Nothing has changed in that regard. Hopefully, Congress is smarter than him.

Roubini is a joke. Great Mic Drop tweet from Willywoo earlier today

Original tweet: "@Nouriel is an extraordinary talented propagandist! Notice that everything he says about the general scam industry (#blockchain/#crypto) is true, while everything he says about #Bitcoin is a lie. The conflating of the two is not by accident."

Roubini's Reply: "In which way I am 99% right on all my arguments but Bitcoin? Bitcoin is worthless like all other shit-coins. And it is not a currency: not a unit of account, not a means of payment, not a stable store of value (lost 70& of value in 2018), used by no one. It is same garbage."

@woonomic's pwnage: "The 20m people who have bought bitcoin with fiat would disagree that Bitcoin is worthless. Of course a Keysian professor of economics will say a nascent Austrian school currency will be worthless in the face of an adoption curve that continues to double every year."

Roubini at this point is just a walking, talking embodiment of outmoded and failed 20th Century economics. And with the way he tweets and the volume at which he shouts, he's petty. A petty, loud ideologue who is out of his depth and wrong AF. So annoying. I'm permamuted him from my brain for the most part.

It's quite funny to watch the most rudimentary free-market argument - one that boils down to 'it's a market, and the participants of that market disagree with you, and we should let the market decide' - be used as such an effective against a supposed 'economist' (to be fair, keynesians can only very loosely be considered students of economics). It would be a relatively effortless process for most people in more 'based' economic circles (those not paid incomes to promote the status quo) to disarm his arguments - which seems to be covered by a ton of amateur economists demolishing him in debate as it is. I feel sorry for his students in NY.

I've had a look at Roubini's aneurysmic outbursts on twitter, and they mostly constitute gross ignorance, and straw-manning of opponents views. Cryptocurrency has long been theorized to be an alternative solution in a financial collapse -- the very basic assertion that in a banking / financial collapse, cryptocurrency payments can still function. Pretty simple right? Well no! Roubini attacks people with that view by asserting that the argument is that Bitcoin is a 'hedge' for traditional financial market volatility, despite how very few people have claimed this... except for JP Morgan showing that it historically may have been the case. In Roubini land however, you'd be proven wrong if you claimed a six-sided die had a 5/6 chance of NOT being a six, after he rolled a six.

Roubini's continual emotional online tantrums claiming Bitcoin is software of right-wing extremism shows his opposition to decentralized systems is an ideological one at best, and a tyrannical desire to retain power in the status quo at worst.

Hi guys! Two questions:

1. I'm looking for a DNotes wallet for Ubuntu 16.04 CLI version, I don't have an Ubuntu desktop version so I can't use the qt wallet. Is there any?

2. For receiving the staking rewards, does the wallet need to be online 24/7?

I'm also curious where DNotes is heading in the future. I see that Alan is now touring the world to spread awareness for the upcoming Dnotes IPO. Are you still waiting on the SEC approval? And what happens after the IPO?

If you are working on a great project and like what you heard, feel free to connect with me on LinkedIn. I love to be of help where I can. We are gaining great respect and well-deserved recognition. I will second that Alan really is the most kind and helpful guy in the space and goes out of his way to help where he can. Plus, he’s also mega nice. It’s mostly for this one reason that I have absolute faith that DNotes will do very well in the future and continue to grow on a massive scale.

Alan Yong
Author, CEO at DNotes Global, Inc.

Thank you for your kind endorsement, Erica. We are relentlessly committed to the best of our industry while recognizing the challenges that hold back many great projects.

There are a lot of great people in our world – many of them deserve an opportunity to help themselves to enjoy some level of success - to climb the social economic ladder to financial freedom.

We all love to have a chance to help change the world and have for years been excited about impact investing by supporting and investing in the most socially responsible companies – those that help to improve lives and our environment. And that is great.

At the other end of the spectrum is the challenge of true global participation and empowerment. How can we provide true global participation irrespective of wealth, race, country of origin, or locale? How can we assist and empower anyone, anywhere to participate, share, and promote a single vision of a better world for one and all?

Never in the history of mankind have we seen a tool as ingenious as Bitcoin and its underpinning blockchain technologies that make true global participation possible. Blockchain technologies have many amazing use cases, but its ability to transact asset of value, transfer of wealth, and make payment directly with anyone worldwide directly without the participation or approval of a third party or a central authority has significant positive world changing implications. It is estimated that 90% of the global population will be connected by 2027 with the full deployment of G5 cell phone.

At DNotes we are totally committed to building a purposeful, trusted, and inclusive digital currency for the benefits of everyone worldwide. This is a Big and Bold project. Now that we have build a solid foundation we are ready to join force with others and move forward. As always, your support and encouragement are greatly appreciated.

Hi Wosterlee,

Typically we would recommend building the daemon from source, if you are familiar with this process for any crypto it's mostly the same. I don't have access to everything at the moment, but I can provide instructions tomorrow if needed. I haven't used the client only version, but that just reduces the functionality to RPC only.

Yep, it should be always online for staking.

We have started Reg D 506 (c) fundraising efforts (for accredited investors, https://investors.dnotesglobal.com/), that will be followed by a Reg A+ Mini-IPO (for accredited and non-accredited investors), and lastly a full IPO but that will be a couple of years from now most likely.

Wondering what DNotes is all about? Here’s the basics:

What is DNotes?
•   DNotes is a digital currency with a purpose: to serve as a real currency that people can use in their daily lives - unlike other digital currencies that focus on solving niche problems, with no plan to become a real, usable currency.
•   The DNotes goal is simple: achieve mass adoption and become the world’s first accessible, inclusive, and financially empowering digital currency that benefits everyone around the globe.

What are DNotes’ Benefits as a Currency?
•   DNotes is managed as a business – but not controlled as one.
•   DNotes success is driven by a profit-generating company, DNotes Global, created to promote mass adoption, protect the currency, and ensure sustainable growth.
•   DNotes’ unique CRISP savings program rewards DNotes owners with 0.5% interest, every month
•   DNotes offers staking rewards for stakeholders – at 2% a year.
•   DNotes provides blockchain invoicing features to simplify merchant acceptance and adoption of the digital currency.

What Benefits Does DNotes Global Provide?
DNotes Global protects DNotes and its stakeholders, promotes mass adoption, and creates value and utility for the digital currency, including a fully integrated ecosystem.
The company provides a unique cross-ownership model, with DNotes owning 25% of DNotes Global (pre-dilution), while the for-profit business maintains a stake in the digital currency.
DNotes Global generates profit, creating intrinsic value for the DNotes currency to help create a “floor” for the digital currency’s value.
DNotes Global has plans to build a long-term competitive advantage by offering services that utilize DNotes. That strategy will also help to facilitate awareness and adoption of the DNotes currency.
Long term competitive advantage DNotes Global will provide in offering services that utilize DNotes.

What’s Next?
Fully compliant Reg D 506 (c) crowdfunding followed by a Reg A+ Mini-IPO.
DNotes Payment Solution Integration into Existing eCommerce Platforms
Cold Staking Implementation & More

DNotes 2.0 Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: What is new with DNotes 2.0?

A: DNotes 2.0 is a major improvement on the original DNotes blockchain. The new blockchain will allow DNotes and its partner company DNotes Global to achieve its objective to connect DNotes to the modern world of finance and commerce. The new blockchain is faster, more secure, and consumes only a fraction of the electricity. It also allows custom invoices to be created and attached to transactions, and changes the economic incentives of the network to one that encourages savings with the switch to the Proof-Of-Stake algorithm, and paying 0.5% interest on balances that haven’t moved from a wallet address in a 30 day period (~6% per annum).

There will be a soft deadline where DNotes mined after that block will not be redeemable for 2.0 coins:

+20,000,000 Allocated to DNotes Global, Inc for Development & Growth Fund
153,574,552 Total DNotes 2.0 Created

The next update (TBD) will include:
Deferred Staking

Q: How do I swap my coins? (after April 16th)

A: The DNotes coin swap process will now be done through a private fork of the legacy DNotes blockchain. We have created this fork to ensure that legacy DNotes holders are still able to swap their legacy DNotes for DNotes 2.0 long after the deadline, in the event they missed the swap. This also ensures we will not be accepting newly purchased or mined DNotes, protecting our users and network.

In order to swap your coins, you will need the following DNotes v1.3 wallet, which you can download here:
http://dnotescoin.com/DNotes/dnotes-qt1-3.zip
You will need to copy your wallet.dat or wallet backup file to C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\DNotes1-3 directory, open the wallet application and allow it to update.
Next, you will need an address to send your legacy DNotes in to for the coin swap, you can generate a legacy address with the following instructions:
Create a DNotesVault.com account if you don’t already have one.
Login to your DNotesVault.com account, and click the HISTORIC tab at the top.
Click Create Address, and send your DNotes to the address you just created.

Coin swaps will be processed once a month until further notice.

Q: What is the cutoff date for mined DNotes that can be swapped to the new DNotes blockchain?

A: We have set April 16th 2018 as the soft deadline. No DNotes mined after this date will be eligible to be swapped to DNotes running on the new blockchain. We will continue swap DNotes after that date, however the process will not be as easy and will take more time. Any DNotes 1.x purchased on exchanges after the 16th will not be eligible for the swap.

Q: Will DNotes 2.0 be listed on new exchanges?

We are currently listed on:
https://mercatox.com/exchange/NOTE/BTC
https://stocks.exchange/trade/NOTE/BTC
https://www.nlexch.com/markets/notebtc
https://bitebtc.com/trade/note_btc

Beta or Future Exchanges we are working with:
https://blockbid.io/

Q: Are the new DNotes 2.0 coins worth the same as the old coins?

A: Yes, they are worth exactly the same. However we can not predict what price movements will occur at exchanges once DNotes is relisted using the new coins.

Q: I have Mac or Specific Linux OS, will there be wallets for these?

A: Yes!
We currently have Windows / Mac / Linux Mint / Ubuntu Desktop wallets at DNotesCoin.com. If you need something else, please let us know.

Q: Where is the block explorer?

A: https://chainz.cryptoid.info/note/

Staking

Q: What is Staking?

A: Staking your coins helps to support the DNotes network, and the network currently pays out roughly 5 DNotes every minute to one address on the network based on a probability that centers on how many coins the user is staking with as a percentage of the total number of coins being staked on the network. The DNotes network pays out ~2% of the total number of coins per annum. If 100% of DNotes were being used to stake on the network, then by probability each user could expect 2% growth in the number of coins they have. If only 50% of coins are used to stake, then those users could expect approximately 4% growth that year.

Q: Can I stake my coins on the DNotesVault?

A: You cannot currently stake your coins that are on the DNotesVault, you will need to withdraw your DNotes 2.0 to a local wallet and stake your coins from your local wallet. We will in a future release incorporate cold staking, which will allow you stake your coins while they are safely tucked away inside the DNotesVault. However, we do not have an ETA, it will be one of our highest priorities for next upgrades.

Q: How do I stake?

Disclaimer: It is recommended that you properly secure your computer and wallet, as well as make proper backups, before attempting to run your own staking wallet. Failure to properly secure your DNotes may result in loss or theft. If you are not familiar with the process, please start off small and familiarize yourself with the process.

You will need to download the DNotes QT wallet here: http://dnotescoin.com/#Download

Install the wallet (and we recommend creating a backup, after encrypting your wallet)
Go to settings, and then ‘encrypt wallet’. Enter your password twice (and do NOT forget it, or you will not be able to access the wallet and we can not help you).
Go to settings, and then ‘unlock wallet’, enter your password, and select “for staking only”. This will prevent any transfers from being made from your wallet without the password while you stake your coins.
Soon the arrow at the bottom will turn green. This means that your coins are now staking.

Video: https://youtu.be/bR66LWPRzAU

Q: How do I get the most out of my staking efforts?

A: There is no trick to staking efficiently. The factors involved are your coin weight versus the network coin weight and coin weight is the number of coins currently staking. The age does not matter, nor does how you divide or move your coins around.

Q: How much can I earn staking?

A: That depends on how many coins you are staking and how many coins are being staked on the network. The blockchain distributes Current Total Coins / 525,600 * 0.02 every block, or every 60 seconds. You may calculate how often you are chosen to receive the block reward by dividing your network weight verse your weight. If network weight is 100, and your weight is 5, then you would be chosen for block reward 5 blocks out of every 100.

CRISP

Q: Can I get CRISP reward AND stake at the same time?

A: Yes, the system is designed to allow you to receive CRISP on a wallet you are staking

Q: What is the CRISP reward structure?

A: CRISP periods are every 43,200 blocks (30 day target). Payments start 10,080 blocks (1 week target) from the end of the CRISP period.

Q: What do I need to do to earn CRISP?

A: Keep your coins in the same address for the full CRISP period 30 days, set every 43,200 blocks.

Q: When will I receive CRISP payments?

A: The next payouts are as follows:

May 1 - Ends first CRISP period.
May 8 - Payout starts. (Virtually no one will receive this payout)
June 2 - Ends second CRISP period
June 10 - Payout starts

Roughly.

Q: Do I get CRISP payments at the DNotesVault?

A: Yes! You get CRISP inside the DNotesVault, or at any address you control, such as a Desktop wallet. Though I won't suspect you will be able to get CRISP rewards from the exchanges or other online providers.

Q: Where do the CRISP coins come from?

A: The blockchain, these are newly created coins and have now become part of the new coin distribution, just like the staking reward.

Q: How do I earn the interest reward?

A: Our Cryptocurrency Investment Savings Plan (CRISP) payouts occur approximately once per month. All coins that haven’t moved address during that month period will accrue a 0.5% interest, which compounds to roughly 6.17% per annum. If you move your coins during that time, those coins will not receive the interest for that month.

I'm guessing that because DNotes has long-term plan it is hard for some investors to be patient. At least as I understand the crypto community in general. Most (but luckilly not all) people in crypto space just want to get rich...fast Roll Eyes Some of them of course succeed, but there are many more who fails Lips sealed

With the DNotes maybe little bit more patience is required, but the risk is much smaller than with many other coins with high flying promises which offer overnight success Roll Eyes As far as I'm concerned DNotes has really good long term chance of success Grin

I think that sooner people realise that in most cases there are no shortcuts to success the better. In that way you can avoid many disappointments. A little bit of patience can be really rewarding, not only in everyday life but also in the crypto. You just have to find the good coin with reliable and trustworthy team behind it...DNotes is really good example of all that Wink

Great observation Amadeus, there certainly was a lot of fast and loose money in our industry as projects shot into the stratosphere with little more than hype and a promise.

I think there are 3 key components that led to this exuberance of investing in this space.
1) It's very easy to see what a revolution bitcoin and blockchain has introduced to the world and its potential.
2) Many people feel excluded from real world exciting investments, early high risk high reward investments, but not in our industry, literally anyone can participate.
3) Many believe in the premise and stand behind what the technology can do for society.

Couple that with the fact that the barrier for entry into this industry are very low and anyone can make any claim, regardless of if they can or intend to fulfill those claims, and what we wound up with is what I would describe as multiple parabolic waves of investment from disenfranchised people who believe in what cryptocurrency and blockchain has to offer in hopes of breaking through their own financial barriers. The crypto wave and ICO wave are the most obvious and there may be many more to come.

Right now, I think people have wised up and the initial ICO craze is slowing down as people are starting to look for projects of real substance. There are probably many more waves to come, but I think they will be more focused on substantial and trusted projects and even new use cases from established and trusted companies. This is where DNotes will shine and we feel like now is the time for DNotes and DNotes Global to begin to play a leading role in the industry.

DNotes is not about hype and get rich quick, it's about building an inclusive digital currency for use in global commerce that everyone can benefit from. It is our hope that many people will join us in this still early phase while DNotes is what I would call still well undervalued in comparison to our industry. It will take a good deal of research to differentiate DNotes from our competitors and see what really makes us unique, but I am confident most people who spend the time will get really excited about what we are doing.

There is much more to cover on this topic but I'll end here for now.

Excellent, Joe. Wish I have time to comments. We are embarking on three major tasks: Raise the funds, get listed on one or more major exchanges, and start expanding our sphere of influence worldwide.  All that will happen. The best you can do for us is help get the message out. If you are on LinkedIn and other social media, make your comments and share my posts. Let's be proud to be a part of a world changing project and let the price of DNotes takes care of itself.

Slowly there is coming more accountability in the industry, with more people closely scrutinizing projects, cryptocurrencies, and exchanges as we begin to mature from the the speculative/casino phase of cryptocurrency where coins have been able to skyrocket with valuations in the hundreds of millions from just a whitepaper, completely disconnected to any intrinsic value, and towards what I believe a model where valuations are more in line with real network growth and earnings in the underlying businesses. With people rushing towards this model, it will definitely curb a lot of the potential gains that can be made in most crypto, however the shift will likely make valuations of cryptocurrencies / businesses much easier, probably making them much more stable, and thus allowing investor confidence and sustainable growth.

DNotes was one of the first, if not the first to decide to combine the benefits of both aspects into one coin, having the network effect growth potential of a cryptocurrency, with the respectability, sustainability, and stability that comes from the support and ownership structure of a separate company. Our messaging has been consistent since day one and we have always been realistic when it comes to forward-looking projections. Together (but not limited to), these have earned us a trusted reputation among those who know of us that is nigh almost of in our industry.

I really appreciate your answers and hard work behind DNotes. I absolutely agree that DNotes are at the time very undervalued in comparison to many other coins out there. But hopefully soon more people will beginning to realise and appreciate the difference Wink  Cool
