Impossible to know exactly, Bitcoin is pseudo anonymous. The only thing we know is the number of BTC addresses created until this moment, but it doesn't give us any estimative as one person can have one or one hundred addresses...
I believe less than 0.05% of world population uses Bitcoin at this moment.

That seems to impossible because of bitcoin's anonymous feature, i guess you can calculate the amount of bitcoin in the users BTC address by going to blockchain.info In 2017 the current total market cap of bitcoin os 30 bln thats the total amount of bitcoin owned by people but we dont exactly how many people owns it and who has the most bitcoin.

There is not such device that can calculate the total users having bitcoin, even system it will not gives you correct number since most of the users using multiple bitcoin wallet and you do not have any basis on that. And i Agree that you can only view the total balance of 1 address in the block chain and if you do it 1 by 1 i think you can not finished that in more than a year.

right now there are 16 billion btc circulating in the world wide web and if we convert that it is still anonymous and whoever is billionaire on btc, it is not know in the physicap world and it is not counted as a networth. It is not placed in any banks so your accounts wont be monetary counted for public hearings. So if there are people right now, they might just be in laylow but hides there money in the crypto world.

It's practically impossible to calculate. The number of world population is more than 7.5 Billion people. I believe that the number of bitcoin users is less than 1%.

It is not possible to identify how many bitcoin are there in people's hands because bitcoin are kept rotating in the market we don't how to calculate these things daily many new people are entering into bitcoin world so it very tough job to find.

I double checked whether I came to Marketplace or Bitcoin Discussion. It is like assuming the total number of people who have BTC or Wallets. Impossible to know, may be a million.

Not at all possible to get an accurate count for the number of people holding or having small amount of bitcoin. I believe only countable number of people use bitcoin around the world but the wallets generated were high than the users. So an approximation can be made and total people holding bitcoin might be around 5%

We will not able to find the exact count of people hold the bitcoin but still only to see is richest bitcoin address. Other than that if you check the gambling site owner and campaign owners wallet address you could plenty of bitcoin with them. Least paying campaign secondstrade wallet fund also have decent amount with the campaign escrow.

Theres none since bitcoin is anonymous and its impossible to tally it knowing that bitcoin users possibly have multiple wallets have been used and knowing that anyone could accumulate lots of bitcoin which it cant be divided evenly into its users which means theres no possible answer regarding to this question.

People tried to estimate the number of bitcoiners around the world, the estimation ranged between 1M and 2M some time ago. If you search you'll find them. Number probably is outdated too. There is a question, what could be considered as owning a Bitcoin? If someone has bitcoins sitting in an exchange or an y other place that gives no access to private keys, then will he be considered as bitcoin owner? What about blockchain.info, for example? Just wait for another 5 years maybe 50% of the global population around the world already owns 1 bitcoin. With the price getting higher and higher each day, almost everyone is craving to earn bitcoins.
3.75 billions people each owning 1 Bitcoin, while the supply is limited to 21M? Looks like impossible.

i do not think that there is such mechanism through which we can find out the actual number of btcoin users, therefore i think no one can say that how many bitcoin users are present currently, who are using bitcoin. but one thing is clear that the btcon users may be too much and still their number is continuously increasing.

There is no way of telling. There are estimates out there and research done on it but in the end you'll never have an accurate number because people can change their bitcoin address, IP address or anything else that may have been used in the past, on a whim. Trying to guess is like trying to guess how many raindrops are in your pool vs. water you filled it up with. Lots leave all the time and lots are added all of the time. Who knows. As of 2017? What is the latest statistic?

I think this year people have 1bitcoin in this wallet is less than 0.1 percent of the total global population . Because people started in online world and it cannot know know how they started and how to earn different ways. Those people dont have 1bitcoin becayse they dont have big capital to earn like that but those people have big capital their invest their money to bitcoin and invest ti trading, gambling and many more so they have many bitcoin. But some amount I think we have millions . Because they earn also even the amount is little only.

Yes, it is very hard to predict because each person is using multiple wallets so it is unpredictable. Single person will save their bitcoin in multiple wallets.

I don't see any people shouting out that thei exact holded balance or maybe those people who would tell for that are just lying and imagining to make themselves feel proud for this current uprise of bitcoins price. But the thing here is pretty unpredictable truly since we cannot see the exact balance of what is the normal average hodl by one person right now.

I think that would be a very ambitious but not impossible figure. US dollar is an important tool in international commerce but I doubt if just 25% of the world population have a dollar. Well, things might be different with Bitcoin but knowing its current volatility it is becoming more like an investing medium rather than cash that can be everyday.

Actually bitcoin already have limited numbers, than definitely only few percentage of the people have bitcoins. Also it is a unique and different currency that only few people trust on it. But about the whole world know about bitcoin, than believe me, i can't guess perfectly, but perhaps only 3% to 4% people know and have the bitcoin in this world.

You have a good point, bitcoins limited supply means a very small group of people will own some bitcoins from the 21million bitcoins that will be mined I guess you have to count yourself lucky owning some

My estimate would be a million because blockchain had a chart for total unique addresses used in the blockchain and the total for this day is about 680k addresses. There might be some people not moving their coins so the numbers could be much higher than expected and there are other bitcoin users who already died that still have bitcoins in their wallet. I asked google about the question and the answer was below a million but the time of post was during 2016.

Statistics is unknown, simply because several bitcoin addresses can be owned by 1 person. There is no one tracking the numbers of users that is having some amount of bitcoin, if there is some, there is no other way but to see the bitcoin address statistics but as I said, the statistic will be flawed because of the same reason that a single person can own multiple wallet addresses.

As if there will be a statistics that can be used to determine the number of people who own such amount pf bitcoin if ever there is I am not sure if it can considered to be accurate as there is no possible survey that can be done by some organization I guess . Even the number of transactions or wallets being used can't be used as a base to get an accurate statistics .

AFAIK there would be no significant importance for having this kind of statistics. Because we are having one simple indication for notifying about the growth of bitcoin which must be bitcoin price level. If you are interested to analyse how quickly bitcoin has spread then going with bitcoin prices itself more than enough. Because number of bitcoin users/number of bitcoin addresses being used kind of statistics are not capable of not filtering out duplicate information.

we don't know how many people own some amount of bitcoin because we don't know how many wallet that people have in their sofware or hardware. we only can watch the address that is show in the blockchain without knowing who is behind that wallet and where the owners live. especially with todays that many new people join into bitcoin world, i am sure that they will have many bitcoin too in their wallet and we can not know how much of them that have the same amount of bitcoin.

It's really low compared to the world's population. There is no easy way to look at it because addresses do not represent people. People can have multiple addresses easily and have coins on all these addresses. If you look at the number of people on this forum, it's around 1 million right now. I would say that if you filter out all the alts you will get somewhere around 200 to 400k people. Add a few hundred k people that aren't using bitcointalk but also have bitcoin, i'd say that 500k is a good estimate. It's less than .01% of the world's population if i'm correct with this, which means that bitcoin is barely mainstream but if you have bitcoin then you're a pioneer

And people who lurks to the internet who sits hours and hours just in front of the internet. I would agree also that we can be pioneers but i think it maybe difficult inculcate btc to people who does not like works that requires you sitting all day because some traditional people would prefer physical world than just sitting over the internet.

i think no out of 7.5 billion population at this time there's no way 40% of people use bitcoins as of now i think it's just 0.5% who knows there is no specific data because of bitcoin anonymity but maybe bitcoin in the future will take over the world because some country like japan legalize bitcoin.

I cannot comprehend why people are continuously asking this type of question since it is obvious that it is impossible. How about they ask first about how to know the actual number of people have bitcoin around the world before asking how many people have bitcoins. Even by asking all the people in the world if they have bitcoin, the result may be inaccurate since not everyone will admit that they are using bitcoin just to secure their anonymity.

The interesting thing about Bitcoin is that for years the currency price was extremely low, allowing investors around the world to get in. In addition, there was a 90% crash, more than once, making it easier for other people to become part of it.

It is hard to say how many people own some amount of bitcoin because one person can have or own thousand of addresses. Aside from that it will take long time to trace one person's btc address. So I say it is very hard to tell the number of people that owns some BTC.

There is no meaning in asking such a useless question. First of all bitcoin transaction is anonymous. Then how can someone calculate how many people have bitcoins in their wallets. We can only guess how many are having bitcoins and I guess may be 10% of the world population own bitcoins because cryptocurrencies are not so popular but its getting popular nowadays.

It doesn't sound useless, because such predictions only help with the calculations of average number of bitcoin users based on the usage all around the globe. In my view we are very less in number, may be some 2-5% and expect a increase close to 20% by 2018 end as the popularity and spreading is happening good these days.

As of 2017? What is the latest statistic?
That is actually not possible to even estimate the number of people using bitcoin, and blockchain network. It is because that the chance to get the wallet address that was already generated is pretty much 0: it is so rare, that we should not even consider it as a possible scenario. As you probably already know, bitcoins can be tracked, but there is no any way to list address or wallet to some specific person. It makes the whole task you are saying about impossible. You should bear in mind that people can own many bitcoin addresses, and also many wallets were created and never used. If you found out some brilliant idea to check it then give it to us but well... Im sure there is no such a solution

Not at all possible to get an accurate count for the number of data
I think less than 0.01% of the world's population holds Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies for sure. We can get how much of Fiat is in cryptocurrencies but getting to know how many people are owning is quite complicated. I think as the bitcoin has being getting popular across world now so generally it should be 1% of the world should be owning or at least would have owned sometime in their life. Well there are 1000 altcoin and btc so many would have held atcoin or btc for that matter atleast once for sure.

Its impossible to know the real size of people with bitcoin, knowing anyone can have more then one single wallet at each provider, i would say there are around 1-3 milion people with bitcoin, even knowing this number is growing all days as well.

I agree. Multi signature wallet is widely used nowadays and many bitcoin mixers are available to hide bitcoin transaction. So it is very hard to tract bitcoin holders.

I still think it is way below 1% of the world. I haven't even met anyone who even had a satoshi in his wallet ever in real life. So, I guess that's still a really low number. Though, what's good is that there are plenty of people who knows about bitcoins and awareness is really raising.

With Japan legalizing it, I do think that people owning some bitcoin in their wallet has increased. But it is still hard to make a educated guess on how many people globally or the percentage of the total population have bitcoin. But I believed that more and more people are aware now of bitcoin and this is growing every day. Perhaps we will never really know the exact figure. We don't know where to start with, should we used bitcoin address? I think this is not an accurate method to used because many of us have multiple addresses to begin with.

As of 2017? What is the latest statistic?
We can not count the exact number of bitcoin users this year. No data can provide all such information. If seen from the number of wallet address then there has been a remarkable increase compared to last year, but this can not be a benchmark because everyone can have dozens of wallet address. The one thing that makes me believe is that nowadays the number of bitcoin users has improved fantastically, I see it from the enthusiasm of everyone in the world. They appreciate bitcoin very well, treating bitcoin as an important thing.

Impossible to know exactly, Bitcoin is pseudo anonymous. The only thing we know is the number of BTC addresses created until this moment, but it doesn't give us any estimative as one person can have one or one hundred addresses...
I believe less than 0.05% of world population uses Bitcoin at this moment.
like you said is very difficult to know the number of bitcoin's owner and amount they are own but we can easily confirm about the numbers of bitcoin own by individual wallet from blockchain. I think for now over 1% of world population own bitcoin now.

The only way is to have random predictions, and the same seems to give us an approximation. From this I hope the user base would be around 5%, which might have got rised due to the ongoing mass adoption. Around 30% might be aware of bitcoin as stated. Hope they would soon start using it for an better growth.

Maybe the arpon just used the term "know" not knowing that he is replying to a subject that is concerned about "own" and not "know". Nonetheless, regardless of the reason, both of you were misled. Even though Australia announced the acceptance of bitcoin, it does not mean that all of Australia will use bitcoin or know about bitcoin. Let us be realistic here. Not all citizens of a specific country is aware of all the happenings in his/her country, right? 25% is more than 1.75 Billion and 30% is more than 2.1 Billion, that is just based on 7 Billion. I must say that it is too much statistics. Well that is your opinion and this is my opinion.

First what do you mean by some amount of bitcoin? Do you include those that have small amount of satoshi's as it is small portion of bitcoin. And with the statistics there is no, I haven't seen a statistics regarding on your question. Let's assume that with 1 million bitcoin users now, all has "some" amount of bitcoin.

One person can generate many transactions and it won't be easily discovered that it was just from one person because of the easily generated addresses. Generally, at best bet, we can only assume these things. Accurate record will be hard to come by.

No way! It's going to be less then 1%. Way less. It's less then 10 million people who have access to Bitcoin that they can sell right now and 10 Million is a very tiny percent of 7.x billion.

I'm trying to estimate it and I'm only thinking we are even lower than 1% because it's hard to think on what will be the accurate stats for this.

There's no even statistic about it, most of the news about the total number of people who uses bitcoin are just all intelligent guess. You can just also check and depend on the number of transactions that is happening and just check it on blockchain.info. If you are studying or doing some research on it, I guess it will be a good tool for you.

It's hard to make the transactions dependent with the statistics on how many people are owning bitcoins on this world. Once you are a bitcoin user and you have generated a lot of transactions that can fool the statistics as one person can create many wallets with amount inside. So there's no way to know this type of survey.

We dont actually know because bitcoin is anonymous and cannot be traced or tracked. The no. if bitcoin addresses can be counted but that doesnt give an idea of how many bitcoins are there in each addresses. No one would excactly shout their own bitcoin balance so..

I guess 0.5 or 0.4% of population may hold some BTC. Approximately.

Even the system cant give you the exactly numbers of how many people own some amount of bitcoin in the world. If youll try to search it can only give you the percentage. Like in knowing the population here in the philippines we dont know the exactly population.

Yeah its impossible to know how many exact people have bitcoins as even people have multiple wallets so you cannot know how many exact people are using it but the fact is very few people are using bitcoins at a moment.

It is not possible to determine the exact number of people and amount of bitcoins they own due to the decentralization of bitcoin. There are about more than 16 million BTC circulating worldwide. The amount of people using bitcoins is low because many people are not well aware of it.

I can say that we are already many in the market and people who are using bitcoin are already a lot. The percentage is still small compare to the percentage of total fiat users in the world. And awareness of the people is already spread as bitcoin is making a lot of noise and there are countries that are ready to adopt.

yes there is no such way through which we can find out the actual number of bitcoin users. but from the increasing demand of bitcoin and the price of bitcoin we can conclude that the number of bitcoin users are increasing rapidly.

I'm not sure with 25%. Users may only spend between 2-3% only, there are still many areas that have not been able to access bitcoin. They are rural areas that still do not have internet access. So 2-3% is a normal number. We can not be naive that bitcoin requires that we have adequate infrastructure. Oh yes the total amount of bitcoin in each person would be difficult to calculate and I think it is impossible.

There might be a number of people already who have been owning some amount of bitcoin in the world yet it's still in a discrete way. Government hasn't confirmed yet about bitcoin's potential in the market. It's not that popular to some well of course it doesn't need fame however, It just needs credentials so that it will be widely spread in the world but not forcibly getting the attention of people right away. It takes a lot of time for it to be recognized fully. The case will all depend in the hands of people and the approval of the government someday but this time let's take time to save or use bitcoin even if others don't know yet.

That is true as there is no way you can trace a bitcoin address to a particular person unless the people holding them declares it as theirs or the exchanges or whatever services get a hand on who owns the wallet. Also, bitcoin anybody can generate as many addresses that they want, it becomes more difficult to know how many people own bitcoins.

I think for now, it is very difficult to know the number of people that own bitcoin if you want to use the number of account holders with bitcoin address. But I believe with time and technological advancement we will get least the percentage number of people that own bitcoin in the world.

Just wait for another 5 years maybe 50% of the global population around the world already owns 1 bitcoin. With the price getting higher and higher each day, almost everyone is craving to earn bitcoins.
7.000 billion people on the planet 0.021 billion BTC max. in circulation 0.016 currently Do you see the mathematical impossibility with your calculation?

There is not such device that can calculate the total users having bitcoin, even system it will not gives you correct number since most of the users using multiple bitcoin wallet and you do not have any basis on that. And i Agree that you can only view the total balance of 1 address in the block chain and if you do it 1 by 1 i think you can not finished that in more than a year.
I absolutely agree that there’s no device that can calculate the number of people have bitcoin. I think there are thousands or millions of people who already use bitcoin and I guess all things about bitcoin is already spread in the whole world. I believe in the future all people in the world will use the bitcoin.

I'm not sure of the reality. But in a overall calculation and based on the popularity it has gained in around 9 years lot people could have came to know about bitcoin as well virtual currency. But when it comes to usage maybe around 3-5% of the people might hold at least few Satoshi.

As of 2017? What is the latest statistic?
In the year 2017 bitcoin users increasing in number even every day there are new users who began to plunge in the world of crypto because they see by investing in this digital currency looks very promising, especially its value is very easy to change even can reach very high, Therefore we can not see the number of bitcoins they have from each user.

Very well said here. Even if we use mathematics and statistics here it is I possible because we are lacking out of given data's. As of 2017 the population is slowly growing as well as the technology of the internet is reaching out different parts of the world so we have a lot of improvements in information technology, that means that many people will know about cryptocurrencies and btc. The question here is that some people who invest in btc is not known because they have their own way of storing btc, that means we're lacking of number of users and amount of btc at each user. There's a big question mark in this one.

Counting the actual amount of people holding bitcoins is a quite hard job or nearly impossible. I think, more than 10-15 bitcoins might be mined each 20-30 minutes so the number of bitcoins may be increasing rapidly. Many people hold a quite large amount of bitcoins including huge traders and investors. Also some people who used to mine bitcoins a long time ago in 2009/2010 had plenty of shares of bitcoins due to low difficulty in mining and now they are millioners. We cant actually guess the exact number of peoples using bitcoins but as the craze and price of bitcoin is rapidly growing, im sure many more people will surely join this bitcoin world.

Usually i see bitcoin users are here in all over the world but it is impossible to know the perfect figure how many people are here of bitcoin's users? So our guess is enough. But i am also sure in the coming years bitcoin would be know in all over the world as a popular and powerful crypto currency.

Periodically the users around the world for bitcoin as well other digital currency keeps on increasing. Well, it is if we look at the technology that brought bitcoin it certainly will provide many advantages for the majority of users of the bitcoin. But now there are a few things that can provide enough impact to make some people confused to stick forward or backward, for there are several propositions about the separation of the bitcoin or segwit on next month. And there are some news circulated that later there will be some things that are bad, so it's one of the things that we can indeed consider to do something right when it's getting valid information

Basically bitcoin has a limited number and Bitcoin has 21million bitcoins only. Then we could guess how many bitcoins have been used and i think near about 15million to 16 million people have bought it, and it is very low number of the whole world's people who are using it, than you are right it will be 0.5% of the world people who are using the bitcoin.

Do you really believe that? There are about 7 Billion people in the world. 4% - 280,000,000 - That is 280 million. I think that we are lucky if .4% of the population owns some bitcoin, and that would be 28 million... 1% would be 70 million. Of course, there are people and there are various kinds of institutions, companies, affiliations, organizations and governments that could also own bitcoin - but we seem to be quite a distance from even achieving 1%, no? I think that you can put all the cryptos together, and still fall quite short of 1%. I think that there has been some research already that support plausible conclusions that there is a lo tof overlapping between the holders of bitcoin and the holders of various other cryptos, so including all the cryptos does not exponentially increase your total number, but it could double or triple the total number who hold some crypto, perhaps.

Spam posters, I thought I just wanted to re-share the link (as I've been reading it again). It's by no way the most accurate data around, but it's certainly one of the more credible (and recent) ones out there, published in April 2017. There are other research pieces coming up that look at users of services who use Bitcoin, and it's interesting to see an aggregate of around 1-5% of digital payments from Bitcoin being quoted across quite a number of places. Only, I feel this isn't a representation of people starting to use crypto, more like that the availability of crypto as a payment method has attracted Bitcoin users.

No statistics since bitcoin is anonymous and also 1 person could able to make hundreds of wallet address if hed want to, which means we cant really able to identify out on how many people do have bitcoins. Even if you do plan to make countings for sure it would really takes time or even nearly impossible to know such thing. We shouldnt really bother at all on this kind of thing.
