Hello,

I downloaded the Bitcoin core wallet a few days ago. In case i need to move my bitcoins to a wallet the supports
both chains.

This takes alot of time, i don't know if i will have the wallet fully synced Aug 1.

So what i really wonder, is there any litewallet that support same wallet.dat?

Thanks!

You cannot just save the priv. key and import where you want?
Even if you can't, In case of a fork your coin will be available in both chains, because you don't spend meanwhile.
So even for what I know you are safe, "like a cold wallet" if you don't spend any satoshi.

Okay, yes i have all Bitcoins on a wallet.dat, and have not touch them since 2012.

So if i don't spend any coins i'm safe?

Thanks!

You should be fine as long as you have the private keys.  Please make sure you have several backups of the wallet too.

You can always export the private keys and use a lite wallet to manage them, even without being fully synced.

Store a private key could be a good way to get a cold wallet. Isn't a cold wallet for definition (because now you have imported in your bitcoin core), but if your laptop is secure you can't risk anything by storing btc just in priv key.

If you dont want the brunt of the initial download of the blockchain of about 140GB you could try looking at alternative lighter clients such as Electrum (from electrum.org) which will still give you private keys and will still make you able to access both chains.

What you should understand is that bitcoins are not stored in a wallet or a .dat file. Bitcoins are stored on the network and the private key is giving access to your coins. So don't be scared but I am trully suggesting to look more than a few times per day after 1st of august the price of bitcoin.

11 days left and we still don't know what is going to happpen.

Yes the best way is just to take your private key. Nothing more than that.

Anyways good luck keeping your coins till 2020

I don't have a sell plan really, maybe i switch a small amount to altcoins.

If Bitcoin live i will have most of my stash left at 2020.

I'd strongly recommend you don't go into altcoins based on how high Bitcoins value is becoming (at least without a strategy/bot to do it for you).
Although, the altcoin price does seem to be fairly consistant on average with the Bitcoin price, (such as doge being always at 50 satoshi - when there are no manipulations of the market, pumps and dumps).

Hello again,

I want to claim my BCH, as you know i have my BTC in a wallet.dat(Bitcoin Core)

Is it safe to use the method below?
Do i need to send my BTC to a new wallet with new private key after or is it safe to have the wallet.dat i have now?

https://medium.com/@itsjameswhite/how-to-claim-bitcoin-cash-from-bitcoin-core-to-a-full-node-wallet-de661b8e7dda

What you need to do to spend your ABC coins is to just make a copy of your Core wallet.dat file. Then install the Bitcoin ABC client and put your copied wallet.dat file in the place where you want the ABC datadir to be (do this before starting ABC). Then start ABC and let it sync. When you want to spend your ABC coins, just use the ABC wallet. When you want to spend your Core coins, use the Bitcoin Core wallet.

It is best to transfer your BTC to a new wallet, and then import the private keys of the old wallet into a BCH wallet such as Bitcoin ABC.

Yes, that can work as well if you want to compromise all private keys. As said, best practice is to move over BTC to a new wallet as a safeguard.
