Feel free to report plagiarism in this thread. But please make it easy on the moderators by checking modlog the next day (or a few days later) and edit your post when the account has been banned.
Example: username banned!

Users lhmrij and xca900174 deserve a permban. Update: banned.

lhmrij
I noticed this post (archived):
I wonder how the recent BTC TX backlog will affect future byte distributions.

This is a direct copy/past from this post (archived):
I wonder how the recent BTC TX backlog will affect future byte distributions.

I checked the post he made before this one (archived):
Blackcoin's growth is actually quite modest compared to many other alts. I wouldn't read too much into this without context.

It's also a copy/past from someone else (archived):

Edit:
xca900174
This user does the same. Copy/paste (archived):
i have two questions, when the next distribution will be? and can i link the same bitcoin address to another byteball address for the next distribution or i need more bitcoin linked with new address

Original post (archived):

I doubt they speaks English. Both are Chinese, both use the same SONM ICO signature.

It would be better if you post on this thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1163169.240 (Currently this thread for someone who got caught copy-pasting)

Surprise, suprise yet another copy and paster on sonm campaign. Looks like there's more massive farming going on in the Chinese section. If you look at his older posts and click on one of the threads all those with sohm avatars likely belong to the same farmer:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1416210.msg15290219#msg15290219

Ones without signatures will have already been caught and banned for copy and pasting.

Thanks for taking care of them so quickly!
I'll stop archiving them. lfwjaw deserves a ban too:

Copy/paste:
It seems that this project just picking up the pace in true senses now after this distribution. I see many new people are active in the thread and are sharing their experience of getting some piece of pie from recent distribution. Untraceable transaction and highly secure network is going to be main reason of the success for the byteabll. Community is growing rapidly now which is also very important as it will become community driven project soon.

Always nice to look the cleanup in modlog once you're on to them Smiley

Jenny Moll is a total shitposter. I did find a copy/paste, but to be fair I think it's a failed quote:
Copy/paste (failed quote?):
The problem is, most noobs use web wallets because they are too lazy to download Core, or any of the wallets that will give you proper options like -zapwallettxes, RPF or whatever.
Not too lazy, but take up too much memory。If the memory footprint is small, I will choose CORE wallet. It's really big.Is this the cause of the obstruction?

The "asking for miners" resort is pretty lame and not very user friendly... it's a problem. Web wallets should be forced to give more options in case this happens.

Stupid people buy on top of the pump, smart people buy now before the next news are announced.
Smart money buy when it's cheap, quiet and seems like nothing is moving. Dumb money chase pumps and usually late and buys the top.

User romanekras (also S O N M sig campaign) copy/pastes most of his posts, and adds a link "more" to the site he copied it from. He doesn't even bother to do some proper formatting, adding a link is not enough to justify copy/paste spam:
Ethereum Roundup With Vitalik
Metropolis Recap
Meetings 15 and 16 for core developers were announced.
Accepted Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) are now listed, many of which have been implemented in C++ and Python. Tests for other clients are being run as well.
Hive readiness for GeneralStateTests is underway by way of conversion to BlockchainTests and is enhanced from old statetests. Clients that have yet to implement GeneralStateTests are encouraged to provide a docker image and contact Martin Swende for Hive testing.
A finalized release date based on when the testing phase has reached the milestone of passing on major clients is still pending. An increase in block difficulty underpins the continued delay of the ice age. Buterin's prognosis is that block times won't exceed 20s until July 12, and won't exceed 30s until September 12.More

Ethereum Domains Trigger New Digital Gold Rush: Altcoin Watch
While investors around the world, particularly in Japan, are buying up any digital currency at an unprecedented rate, a new market sector in this space has just begun. Ethereum offers another arrow in its quiver that Bitcoin does not, and it is becoming quite the hot investment in its first week. Are you in the right place at the right time?
If you want to send Bitcoin to someone, you have to enter a public key address that no one will remember, or even really want to use.
You’ll begin by copying and pasting a fairly random set of numbers and letters like “0xffF067E7ebe44Cc949C1c49Ca069BCFb4022b5fc.” This is not so much of a problem as it is a phase of early development Bitcoin needs to grow out of, like diapers or training wheels.
"Ethereum has hit this next level of usability and development, as of May 4, with the new Ethereum Name Service (ENS) run through a website. This provides Ethereum users with the ability to cherry pick their name, or even a famous name, add .eth and have Ether sent to them in a much less technical, more familiar way, like sending an email to someone’s address."More

Waves launches landmark Euro gateway
Waves, a decentralized platform for launching crowdfunding campaigns and issuing digital assets, has launched its flagship Euro gateway, allowing users of the platform to deposit and withdraw Euros from within the lite client, holding and trading them directly from their Waves accounts as WEUR blockchain tokens.
The Waves Euro token is provided through a financial arrangement with a fully licensed and compliant gateway partner. All regulatory requirements including KYC and AML are met by the partner, at the point at which money enters or leaves the blockchain.More

OneGram Sharia Compliant, Gold-Backed Cryptocurrency Announces ICO
Dubai holds the distinction of being the financial capital of the Islamic world. Now, a firm based out of the Emirate has decided to redefine the digital “gold standard” with OneGram, while factoring in the 1.6 billion followers of the Islamic faith. The gold-backed cryptocurrency has announced its ICO at the recently concluded Consensus 2017.
OneGram calls itself the world’s first Sharia-compliant cryptocurrency whose value is backed by actual gold reserves. Hailed as a Bitcoin alternative for the Islamic world, the ICO was announced to coincide with the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan. The OneGram platform is aiming to raise a total of $500 million against 12 million OneGram tokens (OGC).More

farharhadi Is a copy/paste/editing shitposter. It's quite creative: he replaces enough words to make it not an exact copy/paste, but he just says what has been said already. And while doing so, he reduce the level of English in the post.

He did it to one of my posts, that's how I found him:
farharhadi:
Collision is a problem that must be solved by finding the key then the problem is finished and will be resolved properly. If you can show 2 different private keys that both point to the same address.
Original post:
The only way I really believe you have a collision, is if you can show 2 different private keys that both lead to the same address.

farharhadi:
Bitcoin can be used by the layers of the small community because bitcoin will provide a big change.bitcoin is a great innovation that is highly appreciated and favored by the layers of small and medium society, due to affordable prices and increased transaction costs and lack of awareness of technology.
Original post:
Bitcoin need to be get used by all levels of the society, only then the ultimate growth of bitcoin can be experienced. Bitcoin really a great innovation is much appreciated and preferred by the large scale users than the low level people, because of the affordability and the increasing transaction fee and lack of awareness about technology.

farharhadi:
Yes I am holding my bitcoin, but it is very difficult in experience ever done in bitcoin prices soaring up high before being ignored by me. I hold bitcoin when the price is stable and sell it if there is a fast pump and I just invested bitcoin into ico
Original post:
holding bitcoin is very difficult it is based on my experience when bitcoin is at peak before dump. I think by continuing to hold bitcoin would be more profitable and after the dump on bitcoin I feel bad. I hold bitcoin when the price is stable and sell it if there is a fast pump and I just invest bitcoin into ico.

It was brought to my attention that Legendary green trust user s1lverbox has copy/pasted my work. I don't mind competition, but I hate plagiarism. He clearly copied my text and made some changes (some text got moved, added or removed). I will point out the similarities here, for a better overview I have removed the parts that are different.

I need to edit my posts (B4RF pointed out a mistake), so I have archived my thread for evidence before changing the edited-dates.
My thread archived.
s1lverbox's thread archived.

Copy/paste:
The Stellar Lumens Airdrop has started!

A Bitcoin snapshot of the block was taken on June 26: any Bitcoins you held at that moment qualify.

Every Bitcoin in an address at the time of the snapshot, will give 974.957961 XLM

The airdrop ends on August 27.

Is this safe?
Yes. Signing a message does not give anyone access to your Bitcoins.

Wasn't expecting it from someone old in bitcointalk with Legendary status. Disgusting  Undecided

I checked his latest post too:

There are no boundaries to Bitcoin or cryptocurrency. No exchange values and no third party interventions. Bitcoin allows seamless transactions across nations with a ledger getting maintained at the backend.

User StevenCastillo got my attention after posting an irrelevant long story. He turned from shitposter to copy/paster the moment he joined a signature campaign.

Copy/paste (archived):
The Bitcoin network recently experienced a hard fork which created a new kind of digital currency token: Bitcoin Cash (BCH). Because this currency developed from a split in the main Bitcoin blockchain, users holding BTC in software wallets at the time of the fork would have gained an equal amount of BCH corresponding to the same private keys.
By importing your Bitcoin Cash to BTC.com’s Bitcoin Cash wallet, you will get complete control over your funds. This means that you will be able to send, receive, and store Bitcoin Cash without any third party being able to access your funds. You can transact your Bitcoin Cash in a simple and secure manner.

I don't see why it shouldn't be allowed as long as the deal legitimate in the sense that it isn't made up solely for post count padding. It's not uncommon for people to copy the style or text from other people's offers.

I want to be nice and say so sorry to you and you keep updating more? Thanks sir, in life, there're so many cruel people Smiley . Hope you are good in hell  Roll Eyes
Of course you're not sorry for copy/pasting, else you would have apologized to me as well.  You're sorry you got caught.

Enjoy your permaban and lack of earnings on bitcointalk, you post-stealing, 4th world country scunt.

On to other matters: the last post here, which I can't quote because my phone isn't up for it, could very well be a case of putting good phrases in his memory bank and using them unwittingly.  I've done that before.  In either case, it's not a copy/paste job--if anything, it's paraphrasing.

User needfix24 registered yesterday and today discovered copy/pasting informative blog posts into new threads of his own.

I found this user kidsuzudn posted a really off topic reply in a thread, seems suspicious so I checked his past posts. He was copying info from different sites (reddit, the merkle, etc.) and posting here in the forum:

Copied [Archive]:
Think of the word "awesome" - it generally correlates with positive sentiments (except in situations where awesome is used in its original meaning, then it's more neutral). Adding a "not" in front or behind the word "awesome" changes the sentiment of the phrase.
You can do sentiment analysis without using a NLP pipeline - there is no need to extract POS-tags, entities or dependencies if you have no need for them. In fact, you can just take a bunch of word vectors, and then average them over a sentence. Then softmax said average vector to your classes, and you'd get a very servicable sentiment analysis that would work 90% of the time. If you go down this path, I suggest using facebook's fasttext library which is..fast, and covers a lot of the challenges I mention below.

Original from Reddit: http://archive.is/P6CT6#selection-1999.0-2003.516

Copied [Archive]:
On paper, one could argue Bitcoin is better than any other cryptocurrency, token, or digital asset because those other offerings would not be around, were it not for Bitcoin. In this regard, the popular cryptocurrency has a leg up over any other currency in existence. Bitcoin will always be the first “major” cryptocurrency, and it has been around for 9 years now. Ethereum, on the other hand, only came to market a few years ago.
That being said, Ethereum offers some interesting pieces of technology. Smart contracts have been quite a revolutionary technology, although the same concept will be part of the Bitcoin protocol soon. Bitcoin has a disturbing lack of decentralized application possibilities, which makes Ethereum seem “better” in this regard. Then again, there is no “major” decentralized application in existence to be embraced by mainstream society either. Ethereum has a technological edge over Bitcoin, but until it is used by the masses, it is a matter of semantics.

Original from themerkle.com: http://archive.is/ZVMSk#selection-995.0-1011.467

Copied [Archive]:
SegWit transactions take less space, are chaper and SegWit block is max 2gb. SegWit allows lightning network that makes transactions extra cheap and fast. We don't need any other increases in blocksize, because we have to keep bitcoin decentralized and runnable at any home PC. So we have to save space. The issue is the precedent, not the 2MB increase. Miners cannot be allowed to hard fork without the users' support. 2MB may be fine but if we accept the precedent, then we'll have 8/16/32MB blocks soon, and maybe eventually inflation.

I have seen a lot of users copy/pasting posts, but i dont understand what is the real purpose of that, why do they copy other users's posts, they are too lazy to write, and most of them are in a signature campaign, so they dont even take the effort to write their own posts, this is a shame.. I saw a lot of this cases, i always report them to a moderator, but it is good to see that here is a post to report those users, i will post in here when i see one of those guys copy pasting again.

Just caught this guy copy pasting.  I'm on my phone and can't copy the original source easily, but you can verify that it's from a google book or some such thing.  I caught another one right after this too.  These people are morons.

Edit: Thank you, DaddyMonsi.

Not all investors want to take on the risk that comes with making a killing through stocks. Some people just want to invest in the stock market as a means of providing a steady income. They don’t need stock values to go through the ceiling. Instead, they need stocks that perform well consistently. If your purpose for investing in stocks is to create income, you need to choose stocks that pay dividends. Dividends are typically paid quarterly to stockholders on record as of specific dates. How do you know if the dividend you’re being paid is higher (or lower) than other vehicles (such as bonds)?
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DIVIDENDS AND INTEREST
Don’t confuse dividends with interest. Most people are familiar with interest because that’s how you grow your money over the years in the bank. The important difference is that interest is paid to creditors, and dividends are paid to owners (meaning shareholders — and if you own stock, you’re a shareholder because shares of stock represent ownership in a publicly traded company). When you buy stock, you buy a piece of that company. When you put money in a bank (or when you buy bonds), you basically loan your money. You become a creditor, and the bank or bond issuer is the debtor; as such, it must eventually pay your money back to you with interest.

Just caught this one, which is copied from an investopedia article:

Buy at low price and sell at high price. This is expected of all investors but it is difficult to execute. It is easy to say whether a certain price is low or high in retrospect, but in the moment, it is monumentally difficult. Prices affect the psychology and emotions of market participants. Traders and investors must have a certain objective method to determine if prices are high or low. Humans are conditioned to follow the crowd. There is inherent difficulty in consistently buying low and selling high. When prices are low, sentiment tends to be overwhelmingly negative towards a stock. Many bullish holders are forced to dump their shares. Similarly, when price is high, it is difficult to conceive of letting go of a winner.

It's not a new rule. You copy and paste because you obviously can't speak English very well and this isn't going to magically improve anytime soon. Your account wont be unbanned.

Yeah, right.  You stole content that you probably barely understood yourself, based on your piss-poor English, and...eait, what's your excuse again?

Hopefully for us, you can kiss bitcointalk goodbye. Permanently.

This is also the wrong place for a ban appeal.

But at the stickled topic about the forum rules , there are no rules like this. This rule was just made by a member in a topic which isn't stickled at all. An now it becomed a rule ? I can't speak English very well but i CAN SPEAK ENGLISH and you are totally understand me as well. You should at least notice this rule in the forum rules for members, who are managed by these rules , to know about it. And about speaking English, you are racist sir. You understand what am i talking to you right ?

This is a forum and RULES should be at least NOTICE in FORUM RULES which is STICKLED at the top of the META THREAD. But is this forum playing the JUNGLE RULES for now ?Cause that what i'm seeing for now. Rules = Law. You can do things which isn't prohibited in the RULES ( Law). And I'm sorry but not all people in the world are well-teaching like you, Mr.Racist. Racism is what i saw in your words. In my world, i have to learn english by myself cause there aren't good-looking teachers holding your hand and teach you everything , mate. You have a luckily, you should be appreciated for your fate, not racist others who aren't like you cause their conditions are bad.

Nobody cares.  I'm not the one who had to resort to thievery.

I don't even know what race you are.  Stop babbling and get lost.  There shouldn't have to be a written rule that you can't copy content and pass it off as your own AND get paid for it.  Honest people don't do that.

I can barely understand you. I shouldn't have to spend time trying to decipher what you say. You obviously didn't read or understand the rules because it states in these two stickies that it's not allowed:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=703657.0
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1684035.0

It should be pretty obvious to anyone that cheating by plagarising content is not acceptable.

And please stop playing the race card. You not being able to speak English doesn't make people racist. This is an English speaking board and you got caught for cheating your signature campaign. End of discussion.

This rule was just made by a member in a topic which isn't stickled at all. An now it becomed a rule

Up for debate: tigaasayosa opened two threads just copy/pasting a long (high quality) article, including a (shortened) link to the source. I would classify the rest of his posts as shitposting.

Copy:
If you want to know what is Bitcoin, how you can get it and how it can help you, without floundering into technical details, this guide is for you. It will explain how the system works, how you can use it for your profit, which scams to avoid. It will also direct you to resources that will help you store and use your first pieces of digital currency.

Copy:
On June 12, 2017, an Ethereum based called Bancor held its ICO. It raised $153 million in 3 hours. No, you are not reading it wrong, 153 million…..in 3 hours!!!

If that doesn’t get your brain melting, then how about this? The BAT ICO $35 million in 30 seconds!!! That’s near $1.2 million per second! And if that still doesn’t get your jaw dropping, then how about this? Have you heard of UET? UET had an ICO which raised $40,000 in just 3 days. Admirable if not particularly mind-blowing. Why do we bring it up after talking about Bancor and BAT?

Well, UET stands for “Useless Ethereum Token”, it is a “joke coin”.

Newbie satish37 made a new thread with copied content. It's  not in the Press section, doesn't have a reference, and doesn't have any discussion value.

Copy:
The University of Melbourne, a public Australian university, has become the first academic institution in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region to issue recipient-owned academic credentials on a blockchain.

Following an early pilot first revealed in May, the University of Melbourne is now storing and issuing student records on a blockchain where recipients will be able to access their academic credentials on a mobile application. The open-source mobile app, available for iOS and Android, will facilitate students to store and share their academic credentials, the university announced.

Professor Gregor Kennedy, pro-vice chancellor of teaching and learning at the university revealed the institution is “very excited that its exploration of a new way of providing students with credentials was successful.”.

He added:

While we are entirely committed to existing degrees and awards that the University offers, we are also interested in exploring how we can build a more diverse credentialing ecosystem…Issuing credentials on the blockchain is a key component of this investigation.

I stumbled upon one piece of text thas has been copied by many different ("different"?) users. Two of (not shown below) them were banned in recent modlog, the rest I can't check.

Copied by stevemic:
The Buying process of Bitcoins will have to be made much more simpler than it is at present. All indications point that the process will get more streamlined, so buying bitcoins will be an easy task.

Copied by risk91:

Copied by doublebit21:
No one knows for sure (with any degree of certainty). Having said that, most agree the future is bright. That statement does have a few caveats. The Buying process of Bitcoins will have to be made much more simpler than it is at present. In most countries (US included), companies that trade Bitcoins onto the local currency would be regulated. More exchange companies will mushroom.

Copied by viiriinika:
The Buying process of Bitcoins will have to be made much more simpler than it is at present. All indications point that the process will get more streamlined, so buying bitcoins will be an easy task... I think so

Copied by Rude Boy:
Bitcoin itself as a protocol will evolve. Many people forget the simple fact that it is a protocol first and the money part just happens to be the first app written over it. Think of it like the Netscape browser written for (predominantly) HTTP. It was good at its time, but then other browsers took the mantle and Netscape was dethroned. The same analogy
could apply to bitcoins (the money). It could be dethroned and for all we know Dogecoin or Litecoin could prevail.
The Buying process of Bitcoins will have to be made much more simpler than it is at present. All indications point that the process will get more streamlined, so buying bitcoins will be an easy task.

User homculus should be banned. He got my attention copy/pasting totally off-topic post:

Copy:
Nah, you do not have to worry about your BTC getting halved or that it will somehow be reduced to create these other coins.

I think there are a lot of people who are getting this wrong and are totally confused with all the FUD that are being spread.

Your original bitcoins are safe, just keep the private key secret and wait for the fork. After the fork, you will have coins from

the new fork too... You can sell or keep those coins, if you have sole control over your private key. Some people store their

bitcoins in services where these services have control over your private key and they can decide what they want to do with

those forked coins.

User sivagananathan copy/pasted two posts:

Copy:
When data compression is used in a data transmission application, the goal is speed. Speed of transmission depends upon the number of bits sent, the time required for the encoder to generate the coded message and the time required for the decoder to recover the original ensemble. In a data storage application,Although the degree of compression is the primary concern,it is nonetheless necessary that the algorithm be efficient in order for the scheme to be practical.

Copy:
As discussed in the Introduction, data compression has wide application in terms of information storage, including representation of the abstract data type string and file compression.Huffman coding is used for compression in several file archival systems [ARC 1986; one of the adaptive schemes to be discussed in Section 5.An adaptive Huffman coding technique is the basis for the compact command of the UNIX operating system.
one could expect to see even greater use of variable-length coding in the future.

I think this is the right place for my post to be in

So why this user hasn't been banned yet? I reported him two days ago, and today I see this dude posting again, wtf. I don't particularly care if someone copies someone else's posts (though this doesn't in the least mean that I commend such practice in any possible way), but this is certainly not the case when my own posts get copy-pasted. See below the offending post:

I'm sorry but you grow to be incorrect not only in your findings, however in your premises too, wtf. Naturally, you can produce a appropriate result by offsetting one error with another, but you insist so much around the correctness of the math applied (as though it could fix issues or allow you to escape, huh), so you really haven't any choice within this element. I mean the projection for a century you pointed out, not your theoretical instance, of course (you will not get away with that either)Which is b . s . now, so we do not have to hold back 100 years to really observe that with this personal eye

And here is mine from the same thread:

I'm sorry but you turn out to be wrong not only in your conclusions, but in your premises too, wtf. Naturally, you could produce a correct result by offsetting one error with another, but you insist so much on the correctness of the math applied (as if it could fix things or let you get away, huh), so you really don't have any choice in this aspect. I mean the projection for one hundred years you mentioned, not your hypothetical example, of course (you won't get away with that either)

Which happens to be bullshit now, so we don't have to wait a hundred years to actually see that with our own eyes

Shouldn't this user get an instant permaban too?

@deisik: Yes, PastEraser should be banned. It's the worst type of shitposter, editing a copy just enough to make it very hard to find the original post.
I'm impressed you found this copy from a post 1.5 years back!

Jr. Member GOODNESS https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1207459

The Bitcoin 0.15.1 released is for an improved and more efficient safety and network enhancement. This release focuses on the safety of the P2P network as a precaution against potential future network forks, as well as bringing bug fixes, optimizations and improvements to the 0.15.x series. There are changes in the way Bitcoin Core deals with peer connections and invalid block as a safety precaution against blockchain forks and misbehaving peers.Peers which provide a chain with less work than the minimum-chain-work during IBD will now be disconnected.

Apart from the first sentence copied from the official release statement https://bitcoincore.org/en/2017/11/11/release-0.15.1/

A file can be corrupt in two ways:

In case 2 you can NOT ask for extern help by handing out a copy of the file since you can not hand over the harddrive index and cluster build.

Deutsche Bank has issued a market briefing for 2018. The document, created by Chief International Economist Torsten Slok, lists 30 possible threats that could disrupt global markets next year. While some institutional investors see bitcoin as an opportunity, many more consider it a threat.

gave a warning to raaner12  to knock it off.
That didn't stop him:
This weekend on December 10, the Chicago Board Options Exchange (Cboe) began its first trading sessions. Since then the introduction of bitcoin-based derivatives held on a well-known mainstream exchange, the news has injected a surge of positivity into bitcoin’s spot markets. Moreover, the price of Cboe’s futures products has been trading wildly starting off at the $15K mark and has reached an all-time high of $18,650.

Over the Past Two Days, Cboe’s XBT Markets and Bitcoin’s Spot Prices See Wild Fluctuations
Two Days of Cboe's Bitcoin Futures Show Intense Volume Fluctuations Cboe’s bitcoin-based futures one-month bitcoin contract (XBT:1) started trading this past Sunday, and is currently up over 8 percent higher than bitcoin’s spot price. BTC spot markets have been on a tear leading up to the mainstream derivatives products with a global average hovering between the $16,900-17,200 region. Cboe’s futures products are a different animal and contracts are cash-settled based on the BTC price data provided Gemini in U.S. dollars. These exchange-traded derivatives products are bets on the future price of bitcoin and investors wager on whether the value will be high or low. If the price of bitcoin rises or dips, the contract holder is paid out based on how much the value has climbed or dropped within a specified time-frame.

This user copypasted my post, on the next post right underneath it!  Looks like a bot, an exceptionally stupid bot:

will address the latter first, since it is a technical issue.  Any selection of characters for such an application will always involve tradeoffs of excluding worse confusable pairs, whilst regrettably tolerating some less confusable pairs.  Of course, making that distinction cannot be what I’d call an exact science.  BIP 173 set forth its rationale on this point; do you have any objective reason to contradict the research it cites?

My post:

I will address the latter first, since it is a technical issue.

I will hit the “Report to moderator” button also, of course.  (I have reported >100 posts in the past few weeks, with 100% accuracy.)  I post here to request nuking from orbit.

Aside, I wish I had discovered this thread before.  I reported a number of copypastes, with links to websites copied.  I don’t know if those accounts were banned, as they should have been.

Thanks to mods for their efforts shovelling garbage out of a landfill with a spoon, as the garbage trucks continue to arrive.

There's a deletion log here somewhere which will show you all the recent bans and trashed threads. 100 reports in a few weeks is massive though! I think I recall shorena & Lutpin being the biggest reporters on the forum and I don't think they even averaged 100 reports every few weeks.

Two of (not shown below) them were banned in recent modlog, the rest I can't check.
what is the link for this modlog? I'm curious to see how many users got banned daily Cheesy
I reported a copy paste user, that single post was removed but he still posting today
so do I need to report every single copy paste posts he made?
I clearly mentioned in the first report that many of this user's posts were copy pasted from other published sources

Officially, copy/pasting should be banned. Unfortunately, you don't get feedback on reported posts, that's why I prefer to post the ones that deserve a ban here. I use the report-link for posts that should be deleted or moved only.

P2SH Segwit Addresses

All current and future segwit-enabled wallets are expected to generate receiving addresses that start with the number 3 when generating segwit addresses. Addresses that start with the number 3 are known as pay-to-script-hash (P2SH) addresses.

Edit:  Mods completely nuked both these users as I was typing this post, which prophetically concludes:  “Mods, please beat me to it!”  Props to the mods here.

What adds insult to the injury of copypasting, is copypasting nonsense.  Both these posts were deleted by mods almost instantly after I reported them.  They were consecutive in the same thread (which itself seems spammish).

Please consider some bans here.  uid #1367288 “quynhanh9c” (here the one copied) mostly/only makes one-liner nonsense posts.  uid #1433133 “lamsersanjay” (here the copier) seems similar—and copypastes nonsense, which should be doubly nuke-account-on-sight.

Hey, guys, don't you think you are a bit overdoing this?

Why don't you stop and think for a moment that there are only 26 letters (well, that depends on the alphabet you are using) and these are the same letters we all use. What the fuck, we even use the same words and phrases or even whole sentences now and then ("insult to the injury", yeah). These are idioms as well as golden thoughts said by wise people which allow you to express your idea without delving into pesky details. Should we avoid using them lest we get caught by some nut and reported to a mod?

A newbie’s first post (uid #1563170; preserved evidence) copypasted verbatim from The Register:

As far as defeating hashcash goes, the numbers are daunting for quantum computer designers: by 2028, the researchers reckon, you'd need a 4.4 million qubit machine to achieve 13.8 gigahashes per second: “This is more than one thousand times slower than off the shelf ASIC devices which achieve hash rates of 14TH/s”.

Shor's algorithm, a quantum algorithm for factoring integers (that's how it would attack cryptography), is a better path, they write.

Deploying a quantum computer against the secp256k1 elliptic curve Bitcoin uses is much more dangerous: if the signature is cracked, the scheme is completely insecure, and attackers can plant fake transactions and steal Bitcoin.

As with cracking the proof-of-work, the researchers assume quantum computers get big and fast relatively quickly, and even so, they fall slightly short: with a 10 GHz clock rate, around half a million qubits, and a low enough error rate of 10-1 could crack the signature in 30 minutes.

That's close enough to make Bitcoin's critical 10-minute rate “highly insecure”, so the authors recommend the Bitcoin protocol be migrated to a post-quantum signature scheme.

Copypaster didn’t even bother to fix the “10-1”.  Of course, this was in a totally irrelevant thread (“Re: Brainwallet history”).

As I got it, the mods didn't nuke them

Just posts were deleted and that was likely a right decision given they are totally useless and meaningless (but who am I to discuss mods here after all), but this is surely not enough to nuke the user(s) altogether. We don't know the exact reasons why there were two consecutive, mostly identical posts by two (presumably) different people. In fact, there can be a lot of reasons beyond evil intent. For example, sometimes you submit the same post twice and have to delete one of them provided you ever notice duplicate posts. And yep, it looks pretty much like you are making mountains out of molehills in this case. It is a minor offense, so I have to stand by what I said earlier. Are you looking to become a moderator yourself in the future?

Whilst wading through an old thread of morbidly fascinating stupidity-train wreckage about “brainwallets”, I discovered that tinhyeumaunang uid #937704 (then Brand New; now Member) had the utter gall to copypaste a forum moderator’s post in its entirety—2 minutes, 14 seconds after registering that account:

It is highly NOT RECOMMENDED to use brainwallets. Humans are a horrendously low source of entropy. There are multiple research papers and programs that show that brainwallets are horribly insecure and easily cracked as what you think is a strong password probably is not a strong password.

BIP 38 paper wallets will not be particularly helpful here. It only protects against someone stealing your paper wallet and trying to get the keys. BIP 38 does not protect against someone just guessing the password you used to create your brainwallet.

I hope that I have here caused the nuking of an bad account which would have value on the account-sale market.

Are you looking to become a moderator yourself in the future?

That’s bait; but I’ll bite, because I think you misunderstand the glory of being a moderator.

My reporting stats currently say this:  “You have reported 139 posts with 100% accuracy”.  That is since I started actively engaging the forum on 1 December 2017 (though I did about 70 of those in one hours-long binge).  So yes, sometimes I get in the mood to help out and clean up some of the trash around here.

But I would be not be jumping for joy at the prospect of making a commitment to take responsibility day in, day out for a task tantamount to emptying a landfill with a spoon—as the garbage trucks keep rolling in.  A rotten, thankless task, which elicits replies such as yours hereinabove:  “Why don't you stop and think for a moment...  What the fuck... ...lest we get caught by some nut [C’est moi!]...”  I see mods get that guff all the time.  Not that I think they give a damn about such opinions, and neither do I; but also, I so rarely see them receive a simple “thank you” for efforts without which the forum would be totally useless.

Now, this discussion has gone way off-topic in a quite useful thread; thus unless something pertinent or at least interesting be said by you in reply, I will not reply to you further.

P.S.:  Thanks, mods.

The DAG uses each transaction on its “chain” to solve the ones before it, as more transactions go on the quicker the solution is found.
Byteball distributed their initial “Bytes” back in 2016 via cashback partnerships with merchants and distributing certain amounts dependent on the amount of BTC in an account. This has resulted in a headstart in the market instead of, what has become the industry standard, creating an ICO and hoping for the best.Beyond this, Byteball is offering smart contracts similar in vein to what Ethereum offers. They have even further expanded on the capabilities of these contracts for use in betting on sports events or political elections as well.

In general the whole idea behind creation of alternative model of exchanging value between humans was to be independent of monetary system as we know it. If there is no usability in reality and if that interaction cost more then in monetary system, what would be the purpose in a first place, and then why would anyone do that if it cost him/her more then usually?

What is Bitcoin worth today?

Bitcoin, on January 5, 2018, was worth $14,953.99 (£11,016.84) just after 8am.

The currency has dipped slightly since yesterday, when it closed at $14,991.16 (£11,062.43).

This comes months after its price exceeded the value of an ounce of gold for the first time – then about £940.

But investors are worried by the currency's volatile nature and the market's inability to cope with sudden shifts in demand.

An eBay executive told Yahoo Finance the tech giant is "seriously considering" accepting bitcoin payments after its recent success.

Although Scott Cutlor, senior vice president of eBay Americas said they're "not quite there yet", his consideration indicates how fast the cryptocurrency is permeating the mainstream.

User For_Canal_Coins caught my attention by posting something other than a question on Bitcoin Technical Support.

Copy:
What is the Lightning Network?

The Lightning Network is a system of smart contracts built on top of the base Bitcoin blockchain that allows for fast, cheap payments directly between two parties.

On a technical level, the Lightning Network is built on payment channels, which were envisioned by Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto in the early days of the project’s development. The basic idea here is that two people put some bitcoin into a multisig address and then sign transactions that alter the amount of bitcoin each party is able to redeem. The payment channel can be closed by either party at any time, and the last-signed transaction with the most up-to-date balances for both parties is the one that will be broadcasted and included in the Bitcoin blockchain.

From a less-technical perspective, the Lightning Network's use of payment channels effectively allows users to transact with each other directly rather than broadcasting their business to the entire world. By tracking their payments between each other on their own, the two parties are able to avoid expensive and time-consuming interactions with the blockchain. If there is some sort of dispute regarding balances on the Lightning Network, either party can send the last valid state signed by both parties to the blockchain, which acts as a sort of automated judge that cannot be corrupted or bribed. In other words, nobody can cheat or fudge the numbers.

With the Lightning Network, users are able to transact with anyone who is connected to their network of payment channels through multiple hops. It’s a network of payment channels rather than a way of enabling faster transactions between only two parties.

The key benefits of the Lightning Network include: drastically lower fees, instant payments (avoiding Bitcoin’s ten minute confirmation times), and the potential for improved privacy since these transactions are not stored in a public ledger forever.

Newbie tiffanywalsh is copying random old texts and should be banned.

Copy (one of many):
Lets first analyze Litecoin. It is different from Bitcoin in 3 major ways. It runs under a different algorithm, the block speed is much faster, but the network power is not as strong as the one of bitcoin. Back in the good ol days Litecoin was peaking at $45, but what happened now? The simplest explanation is that the hype died. Litecoin was hyped to be ASIC resistant with it’s Scrypt mining algorithm and because the confirmation arrive much faster it seemed like an improvement upon bitcoin. However, we have since seen the release of the GridSeed which is an ASIC miner for litecoin. The release of the ASIC miner ruins the hype that litecoin is in fact ASIC resistant because GridSeed proves otherwise.

The other hype that surrounded litecoin was it’s faster transaction speeds and how it must be a better network. Wrong, just because a block can be solved faster and the confirmations arrive faster does not mean that the network is faster. Think of it this way, litecoin’s blocks take 2.5 minutes to be solved on average, and bitcoin blocks take 10 minutes to be solved. So in other words, 4 litecoin confirmations = 1 bitcoin confirmation security wise. So just because a confirmation arrived earlier does not mean that the transaction is just as secure as that of a longer arriving confirmation (hope that made sense).

So since litecoin is not asic proof and faster transaction speeds do not equal the same security, the hype has died. There is no real use for litecoin now because it is just another version of bitcoin with a few differences. It falls in the category of all the other litecoins which do not have any significant difference or improvements.

Newbie Redlove is using some good stuff. I don't know what it is, but I want some too for my party!

I'm pretty sure he's copy/pasting after changing some words, but I can't prove it. Either way, he posts totally random off-topic text:

Example 1:
In 2012, the Cryptocuren Legal Advocacy Group emphasized the importance of taxpayers to determine whether the taxpayers depend on a bitcoin-related transaction that has received a "implementation event": When a service is provided by the taxpayer in Bitcoin, an implementation event Perhaps no benefit or use of the fair market value for the paid and paid services The loss will probably be counted.

Example 2:
Bitcoin's future will definitely get brighter. Because,Bitcoin takes parity with US dollar.basically stable, again slowly rising.

Example 3:
From my watchlist, it can be said that
In 2013, the German Finance Minister Bitcoin has been described as a unit of account, if it is mentioned that in multi-yearly clearing circles it is usable and capitalized.

Please end his posting career.

Update: I found evidence:
Copy:
On 5 December 2013, the People's Bank of China announced in a press release regarding bitcoin regulation that whilst individuals in China are permitted to freely trade and exchange bitcoins as a commodity,
it is prohibited for Chinese financial banks to operate using bitcoins or for bitcoins to .

be used as legal tender currency, and that entities dealing with bitcoins must track and report suspicious activity to prevent money laundering .
The value of bitcoin dropped on various exchanges between 11 and 20 percent following the regulation announcement, before rebounding upward again.

Newbie Mark R. Slater posted this totally off-topic collection of outdated data:

5 or 10 years is not a road, it probably goes 5 or 10 years
Bitcoin prices are likely to exceed $ 100,000 over the next 10 years, up nearly 36 times from the recent peak of $ 2,780. That's from analyst Kay Van-Petersen, who predicted exactly the momentum of this virtual currency this year.

In December of the same year, Saxo Bank (Denmark) published its annual report called "Outrageous Predictions." One of the predictions is that the bitcoin price will reach $ 2,000 in 2017. By the time the report was released, bitcoin traded at $ 754. Five months later, bitcoin reached $ 2,000 on May 20, 1977, an increase of 165%.

Now, the prediction is that Kay Van-Petersen is looking at the long term and thinks bitcoin will continue to appreciate.

I can't find an exact copy, it looks like it was rewritten from for example https://finance.yahoo.com/news/bitcoin-could-hit-100-000-051325607.html .
