Mining in Hot and Humid Weather (Cooling Costs)

How prohibitive is it to mine in hot and humid weather?

Let's say our location is 90 degrees F (about 32 C) and very humid.

Our costs are 10 cents per kwh and our facility is running 100kw of mining equipment.

The monthly cost of electricity on our mining equipment would be 100kw * 720 (kwh in month) * .1 (price of electricity) = $7,200

1. How much extra do you estimate would it cost to adequately cool the facility?

2. What do you estimate is the monthly cooling cost for the same amount of mining equipment, the same electricity cost, but the weather is 60 degrees F and very dry?

Also, immersion cooling is not allowed.

How big is the place? Do you have Windows? You need to blow fresh air in and the hot air out. Maybe you need air condition. You have to test it

If you have to use anything other than fans and/or swamp cooling (not possible with your humidity) you have already lost.

90F is still low enough for a "fresh air" design.

There was one guy here JoshV06 who had over 150 mining units in Houston, Texas which is as hot and humid as it gets.  

It looks like he went out of business though.  

The location I'm considering wouldn't be as bad as Houston.

If you're talking about cost of cooling you must be talking about air conditioning. Humidity matters with AC.
With fresh air cooling humidity doesn't matter. Your biggest challenge with fresh air cooling is air circulation.
An ambient tempterature of 32C is ok if you can exhaust the heat well. A couple of box fans is a lot cheaper
than AC.

I haven't done the math but the cost of air conditioning will probably kill any profit potential.

I can guarantee that the cost of AC does not kill profitability. I keep my cards very cool with a dedicated air conditioner and when I move it out of the house and into a small warehouse space I will be starting with a 30 ton liebert CRAC unit that control the humidity and can easily hand the 15 or so rigs I am going to have as I start. Right now I am at 5 rigs and that is the max i can run in my house right now. Keeping them very cool has the added benefit of longevity and also an extra 5-10% hashing than you would not get if ambient temperatures are high. So far my air conditioner adds about 20% to the electricity cost to run the rigs but they also run more effectively and at temperatures in the 40-50's. Its worth it if you have the money to do it.
