BTC and USD are both fairly anonymous currencies (neither is perfectly anonymous). The government creates black markets, and black markets require anonymity. Anything that grants that is likely going to be used on those black markets.

Anonymous? Like it was not recognized or unknown to many people? Are you really sure of that? It is USD! American dollar or United States Dollar. It is impossible that it is anonymous. But I agree with you that it can be used on drug market. |

Anonymous? Like it was not recognized or unknown to many people? Are you really sure of that? It is USD! American dollar or United States Dollar. It is impossible that it is anonymous. But I agree with you that it can be used on drug market. Anonymous in the sense that it will have no record for a transaction, when done via cash. If its done through online, its definitely not hidden. And BTC is not kind of anonymous as if the government wants, they can track down, but ofcourse it can be averted by many ways. |

Maybe he is talking about the other anonymity here, like when you send a cash to another person maybe meeting up in a place and doing the transaction. But still, there is no way a US dollar will be anonymous, if it is anonymous, then why government can still track transactions happening. In bitcoin too, they can still track it but in the different way. |

The USD is doubtless used for the most illegal activities in the world, but other currencies are used as well for illegal activities. The government can prohibit what they want, illegal activities will always exist and in most times paid in cash.

You mean illegal transactions. US dollars or other fiats are being the payment of their activities and if they want a little bit of anonymity, they use bitcoin. And yes, illegal activities will always exist to balance the world. We can't just leave at peace because that will be really making the world not balanced. Though US dollars are not that used because it always depends on the country, and if another country will be paying another country, they will use a currency that has a higher value than US dollar. |

All currencies are subject to be used in illegal activities like drug dealing, funding terrorism, illegal arms dealing etc. I believe its one of the most abused things in the world, existence of money creates more evil and greedy people but not all.
Even cryptocurrencies are prone to abusive use and people doing evil things more like it, they took advantage and benefit from its anonymity and limitless transactions.

Every currency is similar to a double edged knife. It has got the good side as well the bad part. It is how we make use of it, and interestingly bitcoin's initial days were much used for illegal transactions. Now this has changed a lot. As you said, the currencies or even all the things has a bad side and good side. Even bitcoin and other currencies like USD is being used in illegal transactions but even until now the usage of bitcoin in illegal transactions are still high because it is anonymous so the authorities will have a hard time in tracing them which is an advantage for the people who want to be anonymous in transacting illegal possessions. |

I didn't saw this thread, and I'm going trough comments and I'm a bit surprised that discussion about this is last so much. Everyone and everything can be used for illegal activities and for evil agendas, nothing is immune. That is the logic, can someone explain me how can plant's that grows from the ground can be illegal? Who is that man that gave so much power to himself to claim something like that? Legal and illegal is in the end one man opinion. It doesn't represent what is good and bad in reality, I don't agree with many laws in this world, most of them are stupid and without any sense.

It is not surprising that the dollar is a strong currency and recognized by all countries in the world, so it is not surprising that it is used in illegal activities, so countries should strengthen their control over the dollar. Well aren't we being a little bit racist (in money), as we all know currency has two main use; first is payment and second is income. We pay for a thing or for a service that we wanted or we needed, and income we receive fiat in exchange of a specific item or a service. You mentioned the government's control over the strength of dollars, but its the fault is on the humans, there will always be reasons behind these illegal activities. |
