The first thing you have to do before invest your money in an altcoin is know well the altcoin you choose. Read the Whitepaper, how's the business plan, roadmap, who is behind that coin, anything about it. And use your own due diligence to analyze how good is that coin to invest on short or long term. You can't rely on others people analysis.

Go with tested coins to be on a safer side, Golem, Factom, Maid, LTC, and others from top 20 at coinmarketcap can also be good options, but remember to buy when the price is settled around some value, don't buy on pumps.

Altcoins werr trying their best to not slip away in bitcoin, so they trying to improve services and putting efforts on making alt value higher ,so eventually they can attract more users which still good to invest too especially it shows good development ,we just need to find effective alt.

Researching on your own and investing based on the analyzation is the best way. Dont put everything at once into altcoins as there is no definitive prediction. Start with small and try to hold the coins which you have and continue to buy the one which is showing potential.

Eth (etherum) etc (etherum classic) XMR (monero) bcn (byte coin) DGB (digibye)
These coins have the potential to increase value in the coming time. You can refer to the type of coin if you intend to invest long term.

I have made a mistake when I started this journey of investing in altcoin by not following due process ,I bought some coin during pump and they dump,I could not make any gain even when I was waiting thinking another pump will emerge,I end up waiting and sold some coins with great loss but today my 96dollars investment have rose to 130dollars and this is not bad for a newbie,just make your own analysis and invest wisely.goodluck

I would advice you not to get into any coins listed on exchange currently because the market has pumped, divide your capital into five parts and look for 5 good projects that you believe in.
