Whoever posted that article on Reddit is a liar or a complete idiot. I use a kill-a-watt meter to measure actual power usage. This is from running it standalone as a secondary psu with just the vega 64 (primary psu powers mobo etc so my killawatt meter is just measuing nothing but the vega 64 and it's own internal usage which is less than 10 watts). Anywho, Vega 64 pulls over 350 watts from the wall. Dual mining over 400.  The idiot that posted the Reddit article must have been only looking at the gpuz measure and all the INTELLIGENT folks here understand that gpuz power reading is NOT THE TOTAL POWER DRAWN BY THE GPU CARD.  it's only a small fraction of it.  So, like I said, vega 64 pulls over 300 under normal mining and 400 dual mining. If idiot Reddit poster is running many GPU's then Idiot Reddit poster will probably burn his house down if he hasn't already by overloading the circuits since it's clear he doesn't understand real electrical power draws.

don't run your card on stock setting, you need heavy downvolt to achieve low power consumption. Don't call others idiots if it is you who cannot make right gpu tuning.

Vega 64 = 300 watt = 40 MHS

2x rx580 = 340 watt = 54 MHS

Corrrect

but for other altcoins - vega not good?

Vega is only good if you will dual mine with it. Overly superior up to 4x than rx 570. So in the end if Vega hits by miracle 50 then it may be better than 2 rx 570.

Not correct, Vega consumes only 150-180w for 40-43mh eth. You need to run it at 1000/1100@0.78v

Is there any hard facts about this series yet? I'm sure AMD knows that mining is starting to become a much larger share than pc gaming. Otherwise the old Tahiti gpu would not still be selling for up to 80% of its price in 2013 on Ebay.

I think the Vega is not as good value as the 1070 or 1080 in terms of efficiency.

Why??
maybe is better in long term from 1080 and 1070 and 1080 TI

Anyone have information when they will start selling Non-refernce /AIB or whatever they call them,  Vega cards? e.g ROG Strix RX VEGA 64

Most in Europe is 8GB Sapphire Radeon RX Vega 64 Aktiv PCIe 3.0 x16

130 watt and 43.5 mh

Best results
maybe with next drivers Hashrate up to 50-60 Mhs

max 60 mhs is real for Vega 64

They all get 43.5 only for small DAG currencies.
They are gettin 38-40 with ethereum.
They are not using blockchain drivers.
My results aren't so good in terms of power (160-200watt) but give 44.2 with ETH.

It is single mode.
Dual mode needs more voltage to be stable and consumes 280-300watt. it is 43eth+220lbc
It is with blockchain drivers.
With 17.8.2 I was getting 41+200 at 240-260 watt
It was with win 7. With win10 and 17.8.2 I was getting only 38+200 (((

Need some time for further tuning ... but only when my air Vega will arrive.

Do  you think it is more efficient than the RX 580 in terms of power consumption?

In single mode - no, until we have new miner or driver with promised 50+ mhs.
In dual mode - maybe ... but again ... current buggy blockchain drivers won't let you downvolt to 800mV keeping good speed ... so I think currently polaris cards are better even in dual mode.
see: vega is 43eth+220lbc@300watt. Good polaris can do 30eth+90lbc with 130-150watt

Just wanted to share some thoughts about the XFX Vega 64 cards .
I was able to get stable results mining Ethash 44 Mh/s, Cryptonight 2010 h/s drawing 160w give or take.
But, man, what do you guys do with all that heat coming from it. I can heat all my house with with just 4 of these cards. They produce heat more then the other 3 rigs I have (580x8). And noise, they are ridiculous loud at 2500rpm. Is it a general issue for all reference cards? Do you things there will be  more efficient new designs?

160W is 160W.

If you compare it with two 580s, I'm sure they turn more than 160W together into heat.
