The only reason you'd buy monero at this point is if you hate money. Yeah, it'll survive, but so will it's more ethical and equally private competitors. And then you've got this circlejerk of morons convincing themselves and each other that the no one profited from the stunt fluffy pulled and that it's actually a good thing. Because nothing says success like obliteraing your chances of getting listed on coinbase and/or partnering with a company like JP Morgan. For a coin that has such a great community surrounding it, they decided to reward the community by plunging them into shit. Lets see how it works out for them.
Straight FUD. Monero has no "more ethical" competitors. Dash is a super scam with the founder owning almost a third of all coins, it can collapse at any time and ZCash being a government funded project. So whom are you talking about? Monero has already recovered a day after the event and is worth more than before the announcement so there are actually no real effects. The only people that suffered are day traders and that is always a super risky undertaking. Nonetheless, I think Fluffys actions were mistake after thinking about it.
It's not FUD. I'm not saying Monero is a scam coin. It'a a well developed coin that I believe will make significantly less money for it's investors than rival cryptocurrencies. If you think I'm wrong in the short term or long term, give me an example of how/why XMR will rally.
And at the very least, admit that a handful of people with inside knowledge profited from this stunt.
I don't know if anybody profited with insider information. I hope not. But I see this possibility as the main problem of his stunt: It's impossible to prove that they didn't profit so it casts some doubt and bad vibes.
Monero already has rallied incredibly, just look at the last year. Nobody knows how it will go on, this goes for the entire cryptospace but I see Monero a top contender as a lot of the top 20 coins don't actually have a lot to offer (besides hype). Very few projects have devs and tech as good and solid as Monero. That should be a reason for future success.
Fungibility and anonymity are essential for realising the core values of a cryptocurrency and who are Moneros contenders in this field? Dash and Bytecoin are complete scams (this can be researched easily) and with ZCash anonymity is optional and most transactions are not anonymous which endangers the anonymity of the transactions that are supposed to be anonymous.
