You surely aware of what's happening to Ethereum today, it has a good pricing currently. And $500 is quite enough to generate a good return but it will take a couple of weeks before you will get a good profit. Also you can take the advantage of bitcoins price today, it has fall down today and it's a good chance to buy.

Now is the time I would short bitcoin and other coins like ehtereum. They are all running and growing under a hype, and the price is only dictated to be high for a short time due to that hype. Soon it will all come down once the market starts correcting.

I would invest long term for bitcoin i think is good to buy now with price dumping. Ether will be my second choice for a short trade. I also love Xem for long trade cause it also has big potential is like a sleeping giant.

I think you should make your portfolio diversified to reduce risk and increase profit. You can invest a part of investment in Bitcoin and other part in fast progressing altcoins like monero and ethereum. This will keep you safe in long run and also help you earn profits.

The amount is not less and not high, so my suggestion is instead of investing in bitcoins, you can buy some new altcoins. We have many new altcoins in the market, and they come up with good and strong technology. In future, they will become more popular. And one more thing the altcoins will not take much time to increase the price. Within 2 or 3 days the price will be double. And you can buy many coins at a time with your $500 capital amount.

but i do not think that investing 500$ dollar for a long term is such a wise decision. because 500$ is not such a good investment, and you have to wait for small investment for a long time and even after a long term you cannot make a good profit form it. therefore i will suggest your to invest your money in trading altcoin for short period of time from where you have more chances to make good profit in a short period of time.

Investing in bitcoin itself with 500$ for a long term can get a good profit. Altcoin trading is very risky and can't guarantee for sure profit. I actually started with $500, I bought ether twice with $250 each time when it was less than $10. You can see that eth is now at $160 and I have turned a total of a $900 investment into a crypto portfolio worth $8,300 as of today, with 13 different coins. I sold some ether when it was $50, $80 and $100 and used the profits to invest in other coins. I still hold 24 eth. You want to make sure to diversify and have several coins, that way if one goes down you don't lose all of your investment capital.

If I had $500 to start investing now, I would put $100 in 5 different coins that I researched and thought had good real world applications and future potential. And as I had more money I would either add to my 5 positions or start some new ones.

but holding just 500$ which is only a few satoshi cannot give you a good profit even if you hold it for some years, for investment in bitcoin you need to have good amount of investment, the pride of bitcoin is already trading above 2500 USD, but if you still want a good profit from investing 500$,  then you need to invest your money in trading altcoin, because there are some altcoins who have cheep price but have good potential to increase and give you good profit.
