Yes exactly, I just laugh when people say bitcoin price increased because of time. It's because people got interested in it more and more every year and the popularity and adoption increased the price.
To OP: holding the altcoins may get you some profit but no one can guarantee that.

So my question to all like me who have invested at the wrong time is, are we not stuck with these alts for long? Because I don't see a climb up so quickly, so either we sell and lose, or we wait for an unknown length of time.

If you want to make money then you should have patience , and have full confidence whatever the condition is .
Here is myself bought eth at 0.079btc/eth but after one day it get back to 0.068/eth , so here what is my mistake , this is only that I made buy at high .
So we always buy anything at low rate .
Don't sell until the price go high .
Keep patience if the coin get constant for long time .
In these ways we can make profit .
So always make yourself full of confidence that you are not loosing your patience  and waiting until the price get high . ( regardless of the factor that for which altcoin you invested your Bitcoin ) .

Yeah I had hundreds of ETH over a year ago when the price was real cheap. Of course all the pessimists were out in full force after the DAO hack and I sold my entire kitty for a small profit. Now look where ETH is. I can barely buy 5 tokens for the same price. Nobody can predict what the future holds in store, just HODL and pray for the best.

No we are not. There is just a correction and those alts won't take too long to pump. Take this as an opportunity to buy more alts.

It is a common thing if you try to invest in alt coin, some of the coin you mention still got a chance to go up again, you just need to be patience, alt coin market is very unstable, so if you bought the wrong coin then you will end up waiting for uncertainty, and some of the coin I bought still end up in exchanger with a very low value, even though I want to sell it, it won't give me any good amount of money, so I will just keep it and hopefully one day it can rise up again

I will do cut lost if i have made wrong positions or prediction of price, i don't know what's method investing on them.
For short term Investment or long time Investment,
because that is different ways the short term Investment you must do cut lost (trading altcoins) but if you put the money in altcoins
and takes beneficial, you must wait although for an unknown length time.

I agree, it is just correction of price to test the markets​ in my analisys it is still up trend for long time
so i am still hold the altcoins for long include bitcoins, the trend will be back to increasing again
i think bitcoins will goes to $3000 couples months later.

The only way not to lose is not to sell and wait until the completion of Bitcoin segwet after segwet market will go high and then altcoins will go up and make your coins in profit.

You have 2 choices.

1)Pull out your money with losses or maybe even a small profit if you invested smart.

2)Wait and sit it out, since the next pump/hype/raise will definitely come.

Second choice is way smarter, but your money is in until then. I'd recommend not selling like all the other hyperventilating idiots that cause the crash and hold if you don't need the money now or even buy in if you have spare money. Think in bigger cycles. Be smart if you want to make money and don't get nervous.

I agree with you, the pump and dump seems to be a cycle, I will choose the second choice since I treat this investment as a high risk investment that I can afford it to be zero.

Theese coin in which you have invested (Ripple, Nem, Decred, Maid) Looks good and decent coins its not like other crap coins so I am sure after the bitcoin segwit will be completed they will start to recover and I am sure these good coin will recover very soon so don't worry and wait for sometime it will come back to their original place where it was before. And if you have some more money try to buy more at dips if you can afford I am sure they will give you good profit. But only invest in good and solid coins.
