So what is the final speed for your undervolted 6x7970 cards?
And how low are undervolted?

A note about power consumption @wall would be sweet Smiley

Not sure. I'm limited by power supply.

So what happened now?

13.4 drivers are again limiting to 6 only?

it is impossible to do four 5970s now with newer drivers?

thx!

It shouldn't matter, really. I don't want to open a new thread.

I am thinking of a similar setup with 6 or 7 7970s but I am still confused how to go about it without windows 8. this thread is still on topic, i think.

i hate metro UI so that is why i am reluctant to try w8.

I can give you a BIOS for 7970 cards, already memory underclocked (150 Mhz) and undervolted (1.09V) and go to the dark side.
You will still need to flash the BIOS yourself.

I'd be interested in this.  Any chance you can share?

Thanks!
Share the bios? Here you go: 7970modbios.zip

Use the latest ATIFLASH for a successful flash.
Is a generic AMD bios I modified (with a hexeditor) for all my 7970 cards, using them for months.
I can not guarantee that is gonna work for all 7970 cards, so far I flashed only Sapphire, XFX and MSI cards.

Use the -f parameter to force the flash and of course make a backup of your original BIOS.

Hi, I tried it and it's working realy well....just one problem I can only mine sha256 with it for scrypt have to switch bios....is possbible to have a bios with mem from 150 to 1.500?
Or is possible use the other bios switch but without reboot?

In this case you can try a 7950 BIOS similar to your card. A standard 7950 BIOS is undervolted at 1.09V and you can set whatever value for memory.

Download one from Techpowerup.

Well shoot.

I just saw this thread. I knew of the Win8 fix about 2 weeks ago. I run the exact same board with 5x7950s, using Win8 + GUIMiner + MSI Afterburner.

Tried some of them but no one works fine....I keep yours on linux ,but for scrypt have to switch to default bios boot windows and tune with afterburner.....it's my only solution at moment

This works on win-7... it is not a win-7 issue, it is a driver/hardware/mobo issue.

The middle 16x slot NEEDS a "card present" jumper.... The card will not supply "card present" on the 1x PCI-e. (Also the 1x above it MAY need it. They are the same slot.)

Population
Slot 1 1x (card 1)
Slot 2 16x/1x (card 2)
slot 3 1x (card 3)
Slot 4 1x (empty) [This disables if anything is in the 16x slot]
slot 5 16x (card 4, with card-present jumper, HAS TO BE THE ONE YOU "SEE". {Plug your monitor into it})
slot 6 1x (card 5)
slot 7 16x (card 6)

Also note, you NEED to disable the onboard video options in bios.

Also note... You NEED a monitor or dummy-plug in slot 5, card 3... or none of the cards will be able to operate. (Dummy plug if you want to remove the monitor.)

Only one dummy plug is needed for that card, if you don't have a monitor hooked-up. (RAM is irrelevant, unless you are doing scrypt for litecoins.) I use 2GB on one stick.

I have 6GPUs running on Win7 x64, 13.1 driver. No issues.
5x 7950, and one APU. Point is, the total number of GPU in GPU-Z is 6.

Having another video card of another type has always worked, it's having 6 of the same that has been the problem.  I figured out the way to 'trick' the system but native drivers with 6 video cards still seem to be an issue.

How are you doing this?

I have MSI Z77A-G45 with newest bios
6x7970
3770k
windows 8 x64
tried with dummy plugs and without

I can only get the OS to see 5 cards.  It will see all five without doing any of those steps no problem.  But I can't get the 6th card to be visible.  I also tried using different slots, etc.  Which slots are you using?

Right now basically I am at the point of where you installed 12.6 catalyst.  But the OS will only see 5 cards so haven't gotten to the next step.

I have a monitor plugged into the first card.

dont need dummy plugs. if you followed the instructions, it would be working for you.

also driver downgrading takes a long time. Just let it do its thing and it should finish in probably the area of an hour or two. Also if you change video cards, win8 has a habit of reverting back to the 13.1 driver (or whatever you installed before) which goes back to only 5 usable cards. You need to downgrade again if this happens.

Ok I'll try it again, and I'll do a fresh install.  Hey real quick do you remember which slot you left unused?

Thanks man, greatly appreciate.   Cool

the middle one. PCI_E4. Also, PCI_E5 needs a presence short if using 1x risers, maybe for 16x too, never used 16x risers before in that board

You are the man!  It works, the presence short was definitely needed.  Forgot to mention I'm also using 1x-16x risers.

Not only does it work, this configuration has all my cards running full throttle hash and the hashrate has even gone up.  This is fantastic.  Cheesy
