Hi there,

I'm a full newbie about cryptocoins.. And I'm willing to start to mine gently with an old PC (this computer is already on 24/7 as I'm using it as a server).

I'm looking for new coins to mine but I don't know how to find which one I should start with. Bitcoin and other famous ones are too difficult to hope earning something. If I'm not wrong, I should mine a recent currency, but how to choose ??

Thanks a lot.

Adi'

... with an old PC ...

Well, that´s not that easy like you might think.
Are you going to invest some money? You need powerful GPUs to mine most of the coins.
Or big (8TB) HDD if you want to mine BURST.
Another point to consider (if you go the GPU way) are your costs for electricity ... GPUs need a LOT of power.
Give us more infos.
Just an old PC will earn you nothing  Undecided

what matter are gpu and maybe the hdd if you want to mine burstcoin, which is the only coin that can be mined with an hard disk, but gpu count more they give you better profit, if you want to mien you need to buy at least one last generation gpu such as 570/580/1060/1070

May be you will need PC for mining GPU also. When you do mining you are actually entering into a competition where big brains are already working on the same thing. They will be pulling all the hash rate and power from the pool. More confirmations will be done by those guys. On the hand your PC might get sucked in the middle of no where. Make a note of this, the older the your PC is the older the hardware buslines on your motherboard. This will make your mining speed too too slow. Because hardware is well hard when they get old. You can however try using external GPU's to boost the earning. But I don't really know about them much. You can find some nice articles about it in the bitcoin discussion section. All the best.

do understand  if you want to learn don't involve a pc that you need as you could kill it and f yourself.

A lot of people have older gear used. on the cheap

you could get a test rig and learn fairly cheaply.

with out killing your server.

you could mine zec fairly easy with cards that have 3gb ram or 2gb ram.  a used rig would allow you to learn how to mine.

but back to your server  what is the motherboard ?  what gpu does it have?

maybe you could grab a cheap card and put it in the server
