The United States will attempt to intercept an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile during a missile defense system test Tuesday, the first time such a test has ever been performed. As North Korea aggressively works to perfect the reentry expertise for a functional ICBM, ensuring that the Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) system designed to stop it is essential.

Reuters reports that the U.S. has used the GMD to intercept other kinds of missiles, but not an ICBM. U.S. officials say the test was scheduled well in advance and has nothing to do with any current events, but given North Korea’s increased belligerence as of late, it certainly feels like good timing.

The GMD has carried out tests in the past, with a record of nine successful interceptions out of 17.

Instead of the USA waiting for the North Koreans to attack them first, I think they should rather try and overthrow that idiotic dictator before he causes any damage to the entire world. He must go by all means.

Well still much better than zero. This is equivalent to the invention of practicle body armor against modern firearms back in the 20th century. It won't save you every time, but you'd feel safer having it. If the 17 largest cities in the US for example are targeted and destroyed by nukes, that seems like the end of America, but if 9 can survive, there might be a future for the country.

Fortunately for Americans, Kim Jong-UN has no ICBMs, but they can appear. The interception of these missiles is easier during the climb. It is for this reason of great importance to America, Japan and South Korea have American interception system. So you don't have to use them better to destroy the regime of Kim during a set of his power.

North Korea is not interested in ICBMs as an offensive but a defensive weapon, I mean, they will not launch their misils first because they know that in this case they would be destroyed but if they are attacked in first place they can use them as response and this is what will discourage other countries from attacking them.

The risk isn't worth the reward. North Korea doesn't haven anything. It's better to flex muscles and prepare solid defense...the defense proves that this little guy can't really influence any pain toward the US.

And yeah, he must go. There should be a revolt internally. If everyone in that country started walking toward the border, any border, to leave the country for good he might kill them all but at least they'd defeat him. That's a cause worth dieing for.

ICBMs are always used for attack. They can't be used for defense purposes. You can say that the ICBMs can be used for a counter-attack, once North Korea comes under attack from hostile nations such as South Korea, Japan and the United States.
