For example, Putin is wealthier than Trump, but most of them know that if they started a "who can wear more money" contest, they'd just make fools of themselves in public and PR is more important than showing off on meetings of this level. Well, Trump is billionaire and he and his wife can afford to buy such expensive clothes. Melania don't have to wear jacket worth $50 or $100.
But another question, is it really normal that simple jacket costs 51k dollars just because it was made by famous designer? Or is it made from gold? I would understand if it would cost few thousands, but not so much as it really costs.

No care for a billionaire they can afford it but really there is no need to skyrocket to those prices for a jacket.

He isn't stealing money from the American people to buy this clothing - this is something that he can afford to buy for his wife/something his wife can afford to buy with family money and she bought it. It's not like they don't have the money and connections to pay for this lavish lifestyle. So, you'd probably be doing this same sort of thing if you had the money that the Trump family had but you, and I, and tons of other people can't do this - but would love to.
