Why do you guys think Bitcoin is declining in popularity? Looks like Ethereum will pass it. What can Bitcoin do to maintain number 1?

And why do you think bitcoin is being surpassed be Eth, could you please elaborate in more detail? In twenty four hours ethereum trading volumes passed bitcoin trading according to data from CoinMarketCap on tuesday. But I don't think that is sufficient "proof" that bitcoin is less popular all of a sudden. If Eth sustains higher trading volumes over a longer period, then maybe we can say Eth is provably more popular than bitcoin.  It is nowhere near it for now.

Really? How did this happen can you give us your source of this?
Because as far as I know bitcoin is really on top all over the crypto currencies despite the fact of high fees and delay of transactions, since bitcoin is still counting for its investors, I mean it still gaining supporters and continue despite of it. The value of bitcoin is still increasing so I guess ETH is not surpassing BTC yet.

Because the BTC/ETH market cap ratio continues to shrink by the day.

the highest volume is on zero fee exchanges. that always sends volume through the roof.

eth has an identifiable leader who hustles hard. that makes people feel comfortable. it has marketing and corporate backing. it has lots of projects on the go. it has impressive long words.

if you were a total noob would you look at bitcoin with all its problems, divisions and stagnation or shiny ethereum?

ethereum's problems will eventually bite it hard. right now it's in the mood to shine.

Honestly, I think Bitcoin losing its number 1 status is a good thing. Shaking things up will force Bitcoin users to 'get real' and start adapting instead of relying on brand recognition.

ETH is what bitcoin was ment to be with programmable contracts and all that stuff, not just money. Blockchain can be used for various type of things. Bitcoin will still be the most recognize in the crypto world or when someone is entering in it - or at least for now.

Also having in mind that people are trying to do a hard fork UASF as it may even cause chain to split, the time is not okay for bitcoin right now as we have scaling debate... Hopefully this will get fixed and we will see that bitcoin starts to dominate not to lose its volume and trading % per day.

Another thing is that people are greedy and want money so they are looking to see the new bitcoin to earn and make a profit. Ethereum, is good in investors eyes, because they have a lot of supporters around, specially when people hear that even Microsoft is working together with them also some other companies. It is not just Ethetreum look at XMR aka monero for instance they are also taking some good place because of the privacy that the coin itself provides. WHich means people can't just do a search on the blockchain explorer to be able to see your balance - like with bitcoin.

Bitcoin is laking on some features, although if they are implemented bitcoin still have a good place above all other alts. But btc can also lose the battle easily.

I think bitcoin still has the most current popularity. Bitcoin is still much better than etherum. But indeed the development of altcoin is currently very rapid. I think this will be a healthy competition to improve the digital currency in the world today.

Bitcoin has to hurry up and change the blocksize so that fees decrease and there is more confidence in transaction times. If that can't be achieved then there is nothing Bitcoin can do than hope that the community stays loyal and keeps pumping money into itself. Otherwise people will leave and they will just encourage cryptos like Ethereum to grow, and it will potentially be replaced.

There is a possibility that we could see more investments from China in ETH in coming months and since it was controlling the price of bitcoin for a longer time now it is time for them to focus their energy on ETH and start manipulating it to the core,i think there are many projects eyeing to be developed and it will all be under ETH and it will boost the rate of ETH,but i do not think that it will over take bitcoin when it comes to price.

i think it might happen this week.

but china won't be allowed to play their previous games. it'll be a regular market with fees. i'm sure there'll be huge demand and huge dumps though.

Yes, BTC has been declining for months, and that shouldn't surprise anyone. As long as the scaling issue isn't solved, it will keep on going downwards. But BTC is still way ahead of all the other cryptos. It's the only one you can actually use to buy goods or services.

i think bitcoin is going to maintain its position as number one, i do not think that the popularity of bitcoin is decreasing,  to me i think the popularity of bitcoin is increasing from day to day and that is the reason that people are entering in the world which is causing the increase of the price of bitcoin. in fact people are now putting trust on bitcoin and therefore they are investing their assets for trading.

Many people prefer to use altcoin like etherum and litetcoin for small transaction instead of using bitcoin due to the higher fee and low confirmation of the bitcoin. On the other hand bitcoin is not fully anonymous and there is monero which is untraceable and anonymous. I might confess that there are many competitors out there but untill now no one can beat bitcoin i think because of it's decentralized nature and originality, that's the reason why bitcoin still exist.

In your dreams son, ethereum is just token with unlimited supply. People will soon find out and will abandon this project of crazy russian kiddo Smiley.
Bitcoin is store of vlaue, money, so much more than any other crypto. But its good that some think otherwise, more BTC for true believers.

Because the more countries tried to consider the blockchain expands through use the ethereum platform. Especially the recent news comes from chinese give a lot of impact for the price of ethereum. More people FOMO ethereum. And my guess the bitcoin popularity will be less. The another crypto gain more popularity and that makes the bitcoin users try to take a look on the ethereum platform maybe. Bitcoin needs a lot of improvements and not a lot of the greedy politicians.

There is not a single chance of happening this. If you concluding this from current scenario of bitcoin them forget about your statement. It is just pump and dump that always keep happening with bitcoin because of more holdings and sometimes selling of it. It is not like that bitcoin is declining as crypto currency it just another part of bitcoin process or how it works.
