Thanks to life I've been out of touch with cryptocurrencies a bit sadly.
I remembered that I have some Ripple, and that raised two questions:

1. Is there a standalone client? Something like Bitcoin Core, or can transactions only be done via Gatehub? I have backuped the secret key of my Ripple address, but I want to create a new one where only I know the new secret and move my Ripple there.

2. Can a Ripple account get empty? I remember something like an "activation balance" that needs to be present, but what if I want to transfer every single XRP to my new address?

i recently also remebered i had a load of XRP from the initial float.
Go to gatehub and import your wallet their.
After verification of the account, which might take a week, you will then be able to trade them XRP for either BTC or ETH.
You will need to open an account somewhere else if you want fiat out.
So far after verification Gatehub has been very smooth and i have been able to withdraw BTC after conversion.
