BitcoinID is an Open Source, Free & Immutable Username / Password pair that can be used to log into any application that uses the protocol. It is stored with the Bitcoin blockchain. It cannot be destroyed or deleted. It is your username - forever. BitcoinID has nothing to do with identifying Bitcoin transactions - it simply uses the Bitcoin blockchain to store a Username/Password pair. In this way you can create a username that truly lasts - you don't need to rely on any private company's servers/databases to store your credentials. Anyone who has ever lost a username because MSN, Yahoo, Facebook or some other company closed their account for whatever reason, will realise that this is a great idea. You can now create a username that will be yours forever - as long as the Bitcoin blockchain exists somewhere (there are currently millions of copies) your username will exist. The Bitcoin blockchain is THE most widely distributed blockchain. BitcoinID does NOT use the Ethereum blockchain in any way. As long as you create a complex enough password (we allow you up to 72 characters) and you don't forget your password - you will be able to use it forever. There is no way to change your password - so make sure it is complex enough to not be brute-forced (we suggest 9 characters minimum). As with OpenID - any developer can use our login system to make their application truly P2P and futureproof. The difference to OpenID is that there is no central database that needs to be relied on. Application developers can search their own optimised copy of the Bitcoin blockchain or use other various API's that are freely available which allow this (such as blockchain.info)
