    Status updates:

Ya'll might need to know this as they begin showing up in the mail for you: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=220450.0

    2013-05-05: group buy setup
2013-05-09: if you order 10+, I will ship via FedEx next day service.
2013-05-24: Group open to Canadian orders of 5+
2013-05-27: Today we got a nice surprise, the minimum order is now 50 instead of 300.  As a result, our group order will be placed in 12 hours.
2013-05-27: Payment sent to friedcat for 193 units: https://blockchain.info/tx/cfb20829772eb9a3e774fda0f405bd96dbcc53e2cc6d06505be925473f9a9093
2013-05-28: Just got a text from friedcat that the DHL label for this order is being printed... Smiley
2013-05-29: add .12 for next day shipping if your order is less than 10 units and you want next day instead of priority.
    2013-06-01: 4th group buy here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=222960.0
2013-06-01: All shipments I send out require a signature.

The Universe/God LOVES irony/coincidences... look at this, click on the transaction id (above link) and see that the map flag is planted in Ukraine for relaying this transaction... Well, what are the odds of that?  Any statisticians here to calculate the odds?  I was born in Ukraine...

I have received the payment address for our group buy from friedcat/ASICMiner.

Folks, the payment will be sent to friedcat at 1:30 PM CST (Chicago) on 5/27/2013
    Timer removed. End time: 2013-05-27+13:30:59

    Pricing:
The minimum order size for the group buy is 300 units at 1.99 bitcoins each.

Shipping cost: $5.80 for Priority Mail Small Flat Rate box.  I will ship up to 5 USBs per 1 USPS shipping box. At the current exchange rate ($110 USD/BTC) the cost of shipping up to 5 USBs is .053 bitcoins.  I will not use anything else like a padded envelope and risk crushing of USBs while in transit.

Insurance cost is $2.40 for $1000 of declared value.  This adds .0218 btc at current exchange rate.

Handling and processing is .15 btc for up to 5 USBs

So this is about (5*1.99)+.053+.0218+.15 = 10.1748 BTC per 5 USB devices. which is BTC2.03496 per USB device when you buy 5.

Note: If you want to pickup your order in person, you may do so by appointment, after I finish shipping first, your cost is 1.99 btc per USB device under this option.

    Ordering:

If you still want to buy and are fine with the above pricing model, then you will have to participate by paying for your order upfront.

There is one common payment address: 1Gmop1ATPKytieiw6Zdn4vDAWPLKdfmYx5

    To buy:

pick the number of ASICMiner Block Erupter USBs to order: N where N is between 1 and 5 only
    send the total amount (C = (N * 1.99)+ 0.2248) to the given address
    post your order in the following format: <forum nick>; <N>; <C>; <sending address>
ensure the sending address is under your control, so you can sign with it in case of disputes

You can order in multiples of up to 5. Meaning: if you want to order say 6, you would place two orders: one for 5 units and another order for 1 unit.  to order 7, you would place 2 orders where N=5 and second order where N=2... and so on.

If there is enough demand to order an additional 300 batch, I'll do so (given they are available to order). Those not getting into the queue will get their coins returned (to the sending address).

    Shipment
The USB miners will be shipped to you within 1 day of me receiving them.

    Communication
I live in Chicago (CST time zone: UTC/GMT -5 hours) and have a day-job that allows me ample time to devote to this endeavor. I do sleep at night, so if I don't answer at night, please be patient.

    Cheers,

Sorry, my www.shipandinsure.com account is good for US shipments only.  I don't want to get involved with international shipments.

it's BTC2.03496 per unit with this group buy if you pickup 5 units.

This group's price is better for orders in 5s.

I would totally pick up a few of these, if they hadn't priced them so high. I might pick up a few offhand in a few months to give to friends, but I can't justify it right now.

To pickup a few and use them to introduce others to mining is a good thing for bitcoin in the long run.  USB mining sticks will get it introduced to the mainstream user.  it is going to be a tipping point.

there is another thread in mining speculation that says these will never pay for themselves and they are nothing more than a novelty item.  it is said these should not be considered by serious miners.
what is your payback estimation assuming Avalon ships 500,000+ chips in the next two months?
Here's one of the better analysis I've come across on the topic: http://organofcorti.blogspot.com/2013/04/914-asic-earnings-23-april-2013.html
I highly recommend reading all of the posts on this blog, very informative.  making an assumption of 500,000 chips *282 MHs and going with it is kinda tough, cause nothing has ever happened AS ASSUMED with bitcoin and mining from what ive seen so far.  but current 72THs will get increased. the difficulty is projected to go up 90 times?  Im thinking GPUs are done in the next few months.  the faster one can switch to ASICs the better off one will be.  The longer the wait, the larger the missed opportunity is.  there's also a sub-forum for speculation here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=57.0  where a lot of this info is discussed.

I have set up another group-buy at https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=201577.0.

This is an International one so it is more expensive but it is available to all of us that don't live in the US/Canada and Europe.

    Neil

EDIT: Anyone in the US/Canada and Europe is welcome though.

I only have enough coin to buy a single unit, not a 5 batch (heh believe me, I'd love to grab 5 - 10 of these guys and spread them across a few powered hubs) so I won't waste your time unless this changes drastically.  Thanks for taking on the duties of being in charge of a group buy and this really is why I love (most,  Wink) of the BCT community.  I'm in Washington D.C. and while I do frequent Chicago 2x a year, my first trip was a couple months back and my 2nd isn't until October (otherwise I have a good friend that is a 3rd-year resident at Northwestern, works in the Cardiac Unit, and I'm sure he'd have no trouble popping out one of my kidneys, then we could work out the exchange rate in Bitcoin  Grin).

I imagine that Canary is having the same problem I am, people actually need to put in orders instead of wait to see if others will do it first.

If I were you, I would put in your orders and others may do the same.

we will be up to 50-55 units with your order, with 245-250 to go.  we have time and momentum as orders like yours start to come in.  Besides, all else fails, you get your bitcoins back. no loss for you. Smiley shall I take your order then? Smiley

I'm thinking about going in on this... I just can't wrap my head around spending this much for so little hashing.

I mean from my perspective - I'd make more money buying a bunch of 7970s and reselling them for 75% of purchase price in a couple months.

ROI is what... ~6 months? So make that 9 after the 30% increase in difficulty that's coming.

I'll think about it some more.

Can you really get 75% from a mined out vid card?  That's an honest question, actually, since I simply don't know.  After seeing how miners run these things I would not touch one with a 10' pole as a buyer for actually running a monitor.  As for mining, it seems GPU mining is going the way of the waterbuffalo even at today's BTC prices.  I suppose there are always alt coins, but still I just cannot wrap my head around someone paying 75%.

I've sold used 7970s for anything from 300 to 350.  That's not when "everyone is selling" them though.

I think the key thing here is power usage.  If you have expensive electricity, these will pay for themselves quickly if you swap em with your 7970s.  And they'll generate profit longer.  However, once difficulty gets really really high, you'll be stuck with unsellable items.  Your call as to whether that works for you or not.

a 7970 mining + reselling pay for itself in 2 months(you even make profit lol), much faster than anything else, right now

    the math

buy at 400, mine for two months=220(minus 120 bills), sell at =350
    total=450

My ASICMINER USB Erupter showed up about an hour ago.
Been playing with the Icarus timing settings still not quite got it right yet.

Obviously yes I'm getting around 300MH/s out of it.

Currently best settings are for anyone wondering while I sort it out:

I am interested in this as well. At least one, maybe up to 5. I'll have to buy some BTC.

Question? After you order what is the time to ship? Are we looking at weeks or months to I get this in my grubby little hand?

I intend to get these out to people no longer than 1 day after I receive them.  I'm going to have everything ready as far as labels and boxes and packaging material and will be ready to ship immediately upon receipt from ASCIMiner.  For example, if the delivery gets here in the AM, I have till 7 PM to ship as many as I can that same day.  if the shipment gets here in the afternoon, I'll probably finish shipping the next day.  I will have help to repackage and ship out so this won't be a 1 man operation.

I intend to get these out to people no longer than 1 day after I receive them.  I'm going to have everything ready as far as labels and boxes and packaging material and will be ready to ship immediately upon receipt from Avalon.  For example, if the delivery gets here in the AM, I have till 7 PM to ship as many as I can that same day.  if the shipment gets here in the afternoon, I'll probably finish shipping the next day.  I will have help to repackage and ship out so this won't be a 1 man operation.

Great! You did say Avalon though?  My question was more about ASCIMiner, I didn't see what their projected ship date is? Do you happen to know?

Damn, I was totally ready to pony up BTC10.1748 for 5 Avalons, lol  Tongue.  I wish more people would get in on this, I don't think I'm holding up sales by not chipping in my BTC to buy 1 unit, however I am on a fundraising binge and hopefully will be able to stack another 10 - 20 orders on to the unit (I don't know if demand wasn't high enough or if people just don't like paying for products upfront via non-escrow means, feel free to leave a comment if you have passed over this group buy for any reason other than lack of funds).

Currently I'm selling some coding/illustration services in preparation of E3 (in many circles this is known as the "1 month scramble"... it's also known by other terms but they are rather crude; keep BCT clean!  Grin) to some companies/developers/friends/etc.  While they would almost never consider paying me $2,400 in fiat US currency to help in adding details to an existing illustrated cardboard stand (one of my assignments), if they have been involved with Bitcoin for a while - which a surprising number of game developers are - then BTC20 doesn't seem like much if it saves them a few days worth of work, especially if they have 20 - 30 other tasks they need to get done.

Good luck Tranz and I'll try to get the word out to the adafruit community as well as a few of the good hackerspaces in the D.C. Metro Area (okay there are only two good ones and you know who you are  Cool).  Until then, gf just got out of the shower so now it's my turn to rinse off before we go out to complete our day off together with movie then dinner (didn't really know what to see so we picked "Iron Man 3" as it seemed to be the best movie out that we hadn't seen yet).  She doesn't know this but I made reservations for Flemming's in Baltimore a few weeks back... I've been to a few of their locations, each time I've had the best steak ever.  I don't want to start a food war over who makes the best steaks but if you are in the U.S. I highly suggest you check out their locations and at least eat there once.  Oops, movie is starting in 45mins, better scoot!

Please look at the following chart:

    http://bitcoin.sipa.be/growth.png

If you believe the blue line will average under 0.65, these will pay for themselves. Over 0.65, they will not. Personally, I think the blue line will be 1%+ for the foreseeable future. I believe it is unlikely these will ever return much over 1 BTC.

More people should jump on this.  I do wish ASICMINER lowered the price a bit however.
I don't think people realize that as difficulty shoots higher and higher gpu miners are going to leave.  The fastest hashes/sec from https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison is 2130 mh/s.  If difficulty grows to 35m or so are they really going to run 6 cards all day for ฿0.03 ?
I don't think difficulty will go much higher than 35m for that reason, using 10 of these USB devices at that difficulty we get ฿1.31 a month at a FRACTION of the energy cost - the device will pay for itself, I don't see how there is any doubt about that.

Get an ASIC while you can - hell, get 10 and be mining with the force of 7 5850s by the end of month.

I fully agree RedComet, I think the doubters fail to realize the power savings. I've seen a lot of "X card does twice the hash for the same price" with no consideration of the PC you need to place the card in, and all the power draw that comes with it. My plan is to use a raspberry pi, providing I can get cgminer to play nice with both the Rpi and the ASICs. If the Rpi is too expensive I've seen people running cgminer on DDWRT-based routers (and those are as cheap as $20 on ebay if you can wait for the slow-boat-from-china-shipping.

I revise my earlier statement as the model I had in mind is for a different chipset. This is what I was referring to: http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-WR703N-Portable-802-11n-Wireless/dp/B0083Z54P0/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=1OH1ER7SR4A17&coliid=I253D18N4X83OA

You could possibly roll your own if you had the skill though Grin

EDIT: added link to the router

I'm committed to getting this order in, so Yes, special pricing:

    BTC 1.99*200
    + $23K of insurance is $46 so 46/115= .4 BTC
+ ~$100 shipping (next day fedex this is approximate since I don't know the final weight) = .87 BTC
+ 1.99 BTC for my efforts (equal to 1 stick for me).

    Fair?

Do we know if these will be produced to fill the order or does ASICMiner have them ready to ship?

Maybe this will answer your question...

Seems like there's plenty of empty promises here, so what's one more?

I'm interested.  I have a friend coming to my house in two weeks who live in Chicago, so if I can order some and have him pick them up before coming here, that'd be swell.

I will look further into this over the long weekend, but figured I'd express my interest in case that gets me on a follow up list.

I'd love just one to start, but if there's a minimum of 5 or 10 units, I may still be interested.

From reading the OP, looks like there's no minimum.  But there is a maximum of 5 per order (place another order for additional units).

Also, it's pay to play - Canary's not taking reservations to my knowledge.

Hopefully we'll have a pleasant surprise when Canary updates the order count.
I imagine it's causing quite a few potential buyers to hold back at this point.

knybe, according to the transaction record, the sending address was 1BM96gWr8NV4Akt97jJDJuCSyVDBtmzpom, which is different that the one you provided...
I can accept 1BM96gWr8NV4Akt97jJDJuCSyVDBtmzpom as the sending address, hopefully it is in your control to sign a message with.
    Thanks for your order!

Maybe some one covered this somewhere but why should we trust OP with 90 thousand USD worth in Bitcoins?

Benefits of this USB ASICMiner group buy over others I've seen:

      • Reservation by payment - no tortuous "collecting payments" period
      • Shipping included in price
      • Canary already has a shipping strategy planned out

That first point is a big advantage - I'm reading threads w other group buys that have essentially stalled out due to reservations flaking on payment.

Maybe some one covered this somewhere but why should we trust OP with 90 thousand USD worth in Bitcoins?
if by "OP" you mean me, then the answer is because you can.

Has someone already looked up past trades in the honest traders list, etc?  Seems like a cool guy, but I haven't done that yet.

As far as signing with an address, perhaps I'm not as tech savy, but I don't know which address will send the transaction before I send one using my home wallet.

I always have to go look at the transaction using blockchain.info and sometimes it uses coins from multiple addresses.  I've not signed before, is that in the original satoshi client at this time?  Do I have to do that?

Perhaps someone can walk me through how to do that before I join?  I hope to be available tonight or tomorrow AM.

I'm up to about 15 orders now and would like to start placing my orders once I learn how to sign and do some homework on Canary just to be safe.

Gonna check in with a few more friends to see how many more units I can add to this order.  If the guy who wants 200+ pulls through, please announce 24 hours before ordering so those of us on the sidelines can have that grace period if you don't mind Smiley

AFAIK the bitcoin wallet client does not show the address the the funds were sent from. You do need to go to blockexplorer.com and look up the address the funds were sent from. If sent from multiple addresses then you can pick one. once you have the address, then follow the directions youve read elsewhere, ie. click "sign", fill out the three fields, the click "sign message".  now send all three fields to Canaryinthemine. He will be able to use the signature and the address to verify the contents of the message came from someone that controls the address.
if you didnt do this...  some random internet person could send him a bogus mailing address, claiming they are you. this way he knows the mailing address and the funds came from the same person/wallet.

I'm in Canada, so I'd have to order 5 of these things... any thoughts on how long (if ever) it'd take to turn a profit running 5 sticks on a raspberry pi? Electricity is around 11c/kWh here.

I mean, I have the BTC, I'm just not sure what my level of risk would be in buying these.

    minimal risk....

there are a few crypto currencies that use the same hash as BTC and that peer to peer site lets you mine them, with 5 you could set 2 for BTC and the others on a different currency each.  There is also an option for you of each to a different BTC pool or all on one.  The end game as it were, depends on how much of a game changer letting 300 units total on to the currencies changes the hashing and cashing in on it.

Still a long way from my first BTC, and finaly up to 12MHash/sec. and want just one of these, but as a Canadian, that 5 min is gona kill my system trying to get it.

Looks like the minimum order has been dropped from 300 units to 50 units:

Is this group buy still planning to wait for the 300 mark? If not, I'll buy in.

Today we got a nice surprise, the minimum order is now 50 instead of 300.  As a result, our group order will be placed in 12 hours.

I have received the payment address for our group buy from friedcat/ASICMiner.

Folks, the payment will be sent to friedcat at 1:30 PM CST (Chicago) on 5/27/2013

    Timer removed. End time: 2013-05-27+13:30:59
Several of you asked for a 24 hour heads up, but there's no need to wait any longer to get our order placed since the minimum is now 50 units.

So please feel free to get your orders in until that time.  Once I send payment to friedcat, I will post here to let you know.

It is highly likely that I will start another group by after that for those who will miss the first order.

Can we get an updated, official list of those who ordered for this first round? I say first round since you alluded to putting together another group buy after this one has finished.

    CCM,

I presume the next batch is still Open?

I sent you a PM and I did it right this time so you should have it!
Is there an issue with paying by a MtGox account with 6-Confirmations?
Do you have an order form or do we just pay and post the transaction details here?

Should I send an email concerning the order by pgp?

any payments are going to go into the next order.  next order will be placed when 50 units are paid for.  if orders will keep coming in, i'll keep running it...

as far as sending from mt. gox or other exchanges etc...:  you don't control that sending address, so it's theoretically possible for someone to sign that message and claim they placed that order and not you.
therefore, it is highly advisable to send from address/es you control and can sign a message with.
when I'm done with accounting for the first order, i'll put up some pics/instructions on signing messages too.

Does anyone have a good recommendation on which USB hub could be used to power 3-5 of these?

    If all else fails..... http://hackaday.com/2013/05/25/add-external-power-to-any-usb-hub/

found it usefull with an old D-Link router's power adapter....

missed this round, still not up to a full BTC in one wallet.... maybe next time the Canadian orders could be lower like 2+ units or hosed on shipping Huh

For those who may not be clear on this:  Currently:

     - blockchain.info accounts can be set up for free.  As many as one wishes.

     - blockhain.info accounts can sign messages.

     - it should be relatively straightforward to set up a 'throw-away' blockchain.info account, send the necessary funds (with possibly a little more in case transaction fees are desirable) from one's Mt. Gox account to the blockchain.info account, thence on to the Group Buy.  This will allow one to sign messages demonstrating proof of ownership.

    Notes:

     - There may be other wallets, but I've only used blockchain.info so it is the only one I can speak to.

     - Best to take notes and log the info from the 'throw away' account just in case it is needed in the future.

     - Although blockchain.info claims to be pretty robust against various form of exploitation seen in the past, it's still and on-line wallet and very few people are going to be studying the decryption code to verify that it is legit.  Still, in a use-case such as this, one is only risking money for a short amount of time.  I personally weigh the risk of Mt. Gox being locked by the authorities as higher than blockchain.info engineering a heist anyway.

A list of Proper Instructions how to properly sign a BTC sent Transaction could be most useful to all!

brainwallet.org has this ability. click the "sign message" tab and enter the private key of your payment address. once your message is typed, hit the "sign message" button. then, paste the EXACT message you typed, along with the signature, into a pm.

you can also verify someone else's message in the "verify message" tab. try it out:

    Message:
    Code:
this signed message is proof that i have the private key for 1HFn2U71FJv7MQfbXkVNtR7S7j9h39EVFJ.

    Signature:
    Code:
    HKrNm8daO6JeMpEV08+yaY5EU1Uf438xPSyaf2/Es8EsyfCUptTaaOhIG2pKHxA6pEZM8CFoLODFyPgdEL+1IKg=

    A) So you have to put your private key into a website somewhere?  That sounds risky

    B) How do I get the private key out of my wallet.dat file anyway?

    C) Perhaps making a burner blockchain.info account would be a more secure method?

    A) So you have to put your private key into a website somewhere?  That sounds risky

It's all javascript, you can download the page and run it on an offline computer.

    B) How do I get the private key out of my wallet.dat file anyway?

No idea, I use web wallets.

    C) Perhaps making a burner blockchain.info account would be a more secure method?

You use the private key of the account you paid with, so you can prove that it's you. Otherwise, I'd be able to request that your units be sent to me Smiley

EDIT: Not sure if I misunderstood. You certainly could transfer BTC to a burner blockchain.info account, and pay from that account. The same warning still applies, that you need to have the private key of the address you're paying from.

A list of Proper Instructions how to properly sign a BTC sent Transaction could be most useful to all!

See the OP on this thread if you want details on doing it with bitcoin-qt:
    https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=195052.0

    From the quoted thread:

The message signing process is only to prove you own a certain bitcoin address.
You will want to sign the message right after you send payment.  Once payment is sent, copy the bitcoin address you sent the payment from and copy the transaction ID to enter in your message.

    If using bitcoin-qt:
    Click file, then sign message:

In line 1 - enter the bitcoin address you sent the payment from
In line 2 - construct a detailed message based of the example shown below.  Best to use details about the payment sent including transaction number etc.
Then click the button labeled sign message (3)

After you click that button, you will get this message:

Now, PM all three of these fields to Canary:
-Address you sent payment from that you used in line 1  (this is the address recorded for your transaction on the list of orders.)
-message entered in line 2 (shipping info with phone if required)
    -signature that bitcoin-qt populated.

On my end, I use these 3 pieces of information in the verify tab and it will confirm that all the information is correct.

Do not make any of the info public.  Make sure everything is copy and pasted verbatim.

    yes!

regarding colors: a mix would be nice, but unless they're labelled on the outside, don't bother... i don't think your costs account for opening, inspecting, and sorting 200 boxes either Wink

    How is local pickup working?

PM to setup an individual time/location or group pickup at some starbucks or something?

I'd like to know this as well.

On top of that, we are paying HST and brokerage when we get the package.  But I still prefer my order to be sent Fedex. USPS is good but you'll be getting it who knows when and if your package is flagged by Customs, you'll wait weeks before you get it.  It happened to me once, where incoming USPS package (handled by CanadaPost on our side) was stopped in Customs; CanadaPost and Customs played "it is not me it is him" game to two weeks.  I called Canada Customs, they referred me to CanadaPost.  When I called CanadaPost, they referred me to Canada Customs.  Total nightmare.

I hope your USPS package gets in without a hassle.

gulp! now you've got me worried. never dealt much specifically with USPS (or FedEx, for that matter); i'm just thinking of my positive experiences with canada post, and the extortionate brokerage fees that UPS slaps on cross-border packages.

this actually raises an interesting point -- what's the value of these things for customs declarations? my bitcoins were a LOT cheaper than $128 each.

    thieves, all of 'em!

my work requires a lot of supplies that are a LOT more readily available (and at better prices) in the USA, but i've been using the more expensive domestic sources more and more just because i hate lining the couriers' pockets. $35 to fill out a form!

If the miners do come in tomorrow, would I be able to pick them up in person as opposed to having them shipped? I just so happen to be in the area till monday morning and it would be ultra convenient to be able to have them asap.

it's 4:37 PM here, I've got a few hours to hit the Post Office, so will get some out today.

The bad thing is that they all are black in color from the looks of it.  The good thing is that they're all black in color, so no one is going to nag at me for not getting the colors they wanted! hehehehe

They're all here and all are fine.

it's 4:37 PM here, I've got a few hours to hit the Post Office, so will get some out today.

The bad thing is that they all are black in color from the looks of it.  The good thing is that they're all black in color, so no one is going to nag at me for not getting the colors they wanted! hehehehe

Are all the ones you were able to send today listed as tracking number sent?

If for some reason, someone can't get you an address or something falls through, can I get on a waitlist to purchase?  My ACH is finally clearing on Monday and I don't want to wait for the next group buy! lol Smiley

I haven't been following these threads very closely, and to be honest I don't want to read through this whole thread lol.

Is there a group buy I can participate in right now, or do I need to wait?

Charlie Kelly: I'm pleading the 5th.  The Attorney: I would advise you do that.  Charlie Kelly: I'll take that advice under cooperation, alright? Now, let's say you and I go toe-to-toe on bird law and see who comes out the victor?  The Attorney: You know, I don't think I'm going to do anything close to that and I can clearly see you know nothing about the law.

    Report:
I got about half the orders out today, some via FedEx, the rest via USPS.

I've got the others that are going USPS addressed and ready to ship out tomorrow morning.

"trackin # sent" actually means the package is on it's way to you.

    Will finish tomorrow morning.

Not too soon, I need at least one more business day before my ACH clears and then probably about 12 hours to execute a buy order and get confirmations! lol

Just checking in to see if you were able to send out the remainder of the USB miners today. I checked page 1 and it doesn't look like it has changed since yesterday. A bunch of us still show "---" rather than "tracking # sent" in the Notes column.

    Please advise. Thanks!

Just finished updating after napping... had a horrible fiasco with a forum user in the early morning which really stole a good 3 hrs of my time... but anyway, 3 orders remain of which 1 should be picked up tomorrow, hopefully I will hear back from the second and the third one is just waiting for FedEx drop off for next day.

Upon receiving my shipment, I plan on leaving Canary a positive trust feedback on the forum.  It is the least I can do to show my respect and gratitude.

Again, Great job and looking forward to my hash Smiley

Frankly, I did not expect to get it that fast.  You are truly a professional.

    Thanks for an excellent service.

BTW, I just got out of a workshop; finished a cooling box for three ankers.  I'll post some pics once I set it up.

So, did Kano figured out why cgminer 3.2.0 cannot find erupters?

    Indeed they were!

Now I'm having a heck of a time getting cgminer to use them.

Running Debian linux. They show up in lsusb. I have put the udev rules in place. Added myself to the plugged group.

    I only get:

"Icarus detect (2:7) failed to initialize (incorrect device?)"

    Compiled from tip of master.

    Thoughts anyone?

"Icarus detect (2:7) failed to initialize (incorrect device?)"

    Compiled from tip of master.

    Thoughts anyone?

Looks like cgminer 3.2 isn't up to snuff talking to the USB devices directly. Checked out 3.1.1 and managed to get it working talking to them over a serial device.

    C:\cgminer\cgminer-3.1.1-windows\cgminer-nogpu.exe -o [url] -u [worker name] -p [password] --icarus-options 115200:1:1 --icarus-timing 3.0=100 -S //./COM3 -S //./COM8 -S //./COM9 -S //./COM11 -S //./COM13 -S //./COM6 -S //./COM7 -S //./COM12 -S //./COM15 -S //./COM16

As you know, you will have to fill in bold information (without brackets) and check in Devices/Printers to see your COM numbers. Make sure you've got the correct location for cgminer-nogpu.exe entered.

    Thanks again Canary!

Once I got everything working I'm pretty happy. Wish I could get a few more. Oh well.

I don't know why mine seem to be hashing faster than everyone else's. I've been out of the mining business for some time so I'm not sure what is normal. I'm not using any special arguments on the command line. Maybe that's why?

arguments that you are using? what speed does pool report?

Got my package and was pleasantly surprised to find several miners with the red heatsinks mixed in with the others which have the black heatsinks. .
Now the miners are fashionably coordinated as they are busy hashing away. Woo Hoo.  Grin

As stated in the original message, "I'm not using any special arguments on the command line." In other words I was just using the -S command. The pool reported similar numbers. I have since added the "--icarus-options 115200:1:1 --icarus-timing 3.0=100" arguments and it is now showing the approximate 333Mh/s. I was averaging about 4% error. Now I am averaging about 3.5% error. I'm not using any type of active cooling.

Tell my little miners to work faster so they can have a new brother or sister.  Wink

Unfortunately, it's going to be awhile given the recent difficulty increase. Undecided

The h/w errors are kinda high.  What is your longer run average of "hw/(accepted+ rejected)"?

Been running for about 10 hrs now, got:
    A: 2792
    R: 0
    HW: 26

So about 1% HW errors. I have a USB fan pointed at the device. It is warm to touch, but bearable. Using a infrared thermometer, it reads about 92F at the hottest spot. Ambient temp is about 75F.

I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

I finally got a USB fan to point at them and while cooler it's only lowered the error rate about 1% to around 2.5-3%. Disappointed the fan didn't do more. Oh well.
