Wow. Pretty lucky for him and pretty happy i did not use such a thing. I think over time we will see a lot more services that have forgotten about their coins.

We still don't know if these is legit man, but whoever seen these neither replied or quoted your post are searching now. And either way, the are still no reports about hacked bitcoin wallet or someone getting their bitcoins sent. This is fake man, There are many people who actually claimed these, many people that creates a code to generate private keys, but no one is still successful.

What ever you are telling is that you have created the wallet but now you have got 22k users wallet details with private keys. Now you are in confusion that whether to scam all the wallet and collect all btc left in this exchanges. If i was in that situation i will not try to steal and better delete this log and inform this users to move their coins to other secure wallet.

This being true or not, it's a lesson for anyone looking to address any of those websites take more care while doing this.

For anyone wanting to use a address generator online: always use a known and trusted site (preferably https://www.bitaddress.org/) and always TURN OFF YOUR INTERNET before generating any address. That way you won't be in the danger zone.

And even if this guy is lying, I do not doubt that there are sites like this who has some option to log all address generated, especially those that generate the address on a server (eg: bitcoinvanitygen.com) and not on the user's browser.

The OP sid not created a bitcoin wallet nor holding 22K wallets with their private key, he posted someone on 4chan who is claiming that he made an bitcoin generator, sadly it didn't work out on it's year but in 2014 it started to downloaded and making a traffic to it's server. The op is just giving us a warning, though we don't know if these is true, hope it is not.

It's just a hoax, and nothing more. Other than that, now it's likely fake, but the scenario of this to happen is realistic. It just points out that people should never ever use an online service to generate wallet addresses for whatever purpose. If you aren't the sole entity that creates the keys, then consider them compromised.

It's hard to generate priv keys without using any service. Key thing is to make sure that generation is truly random and not rigged + do it off line.

Hopefully the story is fake, but if in near future people start to report missing btc, it will be easier to connect the dots and possibly trace the thief.

It's hard to generate priv keys without using any service. Key thing is to make sure that generation is truly random and not rigged + do it off line.

In easy terms, you need Bitcoin Core to start up, from which it directly creates a fresh wallet.dat file, where after that you can generate an address that you want to be your cold wallet address, or just a temporary address -- that easy it is, no service needed. If you want to extract the private keys from your wallet.dat file, you head over to the console and fill in the right commands.

1. Launch your bitcoin client
2. Click on 'help' in the menu bar (top right)
3. Click on 'debug window'
4. Select the 'console' tab
5. If your wallet is protected by a passphrase (i.e you have to enter a passphrase before you can send) unlock it by typing: walletpassphrase "your walletpassphrase here" 600
dumpprivkey [your Bitcoin address here]

* This will return the private key which will start with the number 5
* Once you have your private key if you had to unlock your wallet you can relock it by exiting or typing: walletlock

If true, than the decision is easy, go with what makes you and anyone else in that position sleep well at night. If the site is still used, it might be easy to contact with all the users and tell them to move their coins asap, no?

Anyways, seems unlikely. Such a site unattended? people using it without seeing it being updated?

I think he is pointing like a website to generate bitcoin address i saw this site before that you can generate bitcoin wallet instantly without any private keys. .
Its really not good idea to save your bitcoin in those service because you cant save the private keys so its not safe.. if the site gone your bitcoin will gone too..

one thing that i always find stupid about these posts like the screenshot OP shared is that why are they even telling the public about it! if they were to scam and really had private keys and ability to steal the coins of those who used that website, then he wouldn't have shared it in public, he would have just emptied the wallets and then shared and laughed about it!

Buying the dip...

Well, this sounds a little bit interesting but if he really got those data and access as well as the desire to scam all of those in that list then he won't be sharing that info anywhere. He can just be bluffing or joking though just to generate some interest to his post.

Whatever it is, this is a red flag for all of us to be always careful with the wallet we are creating so we will not be victimized by people whose reputation can be so low and is boosted by the fact that he can be doing things just online and can be hard to tracked by ordinary guys like us.

This is a very good example of human nature: "If I have the opportunity, I will scam."
It's never "If I have the opportunity, I will help."

Human race is worse than animals.

I think it is just a hoax because right now there are no reports saying that many people lost btc because if this is true I'm sure by now there will be some cases of lost btc. If something where to happen though and if this is real, then the man who posted the post in the picture might be the culprit. Thanks for the warning though OP.

I think this is just another made up story and bullshit. He just needs some attention and he might want to increase traffic to his website. There are some websites which displays bitcoin address & private key pairs but none of those address contain any bitcoin or none of them have ever received any single bitcoin in past.

Totally going to be a ton of bullshit, if someone had access to this and it was someone who was reputable and actually had some sort of backing then the entire bitcoin community would be in shambles right now, so this threat isn't anything to be worried about and I'd just simply ignore it.

Thanks for trying though I suppose. It's better to be safe than sorry.

This is a very good example of human nature: "If I have the opportunity, I will scam."

This.

Pretty much what I was going to say word for word.

I will wait for this if this is so true or not, it's little interesting IMO, besides my wallets are not from this kind of sites and I never used sites to store my coins, I preferably use a vanity address made on my local computer with of course turn off my internet access while doing it. But in this situation, if this is legit or not, this must serve as a lesson to all users here, or anyone using Bitcoin that don't use any untrusted sites that are related to cryptocurrency especially if it's related to money.

I think this is just another made up story and bullshit. He just needs some attention and he might want to increase traffic to his website. There are some websites which displays bitcoin address & private key pairs but none of those address contain any bitcoin or none of them have ever received any single bitcoin in past.
How would this story increase the traffic to his website? He's basically saying that by using his wallet generator, your addresses will be compromised.

It is probably a hoax just because I don't think anyone would be stupid enough to make this info public, but the scenario he describes is perfectly possible and I'm quite sure that some of these paper wallet generators do keep the private keys.

I would say that human race is representing the good and the bad elements as we are a mixture of dark and light. And I agree with you that there are some who will go scamming others if presented with an opportunity to do so and that is quite sad, to say the least. We are essentially selfish and the pull of the flesh is always around us.

Its been always part on a human being of being greedy and when it comes to money our evil side do pop out depending on whats the motive of a certain person. For OP if those wallets arent yours then better not to sweep out of those bitcoins inside on those wallet since its not yours afterall.Im not saying im in the good side but this thing would be better deed as a person but still it on your own decision since those wallets cant really be traced by its original owners.

How many times have people used online address generators?
Thousands of times.

There are tons of threads in this forum about now not to f*** do it but look at the numbers of sites advertising this.
It wouldn't surprise me to have at least 100 guys around here that have online generated wallets by a 3rd party.

People are stupid and this is it.

And why should it be such a catastrophe ?
Idiots pay the price and it has nothing to do with bitcoin.

It's not only newbies that go wrong here. There are plenty of long term members that still don't understand that it's not worth making use of online services to either generate addresses, or to store coins. People mostly go for these options because they value convenience more than having total control over their funds. It's always like this -> people only learn when they end up losing money/coins.

Exactly, because people will do anything to amass wealth and so Bitcoin being so huge in our days would definitely impress some bad eyes to scheme and target vulnerabilities among its usage so everyone must be careful with how we keep our wallets.

it is hard to believe that. Anyhow, just to be safe, I think that we should try to use a different address every 3 months so that no one can even hack our bitcoin wallet. In my opinion, I think that he is a liar so that we do not need to care much about him

Why do I have this feeling that he is just trolling because the crypto world to me is a dynamic one and there are new entrepreneurs coming in everyday to offer one service or the other. Leaving a thread here for some days alone might categorised as been dead because it would have moved to may the third page. So I don't see reason why people will just go generate address or register on one whose owner is no where to be found not only for few days but for several years.

bitaddress.org receives about 1,300 unique visitors and 1,430 (1.10 per visitor) page views per day which should earn about $10.40/day from

advertising revenue. Estimated site value is $6,000.23. According to Alexa Traffic Rank bitaddress.org is ranked number 321,350 in the world and

0.00026% of global Internet users visit it. Site is hosted in Germany and links to network IP address 78.47.86.61.

Creation Date: 2011-09-04T04:17:42Z

So I guess it is not bitaddress.org  Shocked The source code is public, so someone should have spotted if something was fishy. This would be very

interesting to know what site it was.  Huh

So most probably this looks like bullshit. First thing first, if he had access to these many private keys then there is no reason whatsoever that he wouldn't take all the BTC run away.
I, and most of the users here seems to be in safe zone even if the guy turns out to be true, as most of us have only used bitaddress (right?) and since it's a public source code I doubt that's the website the guy is talking about.

If he is lying, it was done to discredit online wallet generators. That would drive more people to online exchanges. Just saying.

Online wallet generators seem inherently insecure, so I guess it's OK if they're discredited. Then again online exchanges aren't much better...

It's 4chan... at the end of the day it's 95% trolling and 5% legit and im being generous. I've never posted here ever, but i've checked out the so called /biz/ section and seems like all the kids are talking bitcoin and altcoins, pretty much the entire board is about that. It shows crypto is slowly getting inside all those communities and those kids are learning fast and getting ahead of the pack, even tho most will have to get scammed by random shitcoins before the learn BTC is the number one coin and the rest are gambles.

one thing that i always find stupid about these posts like the screenshot OP shared is that why are they even telling the public about it! if they were to scam and really had private keys and ability to steal the coins of those who used that website, then he wouldn't have shared it in public, he would have just emptied the wallets and then shared and laughed about it!
Did you read what the OP said? He has access to the private keys, went through half of the wallets, found around 8 bitcoins and more to go through. He is scared to steal those bitcoins and run away. He scared that he might get traced.

Anyone generated online and still has funds in them better to move them to a secured wallet, I believe this is a challenge every admin of all the exchanges and all of the web wallets are facing, being a trustee and not be tempted to steal people's money is something which not everyone is capable of.
