It isn't really any different from any other auction with bid sniping protection.  Been done before, it should have been done with the big mess that was the asicminer 50 blades auction- so many people got screwed there.

With it set to 1 hour, I think this will be over in the next 4-5 hours, I can't imagine the price going much higher.

how about just selling them for 1.4 and splitting the shares up to all the top bidders to have an even stake? otherwise this may turn out very strange

If everyone was ok with it, I would lower it to a 30 minute period.  Unfortunately there are some people who can't constantly check this, and I'd be risking being unfair to them if I changed the rule now.  One of the first AM auctions I bid on had a ~6 hour protection, so there's definitely precedent for this.

If we had a specific rule suggestion I'd consider it for the next time.  At this point I don't think I can change the rules without someone getting upset.
