This is the disadvantage of using online wallets. You better stop using online wallets because you don't know your private key and you're never safe. You could see the system turned offline in busy times.

The Bitcoin software, network, and concept is called "Bitcoin" with a capitalized "B". Bitcoin currency units are called "bitcoins" with a lowercase "b" -- this is often abbreviated BTC.

Yeah AGAIN Coinbase has been offline right for the dump. Are you know still thinking it is a pure coincidence if Coinbase suddently goes offline when the Bitcoin's price is failing.  2 times in a very short preiod of time ? and of course not just the first or second time it's happen when this exact situation regarding the price.
Right now, myself I can log in but the dashboard doesn't load. Is it a subliminal message from Coinbase telling us something about the price ?
System outage ? How fake it is ?

I keep reading how this happens "every time there is sizable price movement" or "this is common during times of higher volatility".  I have used Coinbase for over a year now and have bought/sold many many times during volatile periods but never have I had an error for more than 5-10mns.  It's been nearly 3 hours now that their website and app have been non-functional.  For the last hour I can't even half way get in to my app and see my values as I had been sort of able to the past 2 hours. I'm having a very hard time believing that in the past year and a half or so that this is "normal".  It's completely unacceptable that I am positive of.

Anyone else experiencing problems with Coinbase? They say the site is offline. I'm guessing many people are rushing to go buy BTC during the dip and crashing the server?
I think Coinbase intentionally shut it down so that people there would not be able to sell

I don't think coinbase is doing that intentionally. It would damage their business in a very silly way.

What really happened is;

a)They are either having legal(!) problems again,
b)They got hacked,
c)They are honest and they couldn't handle the orders and servers go kaputt

All of them are possible.

The mobile site claims to be operational.  Anyone trying to buy / sell with your smartphone?

Yes, exactly. i've stopped using coinbase like a year ago.(i used to keep spendable coins there!)

I have always trusted Coinbase, but this issue worries me.
You're coins are safe i guess, it's just not accessible atm. that's why one should always use a wallet where one has full control over it.^

They are probably not able to handle the pressure and they feel if the order is too much and unable to meet the needs of people coming for it, it would probably cause some fundamental issues the best is to shut down for a while and see how the market will react and let the rushing subside before opening shop for further business actions.

If you look at the past few months they are offline most of the time and when ever there is a huge pump or a dump you wont be able to log in because they will be offline during those times and you loose your opportunity to sell the coins in time, this is a problem when we are trusting online wallets, never use them for storing your assets.

There's too much interest in Bitcoin nowadays and not enough exchanges. Most of them are made to support certain number of logged clients and if that number doubles there's nothing they can do. This isn't bad for us clients, but also embarrassing for the exchange. I hope they will learn from this and invest in better servers.

This is being done intentionally, no question about it.  This is a serious trust issue.  The worst part is that this puts a black eye on the crypto space because so many newbies utilize Coinbase and most likely hold everything there.  Right or wrong, everyone starts somewhere and if the most known exchange in this space acts like a baby every time the market crashes, then it won't take long for people to run, not walk away from cryptos.

Imagine if TD Ameritrade or ETrade went down in the middle of every market crash.  How likely would you be to go back and invest more money in the market, even through another exchange?

I hope you guys know that dumps never cause an exchange to crash. If it was that easy one could write a bot that makes a buy/sell order every millisecond and just spams the shit out of those buttons to crash an exchange every time. Crashes are usually due to people setting up alarms on positions and when a crash happens they quickly try to log in all at once. This usually overloads the servers. It's similar to a ddos attack.

Or like you're saying it could be an intentional manipulation.

Yeah maybe, but servers overloading isn't supposed to be something that shall be anticipated long before such events happen ? Specially when it's not the first, second or third time this happen ? No lesson learned ? It needs to be proactive and not sit down and wait to see what problems are going to happen

I say "maybe" because really it seems to me like a noob mistake from them that I wonder if it's wanted or not. I don't  know buy servers buy datacenters lol, do something, do not let this doing again and again

Coinbase now being brought into the Cryptsy lawsuit wouldn't advice to hold any funds there until the judge makes a ruling. Best be safe than screwed.

This is hilarious...
In case you still haven't read the news...Mtgox went bankrupt years ago !!!!!!!!

As for coinbase I think it is the safest around here.
If this one goes down probably it's time to forget about all the exchanges.

You probably will want to at least setup access to your Coinbase account via their API as a backup.

It is not uncommon for their website to be down while customers will still have full functionality via API.

It's clear like water you never used MtGox a single time. Every guy having an account in, knew MtGox is gone years ago! You are 3 or 4 years late man! Even people not having an account know it, it was a drama all over the news. In case it was true you have an account if you were really facing problem to access the site, you would have searched in any search engine some news. You surely were not even trying to log in MtGox, you were looking to post something useless

Didn't know it is possible. How access account via API can be done?

EDIT: Is it this? https://developers.coinbase.com/docs/wallet/guides/send-receive
