Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak revealed he bought bitcoin when it was at at $700 during an interview with CNBC at eMerge Miami on Monday.

Wozniak didn't disclose how much he acquired, but the cryptocurrency surged above $3,000 over the weekend, meaning he gained $2,300 even if he just bought a single bitcoin.

"I remember getting interested in bitcoin some time ago," Wozniak said. "It was $70 for a bitcoin, man and I went online and you had to have a special bank account at a special bank and I couldn't buy any bitcoin so I gave up. Eventually I got some of them at the $700 stage and it went down to $350. I didn't invest, I did it so I could play with bitcoin."

Wozniak said he wanted to see what it was like to try to shop with bitcoin, at places like restaurants and hotels. "It's not that easy to do yet, but it's getting there. I was just playing around trying out how to buy and sell stuff and I didn't care I lost a ton of money, but now I'm way up," Wozniak added

Woz also touched on blockchain technology and why he thinks it's important. "I like the blockchain technology," he said. "Every single transaction is noted and saved, and that probably has a lot of good security and traceability and looking-back aspects to it ... That's probably why a lot of banks are interested in it."

Bitcoin was priced at about $700 in June of last year before losing value, and again in late October and early November before it began skyrocketing in value this year.

Good to hear that the great Steve Wozniak has really tried out bitcoin and it is interesting to hear more from technical wizards who made internet what we see today about what they think about bitcoin and its underlying technology.

Interesting. Looks like Woz has seen bitcoin as a good investment however, he wasn't able to bought when the price is $70. But I guess, it didn't bother to him to buy at $700 because he has a lot of money. I don't know if it has mentioned how many he bought. But it looks like he was enjoying the right on the price of bitcoin lately that's why we had this news.

Bitcoin has been for rich people as a toy from the 2013 until even now, imagine for someone earning $500,000 daily then putting $50,000 in bitcoin shouldn't hurt at all, but if they were smart enough to accumulate over the years they are now more rich than before, when I first heard about bitcoin I went to read the white paper and after a few days of research I knew right there what it is really and started to accumulate ever since, I don't know how this Woz guy is so much rich while he knew about bitcoin but he just forgot about it because it was hard to obtain? I don't know why God gives these kinds of people so much money

Wealthy individuals like to throw around with money on new and exciting things. If it ends up yielding them a great deal of profit after a while, it's a nice bonus for them, if it ends up worthless, it was just pocket change that they have thrown away. I am happy that I managed to buy my first coins between $20-$25 back in early 2013. I however can't say that it was a fun thing since I take every investment I make very seriously.

He didn't put much into it if we consider his wealth and he didn't earn much. Just the thought that this man would be able to put in $10m and cash out $40m is filling me with sadness and it's possible it fills him with regret
 If I had that much money, I'd be throwing thousands here and there for fun. I'd also buy pieces of land everywhere, because you never know if one day a big company won't decide to set up there or maybe they'll find oil or gas underneath.
