Hi all,

I live in South Africa and have a Barclays account that I would like to transfer money from my Barclays account into my Bitcoin account.

  • Is there a wallet in the UK that can connect to Barclays?
  • Failing that, is there a trustworthy person here (that others here can vouch for) that I can buy Bitcoin from if I pay the money into their Barclays/Paypal account?

Many thanks

You are probably going to be bombarded with scammers, first thing don't even think about using paypal for anything to do with bitcoin, you can very easily end up with nothing.

Try localbitcoins.com and pick a seller with a large amount of feedback plenty with 20,000+ trades. The site holds the bitcoins in escrow, you transfer money by bank transfer, they send you the coins.

A simple Google gave me this ---> https://www.luno.com/en/ and they have a list of banks on there. I would email their customer support and

ask them which banks they use. Why do you want to use a bank in the UK, if you can buy from a local exchange? Hope you get it figured out,

and watch out for the scammers who PM you.  Wink

Be careful dude, why don't you buy the bitcoins from legit cryptocurrency exchangers in South Africa or anywhere around the world and have the money transferred to them or better buy them with your debit or credit card associated with your Barclays Bank account?

You can buy Bitcoin with your Barclays account at Bitstamp a European bitcoin exchange. It accepts SEPA transfers and it is trustworthy. Once you buy the Bitcoins you need to transfer them in a better wallet and don't keep them in an exchange is the rule of thumb in our forum.

I will advised you to use localbitcoin to transfer your fund to your bitcoin wallet as there ar escrow for insurance for your fund. I read online yesterday how scammers are using bitcoin to scammed people of they had earned money so you have to be very careful in this game.

is this a british bank account?

there's a currency exchange section here but obviously it's only worth doing it with someone who's been established for many, many years over thousands of trades.

you've also got places like localbitcoins and bittylicious but i don't know if they get weird about foreign ip addresses.

I'm in the UK and use http://bittylicious.com/ occasionally.

I just use the bank transfer feature and haven't had any problems in the past, to buy bitcoin it takes seconds. They also support "barclays pingit" but I'm unfamiliar with it.

It's the only GBP to BTC service I've used but have no reason to look for another.

I didn't know about Barclays being BC friendly when I opened my account with them last year. A happy coincidence I guess. Good information guys, thanks for sharing it.

I don't think they are bitcoin friendly. they were experimenting with safello over charity payments but I think quite a few users have had bank accounts closed.

I have some friends there and they send me this link : https://www.moneyweb.co.za/news/companies-and-deals/barclays-shares-rise-on-report-of-africa-stake-sale/

Why would Barclays Bank want to get out of Africa?

" The British bank said in March 2016 it would sell most of its 62.3% stake in Barclays Africa Group. This latest sale should reduce its shareholding

to around 28%, with the bank aiming eventually for a stake of around 15%.
