Very, very very strange PSU problem

I have a mining rig with 4 1080 TIs, Asrock H110, Celerion and 8Gb ram.

And i have gotten a really weird problem. I started this with a EVGA 1000 GQ PSU, runs very well. I wanted to add more GPUs to i bought a Add2PSU knock off (i assume) and another PSU, EVGA 1000 G2. After carefully connection everything and starting trying to boot up my main PSU goes "click" and just shuts off. I cant get it to boot. I disconnect the Add2PSU and tries again, it boots fine.

It looks like Add2PSU is faulty, but when i plugg in the new PSU, the G2 as the main PSU it will not boot. All cables has been dubble and tripple checked. Wont work. Okay, so maybe its busted? I get another PSU from the retailer, the same make and modell. I plug it into the Add2PSU and try again. Nothing, main PSU clicks and shuts down. I change places again, so that G2 is my main. Same thing. will not boot at all.

For the third time i buy another PSU, a corsair RM 650. I remove all GPUS and only have a SSD, CPU power and the motherboard connection installed on the motherboard. I try to boot - click! Nothing happens.

How could this be possible? the only PSU that works is my very first one EVGA 1000 GQ, i have tried 3 PSUs after that one and they all refuse to boot?

Have any of you guys been dealing with this sort of problem before?

All ideas are welcome. I really grasping for straws here!

I run dual power supplies, I just got the power supply cable that allows one to turn the other on.

Try to change your Add2PSU first man.

Try to boot the system up in a state with one graphics card directly (no risers) in the primary physics x16 slot, with the monitor connected to that one card. Attempt to boot using each PSU individually.

If none of those configurations work, then I would consider the possibility that your motherboard/CPU/RAM/etc. has been damaged.

This may not be relevant, but the cables between the GQ, G2, P2, T2 power suppliers from EVGA are not always interchangeable - the pin wiring is different on some.

I had similar clicking which was down to mixing up GQ and G2 cables..  Took ages to find!

Check underside of motherboard especially if it is sitting on conductive material. I had the exact symptoms plus everything was working when assembled on table(wood) and when put into casing (aluminum) your symptoms. Finally one guy explained to me that sometimes soldering from bottom of MB can be a little longer and effectively touch the casing causing short-circuits. If that is your problem you can just put the bag in which MB was shipped under it.

Granted it is a little strange that it worked with the first PSU but maybe something shifted when you exchanged PSUs.

Agreed, avoid switching cables between different modular PSUs, even those from the same manufacturer. They might not work, or worst case, using incompatible cables can cause permanent damage to your system.

You need to add two cables to the motherboard. One is the main 24 pin one, then there is a 2nd smaller one. Refer to the motherboard manual. I had this problem too.

Agreed, you need to plug in the EPS12V connector (or at least the main 4-pin one, depending on your system).

Also note that if you haven't taken the CPU out of the box and installed it in the motherboard, you should do that. Don't forget the RAM too!
Oh, and the PSU needs to be plugged into an outlet.


(Munz does raise a valid point that we shouldn't assume much about what the OP has already checked for, but I think we can draw the line before all of these.)
