Sure it is possible, but the more % you want, the more of a gamble it all becomes. You might go check low market cap coins, and invest in them, hoping the price will rise through the roof, but most likely it won't, or even worse, it will drop to the ground with no one to sell your coins to. That is why you should be careful before investing in a coin, that has very little trading volume. But a 500% increase as you said, could be achieved, for example, a coin with market cap around 5 million (170 ish place on coinmarketcap) booms up to the first page, around 25 million market cap (~90th place).

The guys mostly answered your questions. You can do this, and it's actually one of the good strategies in the market, but you need to be very careful with your choices of coins, or your coins will be turned to shitcoins and bring you down with themselves...

Try to:

1. Diversify your portfolio. Don't buy only 1 or 2 coins, buy at least 5 of them.
2. Buy the coins that aren't so far from their bottom price. If a coin is 100x ICO price, maybe it's a little late to buy it (unless it has important developments ahead).
3. Be patient. If you insist on quick profits, experience says that you'll most probably fail.

Like already stated, diversity is important.  Some may lose while others gain much more than you lost.  Try to buy something that looks like it has a future, not because it has a low price.

It's profitable, yes, but the difficult part is that you need to know when the coin is bumped or dumped. You can't know the future so that you can surely know that you can earn profit or not

There is anther way for the difficult part. If you can get some secret information before it go to public,such as one alt-coin will hit on some big exchanges, and buy this coins immediately, then you can get a quick profit when it happens.

Oh yeah that's very much true about the altcoins. The coins are always at low prices in their initially phase and one must keep an eye on a coin which can be a complete fruit in a month or so. There is another type for such investment which works on daily basis. That means, a coin is bought at specific time by many people together leading to a pump for that day. After this pump everybody starts selling of their coins and thus a dump occurs. Such coin gets invested and sold everyday and you can have daily profits from that. This is very much doable in alsmoust everycase with altcoins, you can easily make extremly well proffit and also this coins can make you lose all your investment there are some cases with this. Still alts are best wy to make you investment double triple or more, besides this ICO can be good option but before research you can do anything.

Is it doable? Like digibyte for an example which was trading at 0.005 last month and is now trading at around 2 cents. If im not wrong that's a 5x return in less than a month. I'm looking to invest into something like that for a quick profit?

that's a basic idea of investors but you need to predict when you should buy or sell your coins because you cannot know the future, you cannot make sure that you can make profit or not
