Wow...after everything there are still people mining Slush ?!?

This is called "an inertia".
It is rather a lot of people who mine know variance effects and know that after rain comes sunshine. No need to hurry.

Moreover it seems that the sun shines on the pool of slush now!

If people truly understood how the variance works, they'd know that past rain has no bearing whatsoever on future sunshine.

while that is true it is only true with completely level equipment and software.

Best two examples   as follows

1) two guys flip a set of true coins.  They both should do 50 -50

But one guy is very good with his hands and due to his skill level can truly flip and get 55-45

That would be great software.

2) two guys flip a set of coins one is loaded to turn heads

so the guy with a loaded coin will do 53-47

This would be great servers  + great internet + ddos protection

So in our game  100% luck   may not be normal for the pool of your choice.

The pool with months of 93% luck  may be doing its best since it works with poor software or is ddos over and over.

And a pool with months of 102% luck  may be under preforming and having truly bad luck.
Since it is
coded great, has great gear ,great internet, and great ddos protection.

So how do you determine what pool to use?  Beats me I use 3 or 4 of them.

Mine at Jonny's Pool

Hardware, connectivity, software, etc all do indeed play roles in the overall performance of a pool.  For example, we all know there are some "bad actors" out there, and those actors have taken advantage via block withholding attacks (here, Eligius, BTCGuild).

However, my point wasn't to compare the possibilities of someone gaming the system to influence things, it was simply a statement that past performance has no bearing on future performance.  Previous events (i.e. I solved 5 blocks in a row under 0.5 CDF) do not influence future.  In other words, you cannot state, "We have been unlucky for the past 5 blocks, therefore, we are due for good luck."  Or, to use the euphemism of the previous poster, "yesterday's rain does not guarantee today's sunshine."

http://www.newmusicbox.org/articles/From-Computer-Models-of-Musical-Creativity/  i take it noone read this.  Cry

too each their own.. This is all about perspective.  we all know that after 10,000 blocks it will be near .5 cdf. 100 % luck whatever your flavor, using that logic one can (not with 100% certainty) predict future luck.. I say do what you want.  Again its a perspective issue.

Maybe a better way to put it is that while it is raining, that is to be expected, because it will rain from time to time. But we can also expect sunshine, because there will be sunshine from time to time. Over a long enough period of time, we are likely to see that we've had the appropriate amount of rain and sunshine.

Yes, that is exactly how you can state it.

@d57: 100% luck is 0.63 CDF.

Are there any compelling reasons that make miners stay on this pool?

Pros:

1. Transparency that goes far above and beyond any other pool that I am aware of.
2. Really nicely done GUI, tools, and statistics.
3. Democratic hashpower voting for user-submitted proposals. (Never heard of another pool doing this)
4. Years of experience and uptime coupled with a continually evolving system.
5. Backed by large amount of hashpower including some mines over 1PH.
6. Can use Google 2FA for wallet address changes (As well as perm-locking an address to an account) really nice security features.

Cons:

1. Slightly higher PPS fees.
2. Seems to attract a lot of hate, haven't figured that one out yet.

Feel free to look back over the debate spanning basically the entire life of this post, but better question:

Do you have any compelling reason why not to use this pool?

Always hashing for the community. Oh, and dollars.

Hate-bait successful!

Please refer to Pros #1: Reference https://slushpool.com/stats/hashrate_proof/

Please also refer to Cons #2:

Transparency my ass, communication zero! Dont lie to him please

More hate, based on no facts, with no references and no evidence. I still fail to understand it.

What pool anyone chooses is precisely none of your concern, anyone with EVIDENCE insisting that Slushpool is not entirely legit is still HIGHLY ENCOURAGED to come forth with it.

I'm not about to put a bounty on this information, but if anyone HAD such evidence and refused to share it, that would make them a far shittier person than any pool operator scamming their members.

ok sorry didnt knew that slush made it possible to see the hashrate proof, but again that is because of lack of communication. Not all use facebook to see his updates. If he is more acitve here maybe he will atract more PH.

genesis-mining mined with hardware that wouldn't find blocks
250BTC or more was lost by all the miners due to this
genesis-mining should have returned the BTC the pool paid them, for mining with hardware that wouldn't find blocks, and that should have been distributed to the miners

slush hid this ... I wonder why

If someone takes the time to do the math on all that information they freely share, they might see where the problem lies. Like an almost exactly 10% less payout that expected over the life of the pool...

Stop buying industrial miners, running them at home, and then complaining about the noise.
