(...)
Slush is paying more for the freshest calculations and much less for the older results.
So if the hashes are not getting to the pool before the block is found, then they will not count towards the payout. (The pool thinks you are skipping).
Late arrivals are not counted.
I agree but I also think there is a chance "late arrivals" may very well count towards the next block. I will see a low payout and the next block sometimes will make up for it as I thought the late shares get credited towards it?

Quote from Slush's Pool:-

How does bitcoin pool work?

Our server gives users blocks of very low difficulty to solve. Each solution found is registered as one 'share'. Occasionally, a solution will happen to also meet the full-strength difficulty requirements of the Bitcoin network, resulting in a successful 25 BTC minting.

This 25 BTC is divided among all of the users that contributed to that round, weighted by the number of shares that they earned. Therefore, the reward earned by a given user is given by the following formula:

(25 BTC + block fees - 2% fee) * (shares found by user's workers) / (total shares in current round)
Shares do not carry over from one round to the next. When the pool mine a block, only users who worked on that block are rewarded, and only for work they did on that block. This is an unavoidable consequence of the way that Bitcoin mining in general works.

Late arrivals go in the bin

More generally, only useful work is rewarded. That means, if you happen to make a late submission for any block, not just the one found by our pool, your share will get refused and won't count. Simply, when the network finds a solution to the current block, everyone has to start new work on a/the* new block. The new work is different from the previous one, so there's no reason for rewarding late submissions.

*)
"A" new block from the network's point of view. Any pool operator / solo miner can create its own block from any of the transactions in the transaction pool.
"The" new block from the miners' point of view. "The" new block is created by Slush (his bitcoind) and we can't influence its contents.

[edit] minor edition for more clarity

Even if you use Bitcoin through Tor, the way transactions are handled by the network makes anonymity difficult to achieve. Do not expect your transactions to be anonymous unless you really know what you're doing.

Well, if you don't mind writing ugly code <grin> then think this would be doable in a macro for calc [...] This approach would also be more or less OS independent.

LOL, I do intend to clean up the code once I start creating the stats; right now it is just pulling in the data every hour and storing it in a local DB so I can add the stats whenever I want; at least I will have access to my historical data. Smiley

Also, php/mysql should run on most (if not all) OS's, so I would argue that it's pretty OS independant; it just may take a little more time to set up. Another advantage for me by using web technology is that I can host my stats page somewhere and access it from anywhere. I could even add some fancy notifications (email, sms, whatever). I know many apps exist that do similar things (I'm currently using the Miner Status Android App), but I like to have 1 nicely integrated app! Smiley

ps. this is a loooong round... (11+ hours)

Hi everybody,

I used to mine some BTC back in 2011 on miningcz.
I tried to access to my account (n0name, same login as here) but it seems it's not working anymore.

Since the miningcz administrator might be somewhere in this topic, can he have a look and give me a feedback how i can have my account working ? (i try the online chat but i didnt get any answer)

Nobody can help me ?  Smiley

Not directly, but did ya try hanging around the online help for more than a few hours? Not been there myself but the link shows a .freenode address so it may really be an interface to IRC. People who you see logged on in any IRC channel might not even look at it for hours so try waiting around for a bit.

As an aside, I know your pain in selling the 1000 btc for $3 - let me guess, it was the drop from $29 odd down to about $2? I sold my several hundred way before that event (it's highest ever was around $2) but the end result is the same.

Weird, all rounds are confirmed, but there is still some amount in my 'Unconfirmed reward'.
It can't be current round reward as it is different amount ... bug?

EDIT: It is exactly the reward for round 21050, which should be confirmed by now.

EDIT2: And it got confirmed on the next block, so it seems the block is shown as confirmed on it's 100 confirmation, but the reward is confirmed after 101 ... minor bug and without such a long round, would never be noticed.

Off topic for this forum but wow. Why the sudden drop in price, Bitcoin?

It was due to two factor, this morning a lot of people woke up with a "unresistible" price to sell, but mainly>

Thanks for the links. But ya gotta love the language they use "Bitcoin plunged more than 20 percent to below $1,000 " Oh gee wizz so it's back to where it was like last week! I want it back below $200 personally and all the day traders and speculators be damned. Those that want constantly higher prices in terms of fiat miss the entire btc philosophy.

That's not necessarily a bad thing. Don't forget it was the lamestream media that started publicising the whole thing that got it to go exponential. I think TPTB aim was to build it up and crush it (They've tried before and failed) Ie since when has Greenspan cared about any backing? the $US being backed by more than a printing press! Great backing there after Nixon totally got rid of the Gold standard. Both he and Bernanke have said Gold have no intrinsic value but fast forward a few years (to the interview he rocked up to looking like a corpse to recently) and all of a sudden it does? He said IT and later real estate was not in a bubble right before they collapsed yet all of a sudden the ol coot can predict a bubble?

Sorry for the rambling but tldr I agree with you that they wanted to build it up to smash it but will fail as they have done in the past. The difference is this time they pulled out all the stops

Just a guess but during normal rounds the system is processing lots of things at once (people getting payouts as rounds confirmed etc) but since everyones balance was already confirmed by the end of the last round it probably had a lot of free time on its hands Smiley
