Question about RAM on video cards

I am wondering how the RAM type on a card affects hash rates?

I have been pricing some cards and there are some with the same processor but different memory types, one being DDR3 and the other being GDDR5. I'm guessing this comes into play for gaming or rendering but does it affect hashing for mining?

Memory doesn't play a role in hashing, since textures aren't needed to be cached anywhere. I'm wondering what cards you're looking at though, since DDR3 seem old for good hashing cards.

I came across a 6750 with DDR3 while trying to see if there are any reasonable cards below the $100 mark.

In the charts it seems to have a semi-respectable hash rate but the bang for the buck is not good with the GDDR5 version.

Probably not going to find many efficient cards at that price. 5830's are one of the best for around that price, if you can find them. Newegg gets shipments of them every once in a while, and they're ~$110 and put out ~250mh/s.

I know 5830 offers the best hashing for the dollar, but they are very scarce right now and this was just to see if there were any cards that were decent in the sub $100 range to fill the empty slots on my board.

According to the chart the 6750 will do 140ish MH/s so if it were $50 then it may be worthwhile. The GDDR one was over $100 but the DDR3 was only $75.
