If the peers of a student is a good influence like they invite you to go in the library and study instead of going to computer shops. It's true that peers ang among the many varying factors that directly affect a person's behavior. But, a person's behavior is their choice no matter the influence maybe. Now in a school setting, I've seen a student that excels but their peers aren't great and a student that didn't do well but has exceptional peers. My take away is no matter the factor, a student or a person will excel at something so long as they want to do it or there is passion in the activity
