Seems the likelihood of this news to be true is quite small, considering the source. Still, would have been nice if only microtransactions are still a thing. The King accepts the King of Crypto. That would have been a cool headline and would have gone far familiarizing people with bitcoin.

Considering how fierce is the competition between Burger King and McDonald's in my area, I would say that BK will gain a lot of new users if they accept crypto-payments. The total number of cypto-users in the world has crossed the 10 million mark, and this is no longer an insignificant amount.

This is assuming bitcoin gets through the problem with transaction time and high fees. Maybe they can also start accepting other cryptos?

That's how businesses go anyway, you need to expand your market. It'll take some guts for a chain to be the first to accept bitcoin and other alts but if it does make a difference in their earnings and other chains see it, then they'd jump the bandwagon.

Fastfood would be one of the best places to start using bitcoins since almost everyone eat there every now and then. We want bitcoin to be more visible.

Confirmation time is not a problem, if they use a payment processor such as BitPay. But the fees is a big problem. Where I live, VISA is charging a fees of 1.8%, with a minimum of just around $0.03. The minimum fee for using BTC is around BTC0.0015, which comes to around $3.60. This is almost 120 times higher than the fees charged by VISA.

It won't work in reality as everything needs to be  done in 90 sec.

If that. Remember though, Ed Snowden still lives in Moscow and he is technically savvy and he has worked well within a team environment before. Maybe he's helping the cause move faster over there.

Russian Burger King restaurants are due to start accepting Bitcoin as a payment method this summer, reports state on Wednesday.

According to local news resources, a Moscow branch of the burger chain has started piloting Bitcoin payments, with officials now confirming a nationwide rollout.

Uznay Vse states the unnamed branch accepted a Bitcoin transaction on Tuesday this week, which represents “the first official reports of Bitcoin payments for goods and services in Russia.”

Burger King has also begun the hunt for an IT professional able to implement the relevant software.

“Several programs need to be written which will allow restaurant tills to speak to the Android and iOS apps and allow customers to pay with cryptocurrency,” Uznay Vse continues.

Russia is becoming an increasingly pro-crypto environment this year, with Finance Ministry deputy Alexey Moiseev saying this week that such currencies may be legally traded on exchanges if subject to “appropriate regulations.”

I think the other had the good point but we will see what will be the changes after end of this month.
But i think there are still some alternative ways like here in my country that we can use the wallet which is we can pay instantly.
If they can make a local bitcoin wallet the same as in my country they can also deal instantly and without a fee for transaction.
If you know the company coins.ph here in my country i am using their wallet in paying bills or someone who use the same bitcoin wallet without any delay in transaction.. So business like burger and accepting small transaction will not be a problem because its already been tested here n my country.
But if you are use a wallet not a local wallet like electrum blockchain or any wallet not allow to send no fee and instant to the same company wallet not a good to pay like in burger business. I heard that coinbase can be use the same wallet as here in my country. Coinbase to coinbase will be instant and without a fee but never tested yet because coinbase is always unavailable i was transfer all my funds to electrum.. but i heard they are the same as in our local wallet..

Just checked with a Russian friend yesterday, and he told me that the Burger King employees in Vernadskogo Avenue have no idea about Bitcoins or the news that BK is going to accept BTC. As usual, it looks like the Coin Telegraph is churning out fake news in order to increase the readership.

As usual, more fake news from the Coin Telegraph. 99.99% of the articles being published in that website are fake. It will be great if Burger King accepts Bitcoin. But it is not going to happen in the near future, especially in Russia.

At first I really thought the news was true until I read your comment and got curious as it is indeed controversial. It may well be indeed fake news.

It may have been good news after all if it was true because it means another company, this time, a large worldwide food chain is accepting bitcoin as payments. But I also find it difficult to imagine spending bitcoin for a piece of burger. That might not be actually worth it. I have always thought that simple day to day transactions are good for fiat money. One does not have to wait for any confirmation and no transaction fees either.

It is a good new for sure.
But tbh i dont like the idea to spend my bitcoins to buy coffee or snacks. They are my investments. I can not say my grandchildren that i drank mocha and ate biscuits for a few mBTCs, when bitcoin price reaches to 100k usd  Grin

If Burger King actually accepts Bitcoin (or any other crypto-coin), it is really great news for us. But as far as I know, right now they don't have any intention in doing that. Also, Russia is a country where the usage of Bitcoin for making payments is discouraged by the authorities. Bitcoin users face a lot of harassment there.

That it is a fake was clear from the outset. This not only contravenes Russian legislation, but also how it can be implemented. First you will have to wait a few hours of payment confirmation and even payment transactions will be worth more than the cost of the Burger.

If a payment processor such as Coinbase is used, then these problems can be solved. There will be a very small fee, and the issue with confirmations also will not be there. But in that case, we will have to say that BK accepts Coinbase payments, and not Bitcoin payments.

I saw this link http://www.uznayvse.ru/news/85865.html on the blog shared by OP - a Russian site, blog entitled "Burger King "will start taking bitcoins in 2017" (I translated it from Russian to English using goohle translate). If it's true, It won't be much of a hassle if they will be using QR code and I think the problem will be the fees and not the confirmation since bitcoin transaction is irreversible. However, if I'm the customer I'd still rather use cash than BTC.  Grin

Robots are coming to a burger joint near you

Miso Robotics, the inventor of Flippy, has raised $3.1 million in Series A venture funding.

Patent services firm Acacia Research, CaliBurger and Match Robotics VC are investors.

Grilling burgers may be fun on the Fourth of July, but less so if hot grease is your daily grind.

Enter Miso Robotics. The southern California start-up has built a robotic "kitchen assistant" called Flippy to do the hot, greasy and repetitive work of a fry cook. Flippy employs machine learning and computer vision to identify patties on a grill, track them as they cook, flip and then place them on a bun when they're done.

Miso is part of a budding kitchen automation industry. Its peers include Zume Pizza, Cafe X, Makr Shakr, Frobot and Sally, which are developing robots to help commercial kitchens churn out pizzas, lattes, cocktails, frozen yogurt, and salads.

If they accept payments from Coinbase rather than directly accepting BTC payments, then none of these problems will exist. The fee will be low and there will be instant confirmation. And most importantly, getting refunds may also get easier. Since the fee charged by Coinbase (i.e the one payable by Burger King) is higher than the one charged by Visa/Master, they may even give discounts on BTC payments.

Are they going to mandate all their branches around the world to start accepting bitcoin or they would stay in russia for now? Tho i am excited for this because i am a burger king fan i am kinda afraid to pay more in fees than the burger that i've paid

Just checked with a Russian friend yesterday, and he told me that the Burger King employees in Vernadskogo Avenue have no idea about Bitcoins or the news that BK is going to accept BTC. As usual, it looks like the Coin Telegraph is churning out fake news in order to increase the readership.

As much as Coin Telegraph wants to increase traffic on their site, they should also think about the credibility of their articles. More and more people will continue taking their 'news' less seriously if this trend continues.

I don't this would be a good idea yet. There would be things to consider especially for a bug business like bk when accepting btc as payment. Btc price varies and fluctuates so that means that the prices of the products would sway with btc price. Then there's the transaction time where it's not always that fast. So i don't really think its plausible at the momemt
