Quick preface- this cryptocurrency heavily references the game Dwarf Fortress (It's a free rouge-like if you want to try it) so expect confusing references.

Let's get the technicals out of the way:

Name- Dorfcoin
Symbol- DORF
Algorithm- Scrypt (POW)
Block Target- 2.5 minutes
Total Coins- 84 million
Mining Reward- 20 coins per block (Halving at 210000 Blocks)
Retarget Difficulty- 2016 Blocks
Infrastructure- Lite version of Bitcoin
Premine- 5% (To cover server fees, bounties, and unforeseen expenses)

Windows Wallet- http://www.mediafire.com/file/30vk1gkknyepkz5/dorfcoin-qt-windows.zip
Linux Wallet- http://www.mediafire.com/file/dhgd1qz2hioasac/dorfcoin-qt-linux.tar.gz

Subreddit (Best place to ask questions)- https://www.reddit.com/r/dorfcoin/

F.A.Q.

Who are we and why are we doing this?

We are a duo (I'm Andrew, Community Manager and she is Priya, Programmer) and I friggen love DF (She doesn't play anything other than Minecraft and Stardew Valley). Since Priya is having trouble finding work in programming and I'm doing nothing but playing DF and trading Crypto, I came up with the idea of mixing all these things together. And so, Dorfcoin was made!

Our plan. Like any good fortress, we set out a basic blueprint of where to take this cryptocurrency.

1. Build wallet and pool miner for Linux- Completed!
2. Create wallet for Windows- Completed!
3. Create a pool miner for Windows
4. Create a wallet and miner for Android
5. Have our coin listed on a Trade Depot (Exchange)
6. Offer real products in exchange for Dorfcoin (Silver and Copper Ingots to start)
7. Officially support a GPU miner for Linux/Windows/Mac- Windows Completed!
8. Create a wallet and miner for iOS
9. Create a casino minigame for Dorfcoin (on Windows, Linux, Android, and iOS)
10. Rebuild wallet with built in CPU and GPU Solo/Pool mining with user friendliness in mind for Linux, Windows, and Mac

How can I make money off this?

By mining! No longer must you send Dorf miners to certain death to accumulate wealth. Simply download a Linux or Windows Wallet

For solo CPU Mining-

In your wallet, go to Help -> Debug Window -> Console and type in setgenerate true -(# of threads you want your processor to use). It should look like this, without the quotations; "setgenerate true -3" for 3 threads. Give it about 30 minutes to sync with our network and you'll begin mining!

For solo GPU Mining-

Download this package- http://jmp.sh/f5gECnq and follow the readme.

You may want to encrypt your wallet for safety, but be sure to write down the password should you do so- WE HAVE NO WAY OF RECOVERING YOUR PASSWORD IF YOU LOSE IT. There have been horror stories of bitcoin millionaires who can't access their fortune because they lost their wallet's password. You don't want to become one of these people.

What makes us different?

We want to make cryptocurrency more accessible. And not just by adoption, but in mining as well. This is why we will make an app to mine Dorfcoin, though it cannot compete with a dedicated rig, pool mining with your phone will get people directly involved with Dorfcoin.

What are your thoughts on elves?

They're wusses. What do you mean they won't trade with me anymore? That wooden sculpture came from dead wood off my starting wagon- I didn't even murder any trees! (Yet).

No bounties yet- our dedicated programmer is able to handle most of our goals right now. But if that changes, we'll give you a shout!

Why offering products such as Ag and Cu ingots? Do you have something to do with this industry?
Or just for the sake of adding that to your plans but will not happen in reality?

London, Canada.
No, but I have previous connections to suppliers, so it'd be easy to supply it once Dorfcoin gets a value.

Can you tell me what steps you took?

The blockchain is much larger now. It takes approx 30 min to an hour to sync at this time.

New Bounty!

We never added a block explorer to our timetable- a mistake on my part as I assumed wallets could do this (They do download the entire chain after all). Therefore, rather than mess with our current schedule, I'm setting up a bounty of 5000 DORF for the first person who can get a stable public block explorer running and send me the configuration.

You can use Abe, an open source block explorer here- https://github.com/bitcoin-abe/bitcoin-abe/tree/v0.7.2

Here is Dorfcoin's source code (It's for Linux)- http://www.mediafire.com/file/gf6bmpshpq3c9dt/dorfcoin-source.tar.gz

Good luck!

No, I actually have the wallet syncing for the past 2.5 hrs but still I don't see any progress. I am stuck at 4Hrs behind from the start.

cgminer/sgminer/cudaminer

really though with scrypt you want to be using ASIC miners not gpu's so i'd imagine anyone mining this with gpu wont get alot

Too much alternative cryptocurrencies are launched nowadays and most of them are clones of other existing cryptos without useful solutions for computing. Therefore, they are forgotten very soon.

There are 15 other miners currently so the blockchain is growing much faster- it took me about 2 hours to sync with my hardware this morning.

Yes it's been 3 hours now and I still haven't synced myself. People are mining so quickly as the difficulty is so low, that it's taking a long time to catch up. Surprisingly, the server is handling it well.

Sync is bugged, I think. Stops at "Processed 277 blocks", 16H ago. Restarted and now it's "Processed 277 blocks", 17H ago.
I did start mining, but how am I supposed to know if I receive any coins? I'm CPU mining.

The issue may be with block 277 itself- we're still looking into it. The wallet lets you know when you've successfully mined a block.

Yes I find that very odd as well. We're going to open another node in hopes that'll speed things up. Confirmation will come in the next 8 blocks.

Cool using the binary, just waiting on sync 4 connections but currently stuck at block 277 15 hours ago, i'll leave it for a bit after a restart

I'm seeing the same thing. We may have a bug here; has anyone been able to mine in the past 8 hours?

I'll point a couple of mh at it and see what happens

took almost 12 hours but finally hit a block, no confirms yet though  Sad not looking good

Which CPU are you mining with as of now?

None- I'm currently out of sync. I usually mine with a core of i5-6600k when I do, however. Keep in mind we support GPU mining now, which is more effective than CPU mining.

Hit another block while at work I've either forked or am the only person to find any in last 24 hours

using a few old asic miners (2*gridseed orb & 4*zeus blizzards)

Did you hit block 278 or 279? You didn't fork as it's part of the node.

Yes, it might have something to do with the server. We're planning to create another node to speed things up.

Nothing wrong with asking questions Smiley It's like a public server wallet, that everyone connects to. Right now there's only one, and everyone is trying to sync and mine from that one node. It can be created by making your synced wallet a public server so that others can sync and mine from it as well.

linux version crashes after a while, attempting to restart wallet fails due to wallet being open yet wallet process has been terminated.

We're having troubles with github- can't figure out the interface. Here's the source code from another source, however- http://www.mediafire.com/file/gf6bmpshpq3c9dt/dorfcoin-source.tar.gz

We'll look into that right now.

I've been having issues with the wallet myself. There might be a bug with the blockchain- we'll have a look.

I've talked to my partner and it seems the difficulty is due to a few miners with powerful GPUs suddenly stopped mining, so their difficultly has remained high. The options are to either mine with a weaker GPU so the difficultly can come back down, or start a mining pool. We're looking into the second option now.

Well, we cannot mine with gpu when wallet is out of sync, it's possible to build solo pool, but I'm too stupid for that. Second option should be best.

Time for a pool- Dorfcoin has gotten a bit difficult to mine, so we need a pool going. Anyone interested in setting one up? We will reimburse you $10 USD monthly via paypal for your services! Keep in mind it must stay up nearly 24/7 with minimal downage time.

Yes it seems that our server expired. Unfortunately they raised their price to $45 a month. We hired a service to host a blockchain explorer for us which was supposed to be up on Friday, but it still doesn't seem to be up. That was supposed to replace the current node we use :/

In the next few days. Pool mining still works, but it won't be authenticated till the node is back up.

It's because the node was down. It's back up now. Additionally, the block explorer should be up and running by the end of today.

No just unbalanced. A larger pool of miners would correct the issue. We have a plan for that once our coin gets listed Smiley

You'd better hire a scrypt mining rig to get it stable. 13 days to find a block. the coin is dead already.

The difficulty will rebalance soon enough. We already have a plan set to that end. No coin dies until the devs give up, and we've put to much time and money into this project to simply give up.

hey dev, gz on your website and further development. What is your solution for current hashrate fix?

Our plan is twofold- we recently sent coin listing requests to a few exchanges. When Dorfcoin gets accepted, this should help bring in a large influx of miners which will allow more consistent mining. Additionally, I plan to get ahold of an rx 480 card myself to assist with the pool mining. (I've been meaning to get one anyways so I can finally try out the witcher 3 and metal gear solid 5)

Hi mayAbbott. Our coin isn't listed on an exchange just yet, but you can acquire dorfcoin via mining. As for our technology, it isn't as powerful as some cryptos just yet, however what sets us apart is our direction and plan for making our currency more accessible than others.

How are you going to change hashrate? Waiting for lower hashrate, then I'll start mining again. What's the progress of exchanges? I want buy more.
And btw dev, what do you think about PoS? Maybe you should go for PoS system which doesn't require mining hardware? Maybe more people would be interested in buying and staking this coin.

I ordered an RX 580- I'll be mining myself and artificially lowering my hashrate until the difficultly becomes something more manageable. Great question- I'm yet to hear back from them myself. You're welcome to request Dorfcoin on any exchanges you'd like; I'd support you fully.

The problem I have with proof-of-stake is that it encourages centralization and discourages usage by design. This is because it is much more deflationary than even PoW crypto.

Dorfcoin doesn't have much attention because we haven't done any marketing since it's introduction to the public- We've done this on purpose. I want the hashrate sorted out and Dorfcoin on any exchange first so that we can get the ball rolling without disappointing anyone with setbacks.

I understand your concern. However, we did not start off with an ICO so we're not managing Dorfcoin full-time; we're doing all this on our free time outside of our full-time jobs. Although we will continue to meet our goals, they will not be accomplished at the same speed as other projects, unfortunately. I will provide the IP address for the pool and new node once I get them going.

New node up- 185.101.98.125

We'll be converting it to a pool in the near future.
Pool will be yours or you will put on miningthru-like pool?

I originally wanted to use a third-party pool but as we've seen, they're proving to be unreliable. As a result, we're forced to use our own resources to create our own pool.

Probably sometime during the weekend. Unfortunately, it might take longer than expected to fix the hashrate problem as I was lucky enough to get a defective RX 580 card; I just sent it back this morning.

That's what I'm worried about- for the month or so the pool was up after the difficulty raise, the hashrate didn't get fixed. We have been thinking of hiring a mining platform to fix the difficultly for us first.
